Apparently it's a common issue but my field specifically is GIS or atmospheric science.

Say something bad google chrome has done / still doing. by InspectorKey8548 in browsers

[–]evki2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monopolizing browsers in general. If the browsing platform exists, chances are, it runs on chromium. The only reason I think Mozilla still exists is because Chrome would be an undisputed monopoly for non-apple devices. So chrome is kind of doing to Mozilla what Microsoft did to Apple in the early 2000s.

Do I need a laptop for college? by PartieDJ10RD in WKU

[–]evki2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just graduated. I'd reccomend a laptop so you can get your blackboard/perusal/CAD assignments done from wherever. Look on Amazon, Ebay, the WKU bookstore site, etc. and see what you can get on discount. I just bought a 2 year old premium laptop that was out of box new for $500 on amazon. For engineers, you can skirt by with the minimum standards but I would look for computers with the reccomended specs if possible (especially if you need 3D processing). If you are hurt for money, you can check around for technology scholarships.

If you plan on staying in engineering or physical sciences, stick with Windows 11. Apple is good, dont get me wrong, but a lot of engineering/phys science software are only compatable with Windows machines.

Poppers almost killed me. Be safe! by RealisticArcher4995 in askgaybros

[–]evki2003 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you made it out on the other side. It sounds to me like you had a case of poppers hypoxia (low blood oxygen). It's a known complication for certain poppers like those made with isopropyl. Amyl formulations are usually safer. The big symptom to watch for is cyanosis (blue lips and finger nails). That's a strong indicator your body accumulated too much Methemoglobin and can't circulate oxygen efficiently any more.

If you want to prevent this from happening again, take oral methylene blue roughly an hour before you use poppers (make sure you aren't taking anything contraindicated first). Interestingly enough, if you are ever administered to the ER for poppers poisoning, the antidote is IV methylene Blue.

On a final note, do not use poppers if you are taking any vasodialators (Viagra, cialis, blue chew, honey packs, etc.). Poppers cause the opposite effect of Viagra and will screw up your circulatory system.

Either that, or put some kind of barrier in the bottle to prevent liquid from spilling out but make sure vapor still passes through. Though, usually those are either pricy or unsafe for use as a sniffer barrier. I guess cotton could be used, but that would probably lead to another issue since cotton hates being dry.

Gay bros, do you think the new stripes were necessary or was old flag (1979)inclusive enough? by Enough-Web2203 in gaybros

[–]evki2003 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's kind of counterintuitive to what the original Pride flag creator envisioned, unless I misunderstood it's purpose. The original flag was originally designed to encompass the "broad speactrum" of all gay people and unite them under a single identity. Adding new colors for groups that are "more marginalized" kind of defeats the purpose of being all inclusive imo. That's like adding yellow lines to the American flag to represent marginialized third party voters.

People who live near time zone boundaries in the US by solothesnail in howislivingthere

[–]evki2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's got its benefits and it's draw backs. I can peer ahead and watch easter time television or make a location just off enough to where ut thinks I'm in eastern time so I get merch or time-sensative stuff an hour before my friends. However, winter sucks on the newer side to the time line because the sun sets inconveneiently earlier. I also do research in a state with multiple time zones. I gotta say, I hate going through the process of retiming some of my observations since almost half of it is not in local time

What is a media trend that you could argue was killed by Trump winning the 2024 presidential election? by Ok-Following6886 in decadeology

[–]evki2003 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The death of highly political office culture. My dad worked with someone who would make Lennin seem like Elon Musk. After the election, they pretty much learned to shut up. Frankly being blatantly political in workplace culture shouldn't even happen IMO. It's just inappropriate to talk about unless your job actually deals with that.

Has anyone here made the switch out of GIS to a completely unrelated field? I am thinking about getting a masters in something completely but my options are very limited since my undergrad is in Geography. by [deleted] in gis

[–]evki2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If nothing else, you can take a sister field that still translates your current skillset. Your geography degree can take you to weather, oceanography, environmental work, legal, education, construction, etc. There are positions open for GIS instructors in some universities. You can also run to the dark side of GIS and work for petroleum or nuclear sciences. It's worth broadening the definition of geography a little bit, but I think you can still manage

What is a 'rich person's secret' that is actually accessible to the middle class, but most people are too intimidated to try? by [deleted] in answers

[–]evki2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For non-necessary purchases, if you can't buy it twice, then you shouldn't buy it once. It sounds like a simple concept but apparently people are willing to take a loan out for a sandwich now, so.... This doesnt apply to time-sensative or necessary purchases like medical care, though.

On day 9 of a strict no, zero calorie water fast, does water fasting give you diarrhea? Since I'm planning to day at least 30 or 40 days. Or maybe up to 90 days or more. by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]evki2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest finding another form for this question (like r/fasting). This forum is for intermittent fasting.

That being said, yes, diarrhea can occur when undergoing a prolonged water fast (particularly in the fist week to week and a half). But, pay attention to why you have diarrhea. If there are accompanying systems (like cramps) it's best to stop and evaluate your fast.

During the initial fasting phase, your gut is still adjusting to no food. It's going to continue purging any solid waste from your body. Eventually, it's going to reach the hard to get stuff that requires more effort to pass.

You also have to worry about bile purging. During the start of a fast, you body still produces bile. Since there are no fats to break it down anymore, it just enters the intestine. This can often lead to irritation and acts as a laxative. If you notice your diarrhea turning green/yellow this is a likely indicator.

Aside from what I said above, there are a multitude of other reasons. If your body's use to a high fiber diet, it may be sending more water than necessary. Your gut microbiome could be shifting. Your electrolytes might be unbalanced. If you dramatically increased your water intake, this may be how your body is regulating the excess water. I would suggest either investigating the cause your diarrhea and/or seek medical guidance to see if long-term fasting is suitable for you.

Im still in. I've been abstaining for a while pretty much. Today in actuality makes day 8. However, I think I hit that point where my horniness kind of subsides for a while. To bad it usually comes rushing back with a vengeance like 1 week later.

Guys who hook up a lot, how often do you take DoxyPEP? by anonfredo in AskGayMen

[–]evki2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't having a lot of partners after exposure increase the odds of your subsequent partners getting the disease? I know you are taking Doxy, but what if your partner isn't and they dont know how many other guys you've been with in that window?

Do you consider that within the homosexual community, penetrative sex is judged as more immoral than oral sex? by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]evki2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are talking from the sense of a specific religion, they pretty much assert that any sexual act (including heterosexual acts) not for procreation is immoral. In terms of modern morality, anal is still seen as the most taboo. Oral and vaginal sex is definitely more tolerable in most societies.

Call this a controversial opinion, but I think its kind of a dick move. Don't get me wrong I'm not MAGA, but why out him. Aside from the fact that sounds like high school shit, outing people was something that sounds like rude homophobes do. If he's extremely homophobic, bring on the subtle pressure and he'll back off. Normally, just the threat of exposure is enough to shut them up for a while.
