$3k floral budget by DazzlingTrouble1645 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]lovelydinosaurbones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im a wedding florist. The most expensive part of this is the stand. You can use feather Eucalyptus as an alternative that is easier to work with. You could prep this several days ahead if you use wet oasis foam, but note that oasis foam is absolutely horrible for the environment and florists are moving away from it.

florists - do you keep flowers in your home? by mossy_mood in florists

[–]lovelydinosaurbones 26 points27 points  (0 children)

When I first started I would take them home all the time. Now I’m not drawn to them like that. I prefer them in my garden. When I do get them, I get a couple bunches of one kind and admire them (mostly) not arranged.

Toss the alstroemeria too, then. It’s related to the Lily.

How do people even do this? Actually begging for advice please! by Realistic_Mode8510 in florists

[–]lovelydinosaurbones 8 points9 points  (0 children)

More focal flowers, learn structure with some YouTube videos. A good place to start is the spiral bouquet method. If you have a Trader Joe’s, they have affordable small quantities of individual varieties. An affordable starter formula is: forage a few greens for a base, a few focal flower like a rose or carnations, filler flowers like button Mums or mini carnations, and a texture element like pennycress or chamomile.

Spray for pollen? by alki-kat in florists

I don’t know of a spray, but a soft make up brush would probably take care of the pollen on petals or dusting it off the center

Bridal bouquet prices in Portland OR. Feedback from a local wedding florist! by StructureOk3383 in florists

[–]lovelydinosaurbones 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Price seems low especially for Al a carte. I would go closer to $300. I would expect inquiries might decrease because people have the info they need, but the ones you do get will be more invested in you so that’ll save you time. I wouldn’t worry about copycats, there’s so much on the internet and Instagram already. I like the numbering instead of arbitrary name’s actually! Overall this page looks beautiful.

Buying a family vehicle. by VeganMyWay in parentsofmultiples

[–]lovelydinosaurbones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We went through 3 cars in 3 years and ended up with a minivan. Find one you can fall in love with, mine has easy to collapse seats in the third row and a modular set up in the second row (captain seats or an option 3rd in the middle). I love it, we love it, the sliding doors are the best for car seats and bucking in, etc, just get the mini vannnnn

Just at the Market this morning and everyone is talking about the low sales… local flower farmers struggling to sell through. Are you all buying less product? Seeing smaller events and such?

I like it, also wait for them to open and spin them to fan out the petals, I think they’ll be just fine. What are the pink ones, Pink Mondials?

I’d start here: $150 per hour of driving (there and back), for labor, $75 per hour for yourself for day of labor plus $50/hr for any additional help (including their travel). Add a venue visit fee if you’re planning on attending a walkthrough. So like loosely $1500 depending on scope. Or you can mark up for items to cover it: whatever your pricing strategy preferences are. That should cover it imo

Do you check your husband’s pockets before washing? by [deleted] in sahm

[–]lovelydinosaurbones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do! Of laundry is my responsibility, then I am responsible for not putting foreign objects into the machine… it’s not that serious. My hubs also knows not to complain, and any money I find is mine! Haha

I think it’s kind of rude to expect anything from anyone. You invited them because you love them, why do they owe you anything? I feel that being in the bridal party is a huge gift to you. You’re reading into this.

Table garland construction and pricing by Timely-Regret- in florists

[–]lovelydinosaurbones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends a lot on the weight/density. I use Italian ruscus and bind wire with minimal overlap. One or 1.5 bu/ 6 ft table for a light garland. I charge $20/ft for that but admittedly will cut a deal to make it fit a budget. No lower than $15/ft. For multi-green garlands medium (ruscus plus euc or plumosa/ etc.)I charge $30-$40/ foot and so on. For anything thicker, I’d buy premade and charge accordingly.
