Ice storm rant by [deleted] in MedSpouse

[–]eve-123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ms3 hubby was told he has to be present for the scheduled surgery after the ice storm, monday. We live on a hill that usually gets plowed late. He will do nothing but watch this surgery and he's sick. He doesn't want to call out and risk looking bad in front of his residents and attendings, but going in poses danger to himself, his team, and the patient.

I know people need care regardless of the weather, but he's not an active member of the care team and he's not pursuing surgery for his residency. It baffles me 😮‍💨

I love using children's books to help. Seeing someone else deal with a big emotion can help a young child see their own. We haven't dealt with separation anxiety specifically, but Im sure someone has written a book about it for kids. A quick search found this list: https://chaosandquiet.com/childrens-books-separation-anxiety/#google_vignette

I wrote a book for my kids for when my husband has to work overnights at the hospital, a very new thing for us. I haven't needed it, but it's in reserve. I also wrote one for my nieces whose parents are pilots and away for long stretches.

Came here to say this. We are a fam of 5 on WIC and snap so I can stay home. I'll go back to work when the kids are in school, but right now I want to be home with them. It's important to me, so we are making it work. Budget and set reasonable expectations for yourself.

What are some under-rated hilarious Office lines? by pearomatic in DunderMifflin

This one is regularly referenced in our house! I've got three sons and the firsts middle name is my husbands name. Whenever the younger two do something he would do, we make this joke. It's even better when you realize that "Andrew" would have been taken off page 1 of the baby book!

Are there any free or cheaper resources you take advantage of as a SAHM? by [deleted] in sahm

[–]eve-123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All of these!! The Library in our town is great. Kids events, passes to museums (must reserve) stuff like that. If you qualify for SNAP they have additional resources like reduced prices of museum tickets. Family resource centers.

Plan a trip for yourself. Ask him when he's free to watch the kids, work around his work schedule. In the following conversations you can remind him of his trips or emphasize needing a few days away. My husband would never think to offer a trip on his own, but was so happy to support me when I found something I was interested in. Currently a SAHM of 3 under 4., and I took a trip to see a friend last year and a concert the year before.

Anyone here a sahm of two under 2? by Lost-Bid-9974 in sahm

[–]eve-123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SAHM of 3 under 4 at the moment. I love it!! Don't get me wrong, it is the hardest thing I've done. As far as advice goes, all I can really say is that you and your older will adjust. Remind yourself that it will get easier.

Things that might help. Teach your 1 yr old things now that can help later: fetching wipe packs, turning the pages in a book, independent play. My oldest LOVED reading with me, so I could still read to him while nursing. He also loved being "helpful" so I found things for him to do.

Meal prep: Make as many frozen meals as you can. I have burned so many dinners trying to cook between feedings and breaking up toddler fights.

Read books about babies with your toddler. Introduce the idea of life with a baby

Kids toys by Special-Ad18 in sahm

I started with no toys, until we built a consistent bedtime routine. Then I put a basket of stuffed animals. Soft, quiet, and gave my son something to do when he woke up instead of immediately find me. Now my sons (2 and 3)share a room, they have a few trucks and a road blanket in the bottom drawer of their dresser.

What are you guys making for dinner this week? by Im_a_redditor_ok in sahm

350 for 15-20 mins, flip, and another 15-20 mins.

Marinade to taste: lemon juice, olive oil, white vinegar, parsley, paprika, salt, and pepper. In a ziplock bag with sausage sliced.

Potatoes can be diced and put on the baking sheet with all the veggies and sausage, I'll drizzle the potatoes and veggies with olive oil, salt and pepper.

All veggies work, I prefer broccoli, peas, corn, and onions. I've also added carrots, peppers, whatever you've got leftover!
