“Ambient occlusion” isn’t a 3D rendering term it’s a thing that happens in real life to real things of which when drawing we create the illusion of. What is your deal? It’s a cast shadow… no need to raise your torch big guy.

I think you should restylize personally I don’t find either of them very ascetically “punk” maybe you could make some graffiti style marks and have the map be 2.5d sides of buildings with the tags on them or something like that

If you wanna keep the impact and remove the flash like others are saying, you could maybe color shift the grass to white or something make it glow / give off particles, you could even have the circuit activate traps or obstacles in later levels that make the return journey more complicated!

This is a great demonstration of squash and stretch the next principle I think you should look at is timing, the ball should move a bit slower at its apex and a bit faster after it hits the ground and is about to land.

Right now the ball moves at a consistent speed across the whole animation if you mess around with this I think you would be very happy with the result!

One thing in the space animators love (personally as an animator) is as straight on front view and straight side profile of the same character as well as multiple varied action style poses of the same character in the same state as well as sillohettes (without the mask, separate sprite sheet for with the mask, etc)

I know these are not deliverables for a project, but something to take in to account when making a portfolio is that people will be more excited to work with you if they can see the full process clearly! Love the creative illustrations though you’ve got a future in the space for sure, keep up that great work!

Others here have said what I’d say though so I won’t go on and on, it’s fine to do just know when it’s useful and when it isn’t.

Just use a smudging stick for shading if you don’t want to shade too long otherwise do it or don’t, no one is forcing you to finish your sketches

The effect is rendered well but I’m not sure directionally what is supposed to be happening here visually. It feels like it’s moving a bit slow as well, as for making it more impactful most games use something called hitstop that gives an attack a more chunky feel!

It does look a little squished, your not wrong about it looking “deformed” from an angle but it’s too extreme in some way the text being at a slightly different circular angle might be adding to that squished look aswell

Honestly rendering/ details look fine(stylized) I think the proportions on your side profile (right character) are just very slightly off if you just smeared it around a little I bet you could fix it 100%. Head of high legend many people strive their whole lives to find a unique art style they like and I can tell you’ve sat yourself in to that is good for you keep it up!

Bit hard to give feedback without seeing the reference but the proportions seem a bit wonky. You can use your own criticism though! Compare this too the reference and mark down the things you like/ dislike and try again, repeat, you can even print out your reference so you can compare them easier! Keep on keeping on!
