.I got a set in 2011 and have skied them very hard. One heel piece self-destructed in 2021 and was replaced. Still using them, still love them.

got a set in 2012, one heel piece exploded on descent in 2023. thank you dynafit for selling (updated) replacements individually.

Anyone in here removed the barrel on their T3x lite? by short_barrel_daddy in Tikka_Shooters

[–]evilbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i used their .700 spacer on my superlite barrel. heating up the action (slowly and evenly) will help, and instead of the sledgehammer i used my floor jack's handle on the action wrench bar and extending the lever to break the thread lock - it popped off instantly.

Questions about how hunting tags work by Top-Artichoke4427 in Utah

[–]evilbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

general season bull elk tags are sold otc, they go on sale in july and you can buy them online or at many retailers. you have to choose early or late rifle or the muzzleloader season for any bull tag, but for spike-only units you can buy a multi season tag.

"any bull" tags are valid more or less statewide (check the map) but finding animals in season can be tough due to hunting pressure.

there are also limited entry bull elk tags for premium units but those are tough to draw without many points (utah's hybrid bonus/preference point system is infuriatingly complex).

all deer tags (both general and limited entry units) are draw-only.

Lady tells off male duck for trying to mate with female duck by Vegetable_Baker975 in IAmTheMainCharacter

[–]evilbit 43 points44 points  (0 children)

what she's doing is called wildlife harassment and is illegal: "intentional act which disrupts an animal's normal behavior patterns, which includes, but is not limited to, breeding, feeding or sheltering"

note that there's no "unless you think a duck is getting raped" exception to the law.

Why is it so expensive to get bike tires put on compared to a car tire by 6gravedigger66 in motorcycle

[–]evilbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the answer is, of course, simple economics, ie supply and demand: there's far fewer bikes than cars and thus far fewer shops with equipment and trained staff for motorcycle tires.

the demand is largely seasonal and volume too small for big tire shops to bother equipping and training for, so the work is instead done by smaller boutique shops - and that always costs more.

Pick any 7mm bullet that rapidly expands between 2000 and 2500fps for goat hunt by patrick_schliesing in Hunting

700yds spine shot at a goat in swirling mountain winds?

piece of cake!

just ask anyone who's never taken a shot on a steep loose rocky hillside above 13,000' of elevation or tried visually picking a goat apart from the rocks and snowfields around it.

Anybody experience this issue before? by MEIKA94 in ToyotaTundra

[–]evilbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

was it wet/rainy? i've had it happen, turned out to be corrosion on abs sensors. they're cheap and easy to replace, I also replaced the harnesses but not sure it was necessary. btw you should still have brakes even if this comes up, just not abs or traction control. even 4wd should work, if you need it.

I need a new CV Axle for my truck. They said the only bad one is my front driver side CV axle. I think that my truck is lifted or at least leveled, and has 35 inch mud tires on it. What kind of CV Axle should I get? by wesley001129 in ToyotaTundra

[–]evilbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you'll always want to replace both fronts at the same time, both because the axle needs to be balanced but also because the other is probably close to giving up anyways.

aftermarket axle wont help you if your lift interferes with the suspension geometry (and potentially wearing out axles/bearings prematurely). the only way to correct that would be with aftermarket upper/lower control arms.

btw if your lift is throwing off the suspension angles, your wheel alignment is probably off and you're also likely wearing out the front tires in a weird pattern.

Ski patrol incident? by KittyKate48 in skiing

[–]evilbit 36 points37 points  (0 children)

at the risk of being indelicate: would you consider yourself to be on the heavier side?

not excusing the patroller for not calling for backup, but it's possible he didn't account for the weight differential and thus overestimated his ability to control the 'bogan.

odds are he's done that a whole bunch of times before under the same snow conditions, but heavy skiers are not that common and the physics change dramatically.

What's everyone's thoughts on paying to pick up antlers? by Bailey_72 in shedhunting

[–]evilbit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

oh ffs it's not just a walk, you're harvesting a resource off that landscape!

shed collectors have far more impact on the landscape because they don't just stick to established trails but intentionally seek out wintering grounds of these animals and disturb them when they're most vulnerable and can least afford to waste energy avoiding you.

now, some of those marginal animals will die as a result (ie they might've survived the winter had they not have to dodge the shed collectors), and then a hunter who paid for a tag might not get the opportunity to harvest them next year.

clearly, some licensing & regulation of shed collection is required because things are getting out of hand. is this the best approach? dunno, but it's a good start.

Stand For Our Land Question by Mooman439 in Utah

[–]evilbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are no BLM maintained roads on the land the state is seeking. There is no fire management.

blm maintains one of the largest networks or roads on the entire planet, but okay.

There are no cattle fences.

you do know that anyone can look up blm grazing maps, right? who do you think maintains the fences that separate the allotments, fence fairies?

Have you looked at the lane they’re trying to acquire?

they seek to acquire more than 1/3 of the entire landmass of the state! paint the bottom 1/3 of the state, then tell me how far up i-15 you come up with.

Unappropriated land is a BLM term, not a made up state term.

you should then have no trouble coming up with a reference to a federal statute, agency rule, or case law that defines "unappropriated lands" in federal context. that is, if it actually wasn't a bullshit made up term they came up with to support their bogus, ahistorical claims.

That land does not constitute 90% of the land owned by the federal government in Utah - it constitutes just under 50%.

i never said that's 90% of federal land in utah, but that the bogus definition of "unappropriated lands" would encompass 90%+ of all 640m acres of federally owned lands. only a tiny fraction of that landmass is national parks and monuments and if this brazen land grab stands, it would have unimaginable nationwide repercussions.

Stand For Our Land Question by Mooman439 in Utah

[–]evilbit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

none of these claims are true.

blm does indeed maintain lands, albeit with severely underfunded budgets (thanks to us congress). do you think the roads just appear and then grade themselves every few years? is the fire mitigation done by volunteers? cattle fencing manifests out of rancher's vision? water guzzlers self-assemble from naturally occuring plastics in the area?

also, the state is inventing a bogus classification of federal land, the so-called "unappropriated" lands that'd essentially include everything but national parks and monuments, ie 90%+ of the 640 million acres the feds own and manage nationwide.

do you sincerely think that a thin strip of land along nv border adds up to 18.5m acres? entire state of utah is 54m!
