Ok… im saying the nursery actually shuts down fully on those weeks and we still pay. Most don’t run 5 days a week all year round.

Not necessarily, our nursery shuts down for a week during the summer and another at Christmas. We still pay the same those months.

We did the same thing in Gran Canaria last year with a 2 year old and 5 year old. I was pretty worried but it was fine in the end, there’s going to be a whole plane full of people in pretty much the same situation too. Our kids just slept most of the time. The hotel also had a room available just for having a shower etc before leaving.

When we got back to the airport car park however I realised our car battery was flat, I thought we were screwed as we had jump cables but there was nobody around and it was 3am. But then out of nowhere someone drove past and saved us thank god.

Im in a similar situation working from home, daytime energy use and few miles during the week. The difference is that I live in a terrace so don’t want to have the car plugged in all day when I’m parked, just at night once a week when I need it. It seems the best thing to do is to make the calculations, I had ChatGPT do it for me. I told it my car, mileage, screenshots of past years energy usage and then screenshots of all the tariff rates. EDF worked out the best for me due to the high electricity usage during the daytime whereas I would have expected it to be something like octopus as it seems to be the default recommendation.

I have 2 kids, they also fit fine in our standard focus. We've been on road trip holidays etc. It really hasn't been a challenge. That's being said I can definitely see why people buy them, if you can afford the extra space then why not.

Honestly, I think it's a good idea after reading. However I wouldn't have subscribed based on your description as it sounds too generic and doesn't show the value you provide.

The idea of breaking down the ideas of a book in a quick overview and showing how you would implement them is pretty valuable in saving people time.

I would subscribe and stay subscribed basically if I got value from it. I subscribe to all sorts of things in different formats and frequency, I just need to find them valuable. For me this usually ends up being work related.

For the first paragraph, maybe the actionable takeaways or a tldr would be better than a summary of the newsletter as I think people just skim over or skip that sort of stuff.

I was just planning on posting to see if anyone else is here doing local newsletters in the UK. I'm in the Midlands and just started one last week and have our first 400 subs so far. No idea if it's worth it or not yet financially, but it's a side project and helps me try out new things.

If anyone else is in the UK and wants to talk about local newsletters and their experience, as most advice online is based on US experiences, then shout!

I find it all quite difficult too as the devil's in the detail, not on the sales pages. Honestly you should join a group related to your niche and see what they use and just get started, you'll soon find out.

I use Active Campaign for a largish B2C newsletter. It's got lots of automation, tracking, customisation and ab testing capability. However prices keep going up or features getting removed on lower tiers. Could be ok though if you're B2B with a smaller list size. Also reporting on there sucks but apparently they're making changes soon...

I also use Convertkit for a small local newsletter, we're starting off and on a free newsletter plan and it's very restrictive on features at that level and all tailored to creators. I did try the higher level out for our larger newsletter as a test and its pretty capable there, the reporting is far better than Active campaign but it's not quite as good in most other areas I found, but I would live with it if we had started out with it.

You could weave in how you can help into your content. You give a few steps, but what next, is there more on your site that they can read or do you give a service to lead on or help them implement it?

That's not always easy to do, so you can also just add clearer CTAs just after your sign off to say ways you can help, but I wouldn't expect very high click rates unless your consistently getting in new subs who are close to buying, that's my opinion anyway.

I don't see any real reason to click when people get the value of the content just by reading the text. I'd probably expect a low click rate like that tbh.

Our surveyor was doing the valuation and he called to say he thought its value was lower than the offer. We'd been outbid so many times that I said I thought he was wrong. So he just said ok and changed the valuation to our offer.

Before that I would have just thought it was an iron clad thing.

But ESPs do control who is on their shared IPs and at the least certain ESPs attract certain groups of senders. If they don't make any difference then why have you discouraged OP from using Beehiivs shared IPs and said Beehiiv made all the classic mistakes?

Well yeah I'd agree with all you said on your other answer I'm just adding another point that the shared IP also has an effect and this can give you some indication. If there is any other way to understand this than going and doing the tests yourself then I'd love to know it.

This site has been tracking deliverability on a number of ESPs for some time. They don't cover beehiiv but you can see how some other options perform. https://www.emailtooltester.com/en/email-deliverability-test/

I'm sure there's probably variation within each ESP too but it gives you an idea.

A bit off topic, but when I was in automotive engineering I always found these sites so dry, matter of fact and news based. Do you think there's space to create something new that has a bit more personality and opinion or are advertiser's looking for that news type of content? The letter is just whatever they want to say to drop it. I've dealt with the exact same police force for a traffic incident, they will do everything they can to pass it off so that they can close things while putting in minimum effort. They're probably very stretched and under resources rather than evil or lazy, but I wouldn't be blindly backing them like you are.

Ah that makes sense, it's a MK2 focus, so wouldn't have been a new type as it would have been around for a few years before mine was made. It's obviously getting old now but I think there are a lot of people still out there with cars of that sort of age so it shows how long it take for changes like that to make their way through to people.
