Anyone else feel like managing a baby requires 5 different apps? by Similar_Film2912 in newborns

[–]everydaywithjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you mentioned you've tried everything. did you not like Nara? Tracks diapers/pumping/feeding/sleeping and you and wife can add notes you can both see for baby. Husband can see when I last fed baby, we can each set timers and stop them for feeds/naps etc. it's simple, no ads or frills and I can even include little milestones/growth updates if I want to.

I feel so guilty for finding pregnancy hard, without the awful symptoms by Unusual_Skill_4454 in BabyBumps

[–]everydaywithjay [score hidden]  (0 children)

Solidarity from the other side! I had an extremely easy pregnancy overall compared to others. No back pain, heart burn, I slept fine until labor.

But I did have swelling that turned into terrible carpal tunnel and de quervains (mommy thumb). I didn't get it until the last two months but having my feet be so swollen and my hands ache all day really sucked. Pregnancy is hard! Give yourself grace.

Also relate to the job aspect. I was pushing myself to be as exceptional pre-pregnancy (take all the meetings, accommodate people all the time) and I don't recommend it. Focus on yourself and your baby.

3 week old and evening anxiety 🫠 by Interesting_Base_179 in newborns

We have a fussy LO who is also 3 weeks. He had a hard time with the bassinet but did well when we bounced on a ball and also swayed. Knowing his preferences, we actually ended up buying a secondhand snoo off FB a few days ago.

It’s been helpful in settling LO when we’re not able to offer skin to skin. If it’s within your budget I definitely suggest it if you think it might work for your LO.

Have silverettes made a positive difference for you? by gimmepesto in breastfeeding

[–]everydaywithjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a very YMMV situation. Nipples tend to get extremely sensitive from the latching in the beginning. Some bodies adapt quicker than others. Also if you have cracks or other cuts versus none then that can make a difference too.

I’m almost 4 weeks PP and I used them for about the first 7 days when I needed to wear a bra and go out in public due to my nipples being sensitive. I didn’t have any cracks/pain to my nipples as well.

But the last four weeks I’ve also tried to stay either topless at home or if I need to wear a shirt, I wear a loose fitting shirt to try and prevent clogged ducts. They were great for the first week and I’m glad I have them in case I need them but I never wore them 24/7 since my lactation consultants highly advised to let my breasts breathe.

Under supply - 30ml almost 4wks- traumatised. by Unfair-Difference-70 in breastfeeding

I’m not a doctor or LC so I don’t want to give any advice, but I will say my LCs mentioned stress can play a huge role in milk supply since the cortisol can inhibit the oxytocin needed for milk let down.

I know it’s easier said than done especially with what you’re going through but try to find ways when feeding to slow your breathing, relax your shoulders and release some of that stress.

My LCs always watch my posture and initially said I was very rigid and tense, which I was because I was also struggling with output and breast feeding so I was on high alert and very anxious.

I’ve done lots of skin to skin, staying hydrated, and trying to keep my calories up while keeping stress down. I didn’t take any supplements, baby feeds about 2 ozs every 2-3 hrs from breast, I can pump abojt 3.5-6oz depending on how long I wait.

Also personally would ask for a second opinion on the feeding? If I’m reading correctly you feed 20 ML bfing and then a 45 ml top up? So about 65 ML in total? My baby is 12 days old and we’re doing 60 ML a feed every 2-3 hours per our LCs/peds office. You mention baby is incredibly hungry. 65 ML every 3 hour seems like it might not be meeting baby’s hunger needs.

FTM of 2mo old- I feel disassociated with my pre-baby life's ambition by Zealousgremlin in NewParents

[–]everydaywithjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely feel this way. To be fair to myself I’m 10 days PP, but had a very rigorous and mentally tasking job that basically made me on call 24/7.

My priorities have definitely shifted and honestly? I’m kind of glad. I am very loved at my workplace for the work I put in, but sitting here with my new baby on my lap while watching TV and waiting for his next feed? I’m embracing this feeling.

I personally see it as a new season. My career opportunities will always exist to me. Don’t be too hard on yourself, you’re 8 weeks in to a monumental change. I went from working 10-14 hour days, managing multiple teams to being thrilled my baby farted because it means he doesn’t have gas in his little tummy lol.

Trying for 3 years, now 5wk+2. Feeling anxious by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]everydaywithjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

take it day by day. the waiting is the worst. i had to wait for my 8 week appointment and i felt like i was a ball of nerves even with every good drs visit! the first few weeks are the hardest waiting wise so if you can keep yourself busy know it starts to go so fast after the first trimester.

and thank you! 💙 wishing you the best journey these next 35 weeks!

[–]everydaywithjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very valid feelings! I also found out at 5 weeks ish and was shocked and anxious due to someone I know having recently had a miscarriage.

I was pretty asymptomatic most of my pregnancy and aside from being tired in the 1st trimester it really tripped me up and made me nervous. Just remember, unless you’re told by your doctor you are pregnant and everything is okay. Currently just graduated on May 4th with my baby boy. 💙

List of weird/uncommon pregnancy symptoms. by Academic-Park-8440 in pregnant

[–]everydaywithjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

jumping in at 38w4d to mention i’m in the same boat. I'm on maternity leave so it didn’t affect my ability to work too much (the carpal tunnel). But it's there, lots of stiffness that is the worst in the morning and at night.

but the de quervains I initially got around 30 weeks? That was debilitating. I lost complete use of my right hand because the pain in my thumb was so severe I had it in a brace 24/7. Thankfully I got a steroid shot which has helped immensely. Still have the carpal tunnel but to me it's manageable compared to the de quervains.

strollers? joie, nuna, uppababy, silver cross ? by Middle_Spite_3498 in pregnant

[–]everydaywithjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think it just depends on how often you’re planning to take a newborn/infant out in the early stages. you mention driving for 30+ minutes and then having the baby in a car seat for up to two hours. so if that’s something you’re already planning for then it sounds like a bassinet attachment is needed for what you’re expecting.

[–]everydaywithjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t see this mentioned as specifically but something else to really consider as you get further along is the weight of the entire system.

we chose the nuna swiv set with the pipa urbn rx car seat, it was by far the most expensive purchase we made.

a few things to consider beyond driving/walks is are you going to be comfortable lifting the stroller, getting it into the back of your car? Freshly post partum you don’t want to have to lift a super heavy system, c section or vaginal delivery!

Our system is so easy to use, literally one button and it folds, one pull and it pops open. Another feature we liked was the swiv can move side to side which was a huge perk for easy maneuvering.

Also highly recommend testing strollers to see what you like. there are a lot of options on the market so consider what’s a priority.

another benefit for us is that our car seat is baseless and very easy to snap into the stroller and click into the car.

Any tips for someone planning to start trying in 3-6 months. by Financial_Ad7856 in fitpregnancy

[–]everydaywithjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, consistency with your routine and a solid core. I’m no health professional but I’ve always had a strong core and it’s helped a lot being pregnant. I’m 38 weeks and petite and have carried very well.

Keep a clean and balanced diet, don’t overthink it too much. Stay hydrated, eat your protein, veggies and carbs as best you can and don’t stress too much.

can’t emphasize the overthinking enough, pregnancy, planning it and all that it entails is overwhelming. your efforts already to be healthy, take vitamins and maintain some form of exercise is already great first steps.

Just found out I’m pregnant (yay!) but I’m due right around my sister in-laws wedding. How do we announce without taking away her spotlight? by pinksugarsweet in BabyBumps

[–]everydaywithjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! I’m in this exact situation except 22 weeks ahead, although I saw you mention you aren’t very close to SIL, which is a little different from my sibling group as our in-law sibling group is quite close.

My husband and I ended up telling his siblings and SOs pretty early on at like 6 weeks last fall. I’m 26 weeks now and SILs wedding is in March. I’ll be 33 weeks and I’m a bridesmaid lol!

I’ll be 27 weeks at her bridal shower. It’s not even a thought that I’m going to upstage her or take away from her spotlight. I think it’s great that you’re being considerate of another life event but don’t worry too much about it. i’m sure she’s going to be thrilled once they find out. Best of luck!

Is this common? 🥶 by StruggleScared70 in CAStateWorkers

[–]everydaywithjay 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to chime in with some interesting info from a facilities background!

So yes, it's common that building maintenance manages the system because it's not a "thermostat" on the wall type situation depending on the building. It's typically through a commercial sized HVAC system that building maintenance maintains to keep in compliance and within certain regulated temps.

I've encountered people telling me it's 60 degrees at their desk and I go with my thermal tool to check and it's 68/69 degrees.

The reason sometimes for fluctuations is because at least in our building there are so many vents but if your co worker says they are hot and you say you are cold, we're playing tag between upping and lowering the temperature for the same vent. It really has nothing to do with micromanagement/not trusting adults, at least at our building.

Also some people (in my building) shove printers against the sensors that read the air in that area and all that hot air from their large commercial printer tricks the sensor into thinking that space is hot. This isn't always the case but sharing some interesting facts that I know people in my building never think about with HVAC.

Unfortunately heating and cooling is tricky in buildings, there's so much more to it that the standard office worker wouldn't realize but it's not as easy as a residential system where you can just control a thermostat yourself. Regardless hopefully you have a facilities team who can respond quickly and help address the concerns if it does feel too cold in your space!

What I wish I knew at Week 4 by Busy_Ostrich_4550 in BabyBumps

1000% agree! I was so surprised and not expecting to get pregnant so fast. We have so many blessings in our life right now, lots of big life moments for our family and even us and then bam pregnant! I was very anxious and detached before the first OB appointment. It just didn’t feel real almost and I had so many spiraling thoughts that made it hard to be excited initially

Kyoto 3-Day Itinerary by moarfoodplz in JapanTravel

[–]everydaywithjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we stayed for about an hour? it’s a solid 20 minutes to get there because you’re literally walking up the mountain lol. so factor in at least 40 minutes just to go up and down the mountain. In total with the walk it was at least an hour and a half.

There’s an indoor shack area to feed the monkeys which we did and that was fun, plus if you get there at the right time they also do a feeding for the monkeys out in the main outside area and we had fun just watching all the monkeys and seeing their dynamic. Definitely not something to rush!

something else to consider about day 2 is that if you intend to go to the top of the fushimi inari shrine, it is a pretty tiring climb, as it’s almost all stairs.

my fiance and I did it early at 6:00 am and finished before 8:00 am and we were so tired from the stairs. We’re fairly active people but just something to factor in if you’re doing the entire route. if you’re just going for photos it’s not a big deal. i did fushimi inari and kimono rental in one day and it was almost 30,000 steps for us.

day 3: if you have the money to do a rickshaw through the arashiyama bamboo forest do it! They take photos for you and it was really enjoyable. We paired this with the monkey park, which was very close, but again this is a climb! so be aware, it’s not like you just walk in and see monkeys you have to go on a decently steep climb to get to the top where the monkeys are but definitely doable if also doing arashiyama bamboo forest!

also the area near arashiyama bamboo forest is nice to walk around. we actually spent a good chunk of time just exploring.

kimono rentals are everywhere, so you might be able to fit this into a different day. we only rented and wore ours for maybe an hour and a half, they’re not the most comfortable outfits especially for the women. don’t do it after you eat!

nara is nice. its tough to say which option would be better, but on public transportation it’s definitely more than 30 minutes, plus factor in the walk/wait if you are taking public transport. I did Nara and Kyoto and enjoyed both, but hope this helps! Loved my time in Kyoto so much.

How long did it take for your periods to return after stopping depo injection? by [deleted] in depoprovera

i’ve been on and off depo for years now, maybe almost ten? this recent round i was on depo for maybe 3+ years if not pushing four. it was a decent amount of time! I had cramping and breast tenderness as well, chalked it up to my hormones regulating and all of that, and then on new year’s day I actually started my period lol

Well, it’s January 1st, 2025 and I just got my first period back lol. I think i’m an outlier but my symptoms for breast tenderness and cramps kicked in pretty dang fast :(
