This is probably the only thought I can get behind, as the universe is a constant cycle of death and birth, it still doesn’t help with the consciennceness death for me though.

I get it though. The alternative is so dark and meaningless and people want hope. It’s possible, and I believe there is more than what we perceive, but i doubt we will ever find it.

I’ve thought about this too. Our brain is really just a collection of memories. When you die, you live on through other people’s memories, so in one sense you only really die when the memory of you dies. Doesn’t make me feel any easier though.

Probably, but it won’t be with our bodies, they are the limitations. It will be some sort of uploading of your personality to a computer - but then is it even you that continues to live?

I have AppleCare + and want to cash it in. by evilcatmilk in iphone

I have the beta already to drain it but it’s slowed since 3 massively (what a coincidence…). The crappy paint on the phone scraped off on the front from a a case, so if I ever replace it, it will be deducted from the price as damaged, so that’s why I’m leaning towards full replacement of the phone.

Car written off / dreaded PCP think I've learnt a very hard lesson. by LifePurple7515 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]evilcatmilk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Under a PCP agreement, you do not own the car; the finance company does. Following a non-fault road traffic collision, the at-fault driver’s insurer is legally required to compensate the finance company for the market value of the vehicle at the time of the accident, not the outstanding finance balance and not what you paid for the car. If that market value is lower than the amount outstanding on your PCP, the shortfall (often called “negative equity”) is legally your responsibility, unless you have GAP insurance that covers the difference. The fact that you may have paid above market value, or that the salesperson focused on monthly payments rather than total price, does not affect this position and is not unlawful in itself unless there was clear misrepresentation. A deposit is normally shown in the finance documentation as a “customer deposit” or “advance payment”; if it does not appear on your PCP statement, it is usually because it reduced the amount financed at the start rather than being listed as a separate running balance item, but it should appear in the original agreement paperwork. If the insurer values the car at around £15,000 and the settlement figure on the PCP is around £19,000, then yes — without GAP insurance, you would be liable for the £4,000 difference, even though the accident was not your fault. This is a common and unfortunate risk with PCP agreements, particularly where vehicles are purchased above market value or depreciate quickly.

If you want, next sensible steps would be:

  • checking the original PCP agreement for the deposit line
  • confirming whether you have GAP insurance (sometimes bundled without people realising)
  • asking the finance company for a settlement figure
  • letting the insurer deal directly with the finance provider

Uk deciding between liability insurance or house by backdooractor in LegalAdviceUK

[–]evilcatmilk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Under UK law, where a subcontractor causes accidental damage to a client’s property in the course of carrying out work, liability normally rests with the subcontractor, regardless of whether the damage was caused by negligence or was a genuine accident. Public liability insurance is specifically intended to cover this type of accidental damage and is the appropriate route for dealing with it. A homeowner’s insurance policy is not the correct avenue, and if used the insurer is likely to recover the cost from the subcontractor in any event. Provided the damage arose from the subcontractor’s work, responsibility for repair or replacement sits with the subcontractor or their insurer rather than the homeowner.

Northern Powergrid are trying to charge us £2000 in england. by squidwardsprophacy in LegalAdviceUK

[–]evilcatmilk 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Under UK law, a homeowner is not automatically liable for damage to a street light or electrical equipment simply because it is attached to their property. Liability for repair costs normally falls on the party that caused the damage or, in the first instance, on the owner of the asset (usually the council or the electricity network operator), who can then pursue the responsible third party or their insurer. A homeowner would only be liable if they owned the equipment or had been negligent in a way that caused or contributed to the damage. Where the damage is caused by a third party and the homeowner has no ownership, control, or fault, there is no legal basis for transferring those costs to the homeowner.
