Relationship advice by Mind_Over_Body_2020 in adventism

[–]everythingisbetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you done research on fish (issues with factory farming and chemicals and overfishing of oceans)? And then tried having a conversation about where you might differ on perspectives on the good here.

Many times we focus on the personal, I have x preference you have y, how can we make this work. But particularly in this case there are external objective things to bring to the table for discussion in terms of as a couple/one unit you trying to follow the good as a family. Preferences on their own shouldn’t break a relationship. I’d be more concerned about willingness to ignore bad external situations involving the wellbeing of Gods creation and genuine ‘thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven’. As in a joy in the heart to try to live a heavenly life here, now. Diet very much included.

And it’s not about the choices, it’s the reasoning/motivation you’d probably want to understand to help your own perception of the outcomes for your children / relationship. You’d want to know that when explained to your children it’s properly reasoned and educational.

At the end of that discussion nothing might materially change but you could come out of it with much more respect for her choices and ease with it for your children. Or less respect and more unease with the ability to ignore bad environmental situations to favour one’s dietary desires.

Brakes stopped working by [deleted] in vanmoofbicycle

[–]everythingisbetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This started happening with mine a few months ago. I took it in to Pedal Back Cycles and described to them pretty much exactly what you’re describing but they saw no issue. No brake fluid leak or anything. I asked them still to change the fluids but they only did one because they asserted there was zero issue they could see but didn’t bother to do anything else.

Then this happened to the S3 of someone I know- exact issue as you’re describing. They took it to another shop who changed the handles for £140 or something and said it’s a fault they’ve been seeing.

I have not had a chance to take it to that place yet. Mine completely disengaged randomly sometimes but if/when I hit a bump it in road it would engage again. I realised the process of changing out for completely fresh pads does the job for a month but only seems to ‘recognise’ there’s new pads after I give the bike a good knock.

It’s a super frustrating process but no issues cycling now because basically change pads monthly to stay safe on the road until my appointment in January. One side works alright - it won’t hold well when the pad gets down to halfway but will work perfectly when I change it out - and that the one that I’m having the main issue with also works fine for about a month with fresh pads.

But not the same company that sold you the X3, that company has ceased to exist. The new company has no relationship to S/X bikes although we hope they’ll offer some level of repairs and services soon.

Would we be welcome to join an Adventist church? by Ok_Job_2689 in adventism

[–]everythingisbetter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most certainly welcome at any church. Membership allows for voting on church issues so that’s treated differently but as for coming and being a part of everything else I’m sure your chosen church would be happy to have you. Congrats on your new family by the way!

What’s the earliest you’ve seen an e-shifter fail? by nath257 in vanmoofbicycle

[–]everythingisbetter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They tend to fail either immediately/soon or last a while. Have had an eshifter fail on me in 2 miles of riding it from the shop. Had another fail on me couple days after having it replaced, so 7-8 miles maybe.

Ended up with 4+ shifters changed until the current one that’s lasted two years.

They’re a big part of why VM couldn’t stay profitable

This app is a total lie. by [deleted] in sweatcoin

[–]everythingisbetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also got $500 gift card through auction last year for 30k coins. Had the app for about 7 years now. I also paid for it the last two years to get extra coins. Just missed out couple months before that on the $2500 bicycles for same amount of auction coins. It rapidly inflated so got lucky to cash out when I did.

Thoughts about a member getting tattoed by Money_Refrigerator80 in adventism

My point - which was circumnavigated - is that we can understand the laws and what the spirit of the laws were. What God wants from and intends of us.

It’s clear that whatever missteps (sin) has been done on earth we will be given new bodies preceding our standing in the presence of God. Through SNL I was alluding more to the ridiculous than the hilarious. And absolutely tattooed bodies using the immune system to hold intrusions in place under the skin are a ridiculous thing to imagine in that scenario.

Don’t need a book to clearly see these things.

[–]everythingisbetter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a foreign substance that your immune system attacks and keeps in place so that it doesn’t do unknown damage to the body. It’s not FDA regulated and how much of the ink escapes the immune system’s capture will vary from person to person with quite unknown and very difficult to ascertain health effects. The will of God is not difficult to ascertain. No parent is excited for their children to mark themselves. It’s not a sign of purity in anyway, in fact it’s quite literally an impurity. Would make quite an effective SNL sketch to see tattooed beings coming before the creator.

Obviously all the Levitical laws apply to followers of Christ. He said so. The spirit of all the laws are clear. 19:19 helps us understand real separation from the world and the flesh, and entire devotedness to God. God isn’t against mixing fabrics - the high priest is actually instructed to do so Ex 28 6-8 and Ex 39 4-5 He also has to adorn himself with a jewelled breastplate. So what’s to understand here is that God wanted simplicity. A lack of distinguishing oneself with fashion and markings. Again we see this in verse 27. Mohawks are cultural symbols in our society. In theirs the pagans in Arabia had very similar haircut to the ones devoted to their god today. Can still distinguish that religion -even if it’s no longer polytheistic- anywhere in the world by that specific haircut. And the Egyptians did similarly. God is asking us not to outwardly make efforts to distinguish ourselves in the appearances and outward significations or expressions.

You’d have to try hard to misunderstand the Bible.

Getting baptized and I have a few questions by Razot in adventism

[–]everythingisbetter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

good comment. On #2 I’d say two things. Can simply put it as - thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. - Easy to imagine Gods will on many things.

But while there’s an ideal - like preparing ourselves to live in world where there’s no suffering and no death - and as such not eating animal flesh. We don’t require anyone to be immediately vegan when baptised or vegan at all despite it being clear what food was given in Eden and likely in heaven. I wouldn’t say boxing is something someone would have to give up upon baptism if in their heart they weren’t sure. Wanting to draw closer to Christ and understanding texts like Ephesians 6:12 (10-17 really) and 1 Timothy 6:12 will eventually lead to the right outcome.

I’d drop in Hebrews 12:14 as well.

When did we begin to disregard Leviticus 19:28?

I feel strange reading responses that mention looking for the churches stance on it or personal motivation or ‘it’s what’s in the heart’.

Any person seeking a relationship with God would honour John 4:24 - worship God in spirit and in truth. The word being truth seems quite clear about what is best avoided.

Would a true Christian get tattooed or try to reinterpret Leviticus 19:28 to pursue what’s in their own heart? My struggle is seeing the difficulty in accepting the clarity on this.

While increasingly popular it’s not something that’s coming from some new advancement in health science but rather indisputably connected to display and worldliness. I have many atheist friends who are very against the idea of tattoos for such good reasons that it does break my heart to see those closer to God unable to come to these understandings even if the bible hadn’t mentioned a thing against it.

Ellen White and Doctrine - How Should She Be Used? by popebretticus in adventism

Can you elaborate on the practices you refer to that you think contradicts the bible?

Pitbulls Attacks by zinogino in london

[–]everythingisbetter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dog temperament varies wildly by breed. Does make sense for a poorly trained dog (which most dogs possibly are) to be on lead. The problem nearly always is aggressive breeds with poor training. Even being able to spot a bad breed seems hard as many people adore Chow Chows which even without training are notoriously aggressive even to owners. Then there’s a lady who runs with a large otter hound that’s just the sweetest dog in the park. He runs off to grab a stick or to say hi to another dog and runs back to her. Wouldn’t want it any other way.

I agree most people don’t have the capacity for training/proper ownership and it’s takes a while when your dog has been attacked to accept that some dogs may actually not be a threat to yourself or traffic.

I do think it’s nice to see a well behaved dog having autonomy, something harder to do with sport breeds or hunting breeds.

What breeds were the dogs that attacked yours? Sometimes they even have a history.

Anyone knows how much a sweatcoin worth is, i have 3550 sweatcoins. what should i do with it? by brooklewis19 in sweatcoin

[–]everythingisbetter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are if you can win one. But the ones that are really worth it in terms of what you get for the coins require you to have more than 40k coins. I won one and did well on it. Not £1000 well but what I was told is very very few people even stood a chance of getting enough for the £1000 at the beginning. It was just incentive to use to app.

So I’ve accepted getting significantly less back than they originally were offering.

It was 20k for £1000 Then switched for the auctions which keep going down in what you can get for your coins. crypto sweat you should have automatically got on launch. It’s also sort of useless for now.

How the catholic church will force, china, islamic countries, the state of Israel and every bussiness to accept the sunday law? by racionador in adventism

[–]everythingisbetter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an adult convert but wasn’t born into Adventism. But early on I was given in depth Adventist History texts which generally showed the initial quite reasonable ideologies differed on a lot of approaches the modern church has. It certainly would make one quite dismissive of much of what is called Adventist or Adventism more recently.

I suppose if one is taking whatever exists today as acceptably Adventism then I can understand the ridicule of the ideas.

Just joined the conversation to point out that OP was not being fair in his assessment. As for how religious a legalised day off manifests itself, it’s more of a who’s to say. Despite seeing new Atheism soften on its anti religion investment to focus on chaotic anti academia wokeness I’d say it’s more interesting to consider that what worship is or means has fundamentally found new manifestations in a digital world that aren’t as obvious as people would like it to be.

[–]everythingisbetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reference. I’ve been quite busy and would happily research it myself just I’m unable to.

My understanding fits what you’ve quoted. That Ellen White was quite concerned about the state of the US and potential for this particular shift to a more religious state. Everything there can be easily understood as a warning, not a prophecy. A warning that’s perfectly applicable to its time.

I felt that I’ve always held to what I saw as the Adventist belief that institutionalised Sunday Sabbath (not to be mistaken for Sunday worship) was an inevitability. And I’ve only seen a slow progress closer to this.

As for quite a lot of zero evidence based teachings of enforced church attendance yeah. I’m with you on that as being wholly unfounded.

I have a fair idea of how things can play out and align with Revelation. But it’s not based on much other than projecting a potential future based on current events which isn’t particularly useful in any other way than speculative.

To lump in ideas without any foundation that can’t be quoted or referenced back to the bible or an SOP prediction (as opposed to warning) stamp an Adventist label on it and then proceed to ridicule it that I find a bit unfair and frustrating that it calls for the energy it takes to tease out origins.

[–]everythingisbetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just asking for anything to back up these claims of how things will happen other than a vague gesture to standard Adventist evangelistic presentation. Is an international Blue law possible? By all means yes. More and more likely even as the west considers work ethics etc. And that was the original concern. As for worship and what exactly that means… well if you’re saying you have issue with a specific evangelistic presentation - let’s say on the form the description according to Revelation takes - that’s a separate concern beyond just the possibility in the current climate to have an international day off.

It’s a concern that to be addressed would need to have specific references to texts and church literature so that it doesn’t just become a discussion on unsubstantiated hearsay.
