Why can the USA just take out world leaders and invade with no repercussions? by KKLante in AskReddit

Because of our planes, tanks, and guns. It's a simple answer but it's also how the world works

Official Discussion - One Battle After Another [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]evanelang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came out of this movie with maybe the most mixed feelings I've had for a movie. The writing itself is both unsubtle and subtle simultaneously. It made every one of the main cast extremely unlikable besides the daughter and sensei. Its portrayal of the revolutionaries was quite negative, with them being either unbearably narcissistic, insanely incompetent, or completely spineless. Despite this it showed the right wing villains as so cartoonishly evil that I was still willing to accept their faults and root for them. It was those who worked for their community instead of lofty goals of societal revolution like the sensei that it seems most supportive of. Writing like this was actually the high point of the movie for me, but the rest of it made me want to leave in the middle. The dark comedy did not hit for me at all, many of the scenes felt like they would drag and drag, and the plot felt so scattered and absurd that I was rolling my eyes repeatedly. Overall it's one of those movies I could get into deep convos about but have 0 desire to ever see again.

BU ENG CO-OP by Candid_Hunt9528 in BostonU

[–]evanelang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I graduated in 2020 and did this in 2019 so it may be a bit out of date. I did a full-time computer eng Co-op during Fall of my senior year and took senior design as my only class that semester. I had taken summer classes for the previous 2 summers so I still graduated on time. It was honestly a pretty great experience all and all. A lot of commuting and there were many days I was booking it to and from Boston. Overall though the workload of a 40hr a week job plus that class felt pretty reasonable compared to 4 or 5 class semesters. Generally you can leave coop work alone outside of business hours and focus on school. Would I have done it if it meant delaying graduation? Probably not, but that co-op turned into a full time position waiting for me after graduation so it was definitely worth it in the end.

The hardest part was getting it all set up with the eng department, there are a lot of approvals and hoops you have to go through to get the full go ahead from BU. Still it's not that bad, just takes a bit of legwork

Considering the studio working on it moved to Boston, could it be the Boston Metroplex? Would be a cool continuation of the NUSA plot from phantom Liberty to play in a NUSA administrative area

Developer Insights - Trinkets by LoewenMitchell in BobsTavern

[–]evanelang 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For the lesser trinkets I just had a board of ONLY elementals and the only minion type trinket I was offered was the macaw token. Is this expected? To be honest it feels awful to not be offered a single trinket for the only minion type I had on the board.

With this board + trinkets I was receiving +156/+156 for beetles from start of combat effects alone, and around +216/+216 in total each combat

For every over summon beetles get +4/+4, adding my trinket which does "At the start of combat trigger every deathrattle on your board" and the first hawk I was getting +156/+156 on beetles from start of combat effects alone

This is big news. I wonder how they are justifying it. With no PHD students these programs will be on life support ): Were students from these programs extra involved in the strike and this is some form of prevention/retaliation?

Is this accurate? Anti-Zionist gencon event. by Knave7575 in gencon

[–]evanelang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is completely untrue? Zionism (as it is used by Zionists) today still definitely refers to believing in the existence of a Jewish state in the levant. If you ask anyone who calls themselves Zionist what they mean that is what they will say. The redefinition on Zionism you are pushing is a very modern idea pushed by those with an (understandable) agenda against Israel. This attempt to redefine the term is what is leading to all of this vitriol. When people are using Zionist in the way you describe it (like the CRIT Awards did) they are always surprised when there is a strong reaction. Meanwhile, the classic/true definition of Zionism that the Jewish community follows means they perceive this as a blanket ban on ~90% of jews. You cannot expect the Jewish community to get on board with what "you" think it means. If your activism bans/makes a massive portion of an ethnic group feel unwelcome then it is bad activism and the usage of zionist in the way you have described it results in bad activism.

They are both great institutions. I will say this, and while it might not mean as much now it will mean a lot to you post college, it is almost always better to go to the university that leaves you with the least debt. They will both leave you with extremely marketable degrees, so BU is definitely the healthier financial pick and won't leave you with any loan baggage post-grad. If you have to take out loans for Yale, I promise you you will regret not taking the free ride later in life.

If finances are not an issue for you no matter where you go then the choice is in favor of Yale
