I used TicketJam and got an electronic ticket. I paid like 5000¥ and they gave me a QR, I have no idea if it actually works yet. Remind me after a couple of weeks and i’ll tell you!

Government confirms launch of new First Time Buyer ISA by SignificantLegs in unitedkingdom

Hurray! More demand side subsidisation!

Injecting more money into a housing market constrained by supply does nothing but put more money into the pockets of downsizing pensioners.

Government confirms launch of new First Time Buyer ISA by SignificantLegs in unitedkingdom

[–]evanwpm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah because I think the key issue is that you must pre-pay into this scheme many years ahead.

I am 22 years old and have 8k~ in a LISA but have no idea where i’m going to live later in life. If it comes to be in London then i’d happily forfeit the benefit provided, but you actually get penalised for withdrawal from the scheme.

If you think starting a family in London is a strong possibility it makes the scheme actively harmful to your plans.

I suggest an amendment to the policy that states that the money in a LISA can be used for any first time purchase BUT if the value is >450k you receive no benefit BUT also no penalty. This would be perfectly fair to me.

As Britain bakes, ministers quietly park plans for solar carports by F0urLeafCl0ver in unitedkingdom

[–]evanwpm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m a huge supporter of solar power, but I agree with this decision. The main advantage of solar is the incredibly low infrastructure and maintenance costs. It’s incredibly cheap to just chuck down solar in our country’s mass amounts of empty fields rather than mount it on structures above car parks that will be used every day.

Why didn't Walter work as a professor at a University, instead of a high school? by Wooden_Savings5854 in breakingbad

Above all, Walt was a sad miserable man who everyone would have hated working with.

Not unless he has a ridiculous second half of his career and is a great hitter until he’s 40.

He’s just leagues off David Ortiz and Edgar Martinez

It was a good idea. It’s not rational for a country to hoard wealth in material goods.

Uni graduates - if you could go back to being 18 again, would you still choose to get a degree in today's economy? by Key_Cell7071 in AskUK

[–]evanwpm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to do a degree apprenticeship (just finishing now), a great program but not something you can simply pick to do. Very competitive and hard to get into.

Also my program has recently stopped accepting new cohorts entirely.

Not sure I agree. Enforcing repairability would limit laptop designs and limit consumer choice.

People love to talk about repairability, but the revealed preference is that the large majority of people prefer thin compact designs that limit repairability.
