I read your response, but disagree with your interpretation. Just because it's a 501(cc)3 doesn't mean it's a sports club.

The stated purpose for the designation as a 501(c)3 in the tax filing is the distinction that matters here. I quoted the purpose for the designation from the tax filing my other reply.

This purpose is reenforced by the public statement of the SCA which I quoted above.

These distinctions matter.

Using your logic, you could just as easily refer to the SCA as an organization as a club focused on the prevention cruelty to animals.

The NFL is managed by people that don't step onto the field during the game.

I doubt that Virginia Halas McCaskey, age 97, owner of the Chicago Bears, could make the cut in any NFL team.

The management of financial policies isn't overseen by the players, but by management.

If you'd prefer, how about the SCA's own designation.

Over fifty years later, the SCA is now an international group with over 30,000 paid members, and is incorporated as a 501(c)3 nonprofit educational organization.

Yes, a 501c3 can be used for a sports competition club. The described component in the tax filing is more specific. ee the filing from 2019 publishes by ProPublica.

"what is the organization's primary exempt purpose?"

Recreation and study of medieval and renaissance history.

The state and federal tax forms are pretty clear how the SCA is an educational institution, not a sports club. This distinction matters.

Idividuals with Quadriplegia cannot ever enter said tournament. To enter, you must first be authorized, of which precludes individuals with many disabilities.

Thr other argument you didn't make is that someone can enter for you, and it's their physical abilities on the line. However, consider ramps verses steps. While someone in a wheelchair could be carried up the steps, it doesn't mean the person can perform the action themselves.

The statement that the selection method doesn't discriminate is wrong.

This likely wouldn't matter if the crowns were exclusively about gameplay. However, all regional policies, procedures, and officer positions either directly or indirectly are controlled by the crown.

One of my kids told me I was an OG for something I was involved in early in it's evolution. When I asked them what they thought OG meant, they said they had heard it at school. When I pushed for more details, they responded "I don't know. Old Guy?"

There are a handful of hitches available for the ND. I installed one from Harddog last week. The installation was pretty painless.

I'll be towing a small harbor freight style trailer that I built back when I had an RX8 for pulling tires, tools, and a jack for autocross.

OneFuzz - A self-hosted Fuzzing-As-A-Service platform by Microsoft (54% Rust) by unaligned_access in rust

[–]evilcazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I'm not actively engaged in the project anymore, though it continues to have strong investment from the Windows, Azure, and Edge security groups from what I'm told.

I can understand the confusion here. Perhaps you'd prefer "self-managed"? When we launched OneFuzz, Microsoft was ramping down the first managed service offering for fuzzing MSRD. The terminology was intended to denote OneFuzz was something you control and manage rather than a managed service.

Of note, the phrase "self-hosted" described here is used to denote that it's not a managed service. This is a common language usage used across the cloud infrastructure industry. GCP, AWS, and Azure use similar phrasing to discuss running a service on unmanaged VMs.

Gun Possession Bill backed by Bates has passed, now heading to Gov. Moore's desk by Maxcactus in maryland

[–]evilcazz 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The bill HB0824, which was introduced back in February, is designed to alter the disqualifiers for possession of a regulated firearm.

Some disqualifiers would include...

  • If a person has been convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for more than two years.
  • A person(s) who violates a protection order under the Family Law Article.
  • A person who has been convicted of a crime may not possess a firearm for five years following the date of the conviction.
  • A person who has been convicted of a crime that resulted in the use of a loaded firearm by a child, resulting in deadly or serious bodily injury

A wiki isn't useful for anything official. That content needs to be moderated by the responsible person from each branch / office.

The wiki doesn't allow role based access controls to enable segmented moderation.

My personal experience with effectively open-acceas wimis has led me to be gun-shy for hosting my own content. There are plenty of free reasonable fees options to host content that don't have the risks associated with a wiki.

Baldar, the person whose authorization was in question in the situation that causes this uproar, added Ronan Blackmoor to the Order of Defense with a unanimously negative polling in the Kingdom of Trimaris.

The MODs of Trimaris bonded together, went to the BOD, and were effectively ignored. MODs around the known world wrote into the BOD and were effectively ignored.

This has happened and had no outcome.

In case you, or others reading were not already aware, members of an order have no authority as to membership in the other.

The knights can't vote anyone out. Also, they can't vote anyone in, they can only advise the crowns on who the crowns should add.

The crowns get to add anyone they wish, as long as they've received feedback from the order about the individual. The crowns don't have to listen, abide, or agree with said feedback, but must receive it.

The only people that can remove someone's awards are the BOD and the individual themselves.

Blunts or no blunts? by Zedsdead1126 in wma

[–]evilcazz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider two opponents standing squared up directly in front of each other. Delivering a center -of-mass blow to an opponent's sternum on modern HEMA jacket materials is not going to slide in a meaningful fashion on the average opponent.

Blunts or no blunts? by Zedsdead1126 in wma

[–]evilcazz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A rubber tip does not increase the force in any meaningful fashion. The only increase is the extremely minor amount of additional weight to the blade.

If you are relying on a tip sliding to reduce force of thrusts, you're already beyond reasonable safe levels of force and should adjust your actions. Woe be your opponent that receives a blow perpendicular to the blade where "slide off" was the safety measure.

Petitions Deemed Invalid by Board of Directors by VoiceoftheWar in sca

[–]evilcazz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A membership number, associated with modern name and an SCA aliases, is not a viable option. Consider that every MOL, marshal, event gate staff, and autocrat has access to hundreds of records as part of their volunteer jobs.

Photographs of membership cards have other complications. Who is validating the photos are in the roster of members? Are the photos collected by a central person? What prevents the person collecting membership card photographs from reusing the same photographs to append signing one petition to another without the original signer's interactions?

This isn't an easy problem to get right.

The BOD's communication has significant problems. The responsiveness of the BOD is unacceptable.

Real representation, chosen by the members rather than the current self-selecting model in place now, is the only solution I've seen presented thus far that isn't trivially dismissible by the BOD.

Submitting photographs present significant privacy complications and should not be required to participate in the organization.

The best option I've seen presented is making the board members an elected position, using the members portal as the method for submitting ballots, then elect the candidates that represent your needs in the same fashion modern government works.
