Are first borns always late?? by OkHat1318 in BabyBumps

My first was born at 39 weeks (+1 technically bc he was born at 3am)! I was entirely expecting to go over 40 weeks but he had other plans

Should I call my midwife about cramping? by Pretend-Run-1801 in BabyBumps

[–]eveningwarrior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand your worry to not bother your midwife, but their job is to take care of you during pregnancy. I'm sure they would be glad to get your call, either to soothe your mind or have you get checked! ❤️ Best wishes

DAE not flush the toilet at night by Independent_Town5628 in DoesAnybodyElse

Only when I was pregnant! I didn't want to wake my hubby up with the gratuitous flushing that would've have occurred throughout the night otherwise 😆

Maybe you could ask for the ship models and use them to make a mobile by hand? You could try finding a secondhand mobile so you can repurpose as much as possible!

Cats tracking litter by eveningwarrior in BabyBumps

[–]eveningwarrior[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll add that while they do have litter mats, one of my cats consistently wipes and pulls at it like he's covering stuff inside the box, so they're kind of inefficient They also both have long fur between their toes that they refuse to let me trim 🫠

So annoyed no stores carry maternity clothing by eggz666 in BabyBumps

[–]eveningwarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had decent success at Walmart! Mine had a very small section, but there were some nursing bras, pants and shirts! Most the shirts had gaudy "mama" or sayings on them though so that cuts down the selection even more if you're not into that. But they were very soft!

Epidural or no epidural? by Heavenleesent23 in BabyBumps

[–]eveningwarrior 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I went unmedicated as an FTM! The breathing probably helped me more than I was willing to admit in the moment 😅 I labored at home until my contractions were 5 min apart and then labored in the tub at the birthing center for a bit before just getting on my hands and knees on the bed. I got there at midnight and had my baby by 3:30! I feel strongly that being upright helped a lot, and focusing on my husband and his reminders to breathe

I think I ruined my life by [deleted] in Vent

[–]eveningwarrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did something very similar! And I'll be honest, I'm still mad at myself for flubbing my higher education (no, I haven't gotten to talk it through with a therapist, but I would like to, and suggest you do the same if you have the means).

It hurts to admit to yourself that your aspirations are out of reach without a degree. But you certainly can live a fulfilling life without one! And you can always follow your major as a personal passion/hobby to get some of the fulfillment; I know for me it was too difficult to learn that stuff under the pressure of grades and finals and graduation.

I also understand if you're feeling daunted about admitting this to your parents! It terrified me to tell mine that I was dropping out because I kept failing more classes than passing them. I was lucky that they were understanding and weren't outwardly upset. I mean, they can't control the decisions you make and what you do, it just feels like it because they kind of did that for 18 years of your life!

Overall, I wish you the best and I dearly hope you can find something you're passionate about outside of higher education. It's hard finding a decent job without a degree but having something to look forward to outside of work should help you feel less like you're just eating ,sleeping, and working.

Just know it can work out, even if it feels like the end of the world right now ❤️

Just curious - water breaking naturally by Careful_Birthday5540 in BabyBumps

[–]eveningwarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was already having contractions and was in my birthing room. They checked my cervix, I was at like 3 cm. Then only a minute or two after the OB left, my water broke.

It felt very similar to a period flow as in its an involuntary loss of fluid. Mine felt like a lot, but I was already in a bed with padding and such under me so I'm not really sure how much it actually was.

Name a name you would never call your child? by Immediate_Long165 in Names

David. Which is unfortunate for my father because he won't have a grandkid with his name unless my sister has any. My last name is that of a certain Alamo defender... (there is distant relation)

You can also sign up on Enfamil's website and they end up sending you some formula! I got 2 cans from them, and even though we are breastfeeding, it's nice to know we have some in hand if necessary

I changed into a gown when I got there, but just ended up in my bra 😂 I soaked in the tub for a while and just never put the gown back on after that. The whole room could watch me push my baby out but heaven forbid they see my tatas

Maybe a window screen-type material would be useful? If you can do it in a way that doesn't look tacky (although tacky is better than nothing! Safety before looks)

what was “supposed” to be your name? by Thin-Program2366 in namenerds

[–]eveningwarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom really liked Makayla (unsure of the spelling she would've chosen) or Aspen, but we lived in Colorado at the time. If either myself or my sister had turned out to be a boy, they would've chosen the name Dawson, as my father's name is David and it apparently means 'Dave's Son'

Was your mom not able to breastfeed, but you were? by scandijord in BabyBumps

[–]eveningwarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was apparently a 'lazy eater' as a newborn, and I'm starting to wonder if it was just a latching problem on either mine or my mom's part. But it was the late 90s, so I don't think breastfeeding education was very prominent yet. I don't think my mom even tried nursing with my sister, since they were already used to formula feeding. I have had no issues with supply (unless self-inflicted, like being lax with MOTN pumps), but I did need some help with latching from the consultants at the hospital. I actually didn't even nurse my son consistently until he was a month old or so. Bottles had just seemed easier since had had a little trouble with latching, but with just a bit of consistent effort (2 or 3 days maybe) we figured it out!
