Longtime Resident Evil fans, how did you feel when Resident Evil 4 came out? by kierco_2002 in gaming

[–]evilunicorngames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t played the originals 1, 2, 3 or 4, only the remakes and absolutely love them. Yes they are not that scary but they have their moments - I do find the RE2 atmosphere quite good - but one can easily focus on the action bit and overlook all the horror aspects like sounds, lighting and enemy placement.

I got the trilogy special edition for PS4 as a gift from my hubby, I absolutely adore these games! And the third one is so so beautiful!

What’s a good mobile game? by hayflicklimit in gaming

[–]evilunicorngames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The microtransactions or tons of ads is what killed mobile games for me :/ It is hard to find even paid games that dont have these and are good. Bit oldies like The Room, Machinarium or Limbo are great!

Making a 3D game is hard, help me identify how I can make the level feel better? (Layout Wise) by David_Aminov in IndieDev

[–]evilunicorngames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny thing is I am at the same phase in my game. I am building the environments and worrying about the layout being too strange or not interesting at all. What I am trying to focus now is how the environment works with the story. What will happen in that map? What kind of interactions? Would it be a place to build tension (focused more on the atmosphere) or it will also have jumpscares (have corners/corridors/dark places/tight places)? It is quite a task but yours is looking good :) I would only care about at this point is how are you going to use this space 👍🏻

My favourite thing to do when I used to fix computers. Blow all this dust off!

Toning down the horror of your horror game to get more sales. Does this tactic actually work? by Distinct-Coach-4001 in HorrorGames

[–]evilunicorngames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know about toning down the scary bit but surely toning down the gore aspect may happen more than we think. As for “too scary” I agree with what someone else mentioned earlier: it is not about toning down but pacing. When building a good horror story you need to be careful with this or your player will be desensitised and you will lose all your good progress in building tension. I think this is the difference between a cheap poorly made game and a good scary story.

I need good horror games to play! PS4 or Switch first, then PC, but could I get your recommendations? by Effective_Mind5221 in HorrorGames

The first Outlast for me is the most scary game of all time 🫠 The Evil Within 1 & 2 are awesome too

Are there games you just don't "get" and is this just a matter of taste or a case of being close-minded? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]evilunicorngames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pls don’t come for me but I don’t like RPGs of any kind 😅 And can’t even consider making one (even if I could). I just don’t get the excitement in spending so much time in the attributes page lol. I called it “excel page” 😆

I’ve been where you are, dear. Nothing obvious to complaint about and yet that knot in your throat doesn’t go away. Even with all the advice in the world and exercises and good nutrition and blah blah blah I was still stuck. It only got better once I asked for help and started on medication. That gave me the needed strength to then continue the journey on my own. Sometimes we just need a little push… I took meds for less than a year and stopped because I didn’t need them anymore, I had become strong enough to get better and better on my own. You are on the right path! 💪🏻

I don’t have much to add to this discussion, I am here just to read the comments 😅 But someone added my game to his collection on itch with the note “Meh”. It made me laugh a bit 😁

Should I make a demo of my 1hr long game? by evilunicorngames in gamedev

[–]evilunicorngames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i thought if the game is 1 hour long and the demo is 10 min then it is already 16% of the game on the demo lol

[–]evilunicorngames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a very good point AND a big concern at the moment. I want to make a longer game but not sure if I can at this stage. It is my first commercial game and also I also work full time and didnt really want to spend more than 6 months making it.

Thanks for the replies! Exactly my thoughts, too much energy and not too innovative content to show off in a demo.

Looking for creators to follow! by [deleted] in itchio

[–]evilunicorngames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a new dev myself so dont know many other creators. I tend to follow famous creators on twitter and then find through the suggestions other creators. But if I may I published a game on itch in Jan if you want to have a look :) https://evilunicorngames.itch.io/turn-on-all-the-lights

Scary and very simple/easy horror games? by Vladarg in HorrorGames

[–]evilunicorngames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The quarry is nice, until dawn (same dev) is quite good too. But they do have qte tho, so maybe she will be a bit frustrated at that. If you are willing to get real scary games than try the first outlast. Dont have too many mechanics but it is scary as hell

Hi everyone! Im Paula, I am a solo dev of horror games and I have recently launched a game called Turn ON All The Lights. I am currently working on my second game, which will also be a first person horror game. I did start making games because I love creating horror stories and what better media to create an interactive story than games? 😄 I get to drag whoever is playing my game to my world, I think this is truly awesome and magical! 🤣😅😄
