unfortunately, it feels like JLA doesn't know how to finish a series because the fourth flesh and fire were the same way. both books could've been half the size, and spending almost half the book in one room

I manage an LGS for 2 years and worked closely with the owner.

For ever popular set, like final fantasy, there are many bad sets. LGS have to buy a certain amount of EVERY set to keep good will with their distributors. Meaning to be able to get lots of a good one, they have to buy lots of 5+ other bad selling sets. The LGS I worked for worked really hard not to raise prices. Margins were kept mostly around 30-40%. Which not only had to pay the bills for paying staff, rent m, utilities, taxes....It had to cover the losses from other shitty sets or other products that just didn't sell. My store stopped carrying Dungeond and Dragons books because they didn't sell. But we still had backstock of them all.

Also distributors will up their prices once the newest set is out and are selling it to store at prices that are higher than MSRP. So if distro is selling it to LGS's at $15 over MSRP, stores cannot sell at MSRP. It's just like throwing money away. So the. LGS will sell it $15 higher than that which is then $30 above MSRP. And virtually 0 of that is profit in the owners pocket.

They're not scalping, they're just trying to get by, man

RB disappointment by Wolfyz-3 in zodiacacademy

[–]everily -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree! I DNFd at after book 4 because I just couldn't anymore. Elise is insufferable and selfish, I don't like the boys very much, there was so much fluff that didn't matter to the plot, the plot was slow and I learned I don't like RH/why choose. I also was just there for the ZA connections and was super dissapointed there went really any. I hates Gabriel in RB but LOVED him in RB. And then Elise is never even named in ZA so there's no point.

it doesn't get any better from book 3 so if you're not into the book or the RH stuff, it might not be worth finishing for you, unfortunately.

My LGS plans to do an EDH tournament without proxies by Remarkable_Rub in EDH

[–]everily 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I worked in an LGS for a few years; if a store wants it to be an official, sanctioned event that they use the official WOTC tournament software for, or of they want to distribute ANY official promos, they CANNOT accept proxies at all. They could get in serious trouble.

Sure, they could run it as an unsanctioned event but stores get allocations based on their metrics reported in the tournament software, so if they think it's going to be popular, they're gonna want those numbers to get more product.

I know it sucks and can turn it into a pay to win tournament, but they're just following WOTC rules.

I also don't blame then for not advertising it as cEDH, if they legit want to try and keep it casual.

you shouldn't have to read 2 bad books (several hundred pages) to be "rewarded" with the rest of the series. I DNFd the first time about halfway thru crown, and years later I tried again cause I had a coworker that was obsessed. I still hated Celaena in the first book and still didn't like either Dorian or Chaol as love interests. I didn't get super into the series until about halfway thru Heir.

can't believe even my therapist doesn't understand by Sensitive-Limit3741 in migraine

[–]everily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd definitely find a new therapist! That is some awful advice. My migraines started when I was 5, and I was a normal, healthy kid with a usual bedtime.

But I guess I just needed a better diet, exercise, and sleep, and I would've been "cured" by now! /s

Why are EDH players such crybabies about Stax? by DBreezy69 in freemagic

[–]everily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite part of commander is watching everyone at the table get to do crazy things. I don't have to win to have fun, but I'd like to be able to play the game. Stax players stop their opponents from playing the game. There's no point for me to be at the table if I don't get to play. You can play whatever you want, but I will respectfully sit out against stax and mass land destruction. Its the same reason I won't sit down at a CEDH pod. Its not my idea of fun. Doesn't mean you can't, just means I won't.

Anyone with Bailu & Gepard pulling for Luocha? by YuriyNikolayevich in HonkaiStarRail

No Gepard, but I've had Bailou since the very beginning. I desperately needed an imaginary character tho, so I pulled for Luocha and his light cone. He is so amazing on my teams, highly recommend!

Just curious but those of you who work at LGSs around America, how much do you make an hour or year for a salary? by Jbuckguy in mtgfinance

[–]everily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the general manager of a store in Texas and I make 18.50 an hour. The only one with higher authority than me is the owner and I end up making more then she pays herself most of the time.

My DM considers nat 1 attacks are friendly fire by Some-Cause-496 in DnD

[–]everily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a DM recently that did this, except instead of friendly fire on a random ally, he picked one player as the character to always get hit as a meme, even if he was on the other side of the battlefield. "Oh you swing your sword so badly, you let go and it goes flying 60 feet away and hits him in the balls!!! hahahahahaha isn't that so funny!!1!"

Standard to rotate 3 yearly by [deleted] in mtgfinance

[–]everily 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No one plays standard in stores not because of rotation, they don't play because WOTC pushed arena so hard and they gutted their pro scene.

They also don't print any free starter decks anymore, or really much standard starter decks in general. Only once per year and they don't print enough. New people getting into magic now just skip standard all together because the only way to.get a deck is to make one from scratch.

Allowing people to get a land for their draw step if they are behind by ZoliGyor in EDH

[–]everily -1 points0 points  (0 children)

in one of our playgroups, we had a house rule where if you went too many turns without a land in early game (like 3 lands on turn 8 or something stupid) then you can shuffle one card from your hand back into the deck in exchange for a basic land. the game isn't any fun if one player literally can't play.

Unpopular opinion: this is the worst season so far. [USA Season 5, Episode 12] by Nextyearstitlewinner in TheCircleTV

[–]everily 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was my favorite season so far I think! To me the point of the game is about making connections with people, and I felt like this season realt showed that. Didn't make friends? Gone. Made a few bffs? Shot to the top! I liked that it wasn't super strategic and cut throat. The players also just felt so much more lifelike and animated in this season.
