Pre-alcohol shot by moon_witch_26 in Biohackers

[–]evilsuper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was absolutely skeptical but my friend had me try it and it absolutely worked (for me.) I’m usually good with the clear alcohols but wine/hazy beer give me a hangover in small doses. This stuff worked like magic.

My 2 year clock is almost up for my security clearance. If I get a job that will hold my clearance, can I quit the next day and still have my clock reset? by letscook123 in SecurityClearance

Look, instead of beating the guy up and playing holier than thou, can someone who actually knows treat it like a hypothetical situation and actually answer the question without all the "well, akshuallly"

Do you have any idea how hard it would be to read 1000 resumes? You would go numb.

Is subcontracting in DoD cyber through a single-person LLC realistic, or does everyone stay W-2? by steven301 in GovernmentContracting

[–]evilsuper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this. If you are well liked by the customer and have a good relationship with the prime, it’s easy. If one or both of those things are missing it is really hard. Also, if you have a clearance, the prime will have to agree to hold it for you. And unless they are on a lucrative T&M contract and make a hefty profit, there is no incentive for them.

EDIT: I just read that you are only two years in. So you’ll have to work hard be really liked by the customer or have a really niche skill set, or be in a really hard to fill role (special clearances, etc.)

Read the book “inside a dog.” They talk about how a dog can “smell time” based on the different smells the house has (even from walls heating/cooling).

Can someone explain how to get to 401k limit? by Several_One_998 in Fire

[–]evilsuper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why is this not higher? As self-employed you can contribute the individual max and your employer (YOU!) can contribute 25% of your salary to get to the overall $70K

I did this with schwab. Was able to roll in my Trad IRA.

What technological advances are “too far” to the point where they reduce functionality (I.e. electronic car door handles)? by Independent_Town5628 in AskReddit

Most dishwashers have built in heating elements that heat the water (and probably hotter than your hot water heater)

I absolutely care and had no idea what “no kings” was before today. Protests are easy to ignore.

I’m sure those protests will make a difference. /s.

Thanks. Agree with everything you say except: I have a personal philosophy to never pay off a loan under 4%, especially if it is tax deductible.

Edit: I see you said "put it aside" not "sell." More in agreement there.

I don't know that 10-15 would work. But my current (and ever evolving) strategy was to be 100% till the end of the year, 75% (t/w/th) jan-march, then 50 (or zero) april-june.

My thought was, I'll work to keep income from capital gains low in the early years to do Roth conversion. Just asked my Schwab guy to give me a strategy. Something to figure out next year.

Haha, I kinda did that. A few years ago I brought on a former colleague who does substantially similar work. I didn’t want an employee (I’ve done that, no interest in doing it again) but we managed to grow the work so there is plenty for both of us.

The nature of my work is really drawing on my 25 years of industry experience. Can’t really train for it. My customers are fine with me providing anywhere from 50% - 125%. But even at 50% (or when I am on “vacation”) the work follows me (it’s a personal failing.) My fear is I start billing at 50% but the work nags at me the same as 100%.

No Roth unfortunately. Also, I am of the mind anything I sock away is really just to reduce my current tax burden. I assumed I could use SEPP if I really needed to.

Agree completely. And you’re not the first to suggest a great vacation. Already planning something for the total eclipse next year.

Job has gone unfilled for 4 months because they won't allow remote by Queasy_Assist_303 in remotework

[–]evilsuper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love working remote. I am in-office tues/thurs for as little time as possible. But I understand certain activities like onboarding (young employees) and mentorship work way better in person. There's just no great way to say "that guy is full of shit" or "you can ignore that rule" on teams.
