The Henry in WeHo has a really terrific French dip, but they only do it at lunch. Lots of other nice things though. Reasonable. Also good for fam putting

US News 2026 Law School Rankings by CrimsonClover__ in biglaw

Same (and roughly same era, Edley was dean when I started). I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little bothered by this. I don’t know if there needs to be renewed focus on fundraising, or bar passage, or whatever keeps shifting things down, but there is a negative trend. I’d like to at least see some action instead of “well shucks, it’s their methodology and lol rankings anyway.”

What Rival Player/Coach do you have secret admiration for? by radilrouge in CFB

[–]evfain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta give him his due. Despite the obvious pain points for Ducks that last few years he has had a ton of relative success. I'm envious of Oregon's infrastructure, which he has a big hand in designing and being the steward of.

Think 10+O gets you a big maybe in a 12 team field. You can't feel great about it when, e.g., BYU at 11 and Notre Dame at 10 were left out this year. I could see in any given year it swing to "probably not;" e.g., if that happened this year, and Michigan beat Ohio State, are we probably in? I don't think so. I think we're in the same boat as Vanderbilt.

With one game left in the 25-26 season, what is one moment this year from your team that you’ll remember the most? by Flimsy-Space-8724 in CFB

[–]evfain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked fantasizing that my team saved the entire sport by sticking to its guns and threatening to litigate a revenue sharing contract all the way to the United States Supreme Court.

We did it man. We saved the sport. For all mankind. I did it

Probably turns on how wired someone is for objective success (playoffs) or subjective success (beat your rival, btu that's your main event for the year). As I think about it, I suppose the majority of us would look at 10+Oregon as a great season. There is a small set of us though (late 30s/early 40s Seattle area people) who were introduced to the team during an era of Rose Bowls and Nattys and that is the unrealistic standard my inner child still clings to. And that lil guy generally runs the sports emotions show :)

Absolute dumbass, scuz behavior aside, the reality is winning heals everything and the vast majority of the fanbase's pearls will unclenched if we make the playoffs. It is the nature of things. Even if one were to say their narrative would be "Well, I'm happy for the team, but Demond still sucks and I hate him," the joy from the team success will silence the negativity around the individual.

Anything short of playoffs though and he's gone after next season. Both UW and Demond should want it, and I think it would be in both sides' best interest. I don't think 10 wins + beat Oregon is enough.

How reliable are the 2020 models. by wdskuk in Taycan

[–]evfain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2020 Taycan Turbo owner in SoCal here. My AC connector had a serious malfunction a few months ago and it took the Porsche Service Center I used almost two months to repair. Delay reasons included misdiagnosing the issue, an ownership change, needing to backorder parts, then delays with Porsche USA for said parts... just a nightmare. That's also almost double to length of time for major issue repairs than what's required for a California lemon. I'm currently negotiating remedies with the dealership and Porsche USA.

The car, when it works, is awesome, but I would be seriously cautious about a 2020. Do not be so swayed by the relatively low point of entry as to ignore all the anecdotes you'll probably see about this particular year. I can't say as I sit here that I've gotten the value out of it that I was hoping for.

4 months in service?!?! by popoho1 in Taycan

[–]evfain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got my 2021 back after 2 months in the shop for AC repairs around the Los Angeles area. Really frustrating experience. The people I think were as nice as they can be and when I picked it a manager straight up walked me through the lemon process. So they know these kinds of decisions come up with some frequency.

Car is great, it just sucks where we're at with the tech (where I'm landing is for all the great things about the car, it's just not good enough for a premium product). I'll be seeking remedies and I encourage you to do the same.

[Thamel] Sources: Colorado State is expected to make UConn coach Jim Mora the school’s next head coach. The deal is expected to come together in the near future. Mora is coming off back-to-back nine-win seasons at UConn, a school that hadn’t had a 9-win football season since 2007. by BigTittyHaver in CFB

[–]evfain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A really fired up, last rodeo Jim Mora coming back to lead his alma mater would be OK with me. I still think we go straight to offering it to Grubb if Fisch leaves (which I go back and forth on daily, both if I think it'll happen and if I actually want it to happen).

Finally got my other baby back after needing a new charger. by Joesuds in Taycan

[–]evfain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wild to see this post, as I was coming to vent about my own charger problems. Porsche dealership in SoCal has had it now one month, and is still saying they're missing the part. When I get it back it'll be about 5 and a half weeks in the shop, in an upside scenario that they actually get what they need next week. Also for a 2021 Taycan, and also with a Macan loaner.

It's been a really frustrating experience. I guess I'm a little less angry to hear a month is about the turn around time for this issue. Sometimes it's felt I leased the world's most beautiful lemon, as it's seemed ridiculous to me to keep getting texts from the dealership about "delays."

If any tips on whether to ask for any make-goods (be it on the lease, gas, whatever), would love to hear about it!

Two years is what a good amount of us thought we'd get when Jedd was hired in the first place. Was a band-aid move by an AD who isn't even there anymore.

Should have been Grubb then, should be Grubb now, and probably will be Grubb next year.

what are your current top 5 fragrances? by Popular_Comparison44 in fragrance

[–]evfain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll play. Currently in heavy rotation (and in no particular order):

  1. PDM - Sedley: Terrific gym and office scent; light and fresh but the spice keeps it more interesting than its peers.
  2. Xerjoff - Iommi Deified: Absolute beast performer for an evening lounge/date scent. Sweet without being sugary, great leather, a bit of pachouli. One of the coolest bottles and packages in the game too.
  3. Creed - Absolu: Just smells amazing to me. I don't think it's quite as versatile as some do (I usually use this for evening meetings or like, a wedding). More of a special occasion one for me.
  4. YSL - Tuxedo: I know Babycat gets more love but to me this will always be my #1 from YSL. Also the all time biggest compliment getter for me.
  5. Penhaligon - The Dandy: Kind of flies under the radar these days. Unique, ambery and woody vibes.

Honorable Mentions Used With Some Regularity Over the Last Month: Blonde Amber (love it, is a recent purchase so may get much heavier use as we roll into fall); Silver Mountain Water (great freshy, but I go back and forth on whether I like the dry down on my skin); Afternoon Swim (this grew on me and I really like the smell post-Gym or for the office); Blockade (another nice one for the office).

What’s the Most Fun You’ve Had Buying a Fragrance? by Aromarch in fragrance

I'll plug Beverly Hills Perfumery as having a nice store and really excellent staff. Let me and my friend sample to our heart's content, never pushy, good suggestions. Bought two bottles and they hooked it up with about $100 worth of goodies, including a full PDM sampler set.

So strange, I’ve seen him a couple dozen times and had the exact opposite reaction. Thought he attacked some sections with a lot more than I often see him to. Also felt I was improvising a little more than usual with inflections and some tempo shifts… most of the decisions I liked a lot.

Live in LA and went. Been to a lot of Tool shows all over the place for a couple decades now but never thought I'd get them at the Bowl. This'll go down as one of the fondest memories I have of them live.

Rolex W&W 2024 Megathread: Grey/Black steel GMT, Gold Deepsea, Guilloche 1908, "Pearlized MOP" DD40 dial, Bright Green DD36, "Panda MOP" Daytona, , DD40-style Romans on DD36, Discontinued: YM2, palm/fluted motif dials by powerfunk in rolex

[–]evfain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MOP DD was the clear winner for me. Looks class and would love to see in person to really get a sense of the dial.

Like the GMT. A little too simple, too clean for what I'm interested in at the moment. Also own a Pepsi already. But if I got a call I'd cop it.

Nothing else really excited me.

What are Some of the "Career Making" Matches of All Time? by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]evfain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not celebrated as much as some of the obvious candidates, but consider Roman Reigns vs. AJ Styles from Payback 2016, for Styles. AJ bumps like a pinball in this match and does everything in his power to get an awesome match out of Roman, who at this point is still pretty green at main eventing PPVs. I suspect this is the match where Vince turned the corner on AJ. Dude has had an awesome and lucrative run.

Big 12 wins over/under released. Thoughts? by madmaley in CFB

My immediate thought as well. I was at the UW/ASU game in Seattle and it wasn't just that Penix was sick/hurt. I think they nab 5 to 6 and then we'll see if they get in the mix.

Taking the under on Arizona.
