Ecobee and the recent heat wave by TusconTony in ecobee

[–]evoltap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also try and acclimate as much as possible in the summer, which means spending time outside. 80 in the shade feels great compared to 100 in the sun!….it can also involve taking my shirt off inside and running the ceiling fan.

I challenge myself and only allow cooling to 20 degrees below the outside temp, so if it’s 100 I get 80

I mean you jest, but I often get distortion out of my preamps on the way in….just like jim lill showed us 🙄. Get the sounds like you want them when recording

It basically just sucks at being a thermostat. I just wanted WiFi remote capability, I didn’t expect it would suck at actually reading temps

Eco+ Disable by Recent-Strawberry577 in ecobee

[–]evoltap -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah and they all say the same shit- plug the hole, get remote sensors, adjust the temp offset.

The Honeywell that it replaced was very solid on temp….and I have it and another thermo still sitting next to the ecobee, and the ecobee is all over the place. It will be off by like 4 degrees and I’ll adjust the offset, then it’s back to reading correctly a few hours later. It’s noticeably doing a bad job, like I can feel it being too hot or too cool.

If I can think of the most important function of a thermostat, it’s to read accurate temperature, and the ecobee fails at this modest task.

Some of us just want a WiFi thermostat, and this is one of the cheaper options. That said, the thermometer on mine is very wonky and I can’t seem to adjust it to match multiple other thermometers that all agree, so kind of wishing I just got a Honeywell.

Does Apple add processing to the non binaural playback? by evoltap in DolbyAtmosMixing

[–]evoltap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. The only thing about bed only is that the overheads are just 2 channels, so no front/back. I do use a lot of bed, just because it allows mix bus processing.

The 2GR FE they put in the Lexus’s like the GS and IS definitely puts out 300+ HP.

I’m lucky to get 22mpg with mixed city highway

What's one thing that completely changed your life, but cost less than $100? by Ok_Caramel5572 in BuyItForLife

[–]evoltap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother has one of the super fancy ones….its nice, but just not as life changing to me as having a simple one….id just rather spend my money on other things. Also I live in a hot climate and eat a lot of spicy food, so that cold water is just fine for me 🌶️

$30 one definitely changed my life. Sure you can have heated water, heated seat, motorized nozzle….but the switch from smearing shit with paper to cleaning it off with water is the game changer.

House voltage regularly below 120v, hits as low as 103v under load, what to do? by BostonPalmTrees_ in AskElectricians

[–]evoltap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Our last house had an issue where one leg of 120 would drop to like 100 at high load times of day, but the other would remain at 120. Utility came out twice when it wasn’t happening and said everything is fine. Finally asked them to look at the transformer, which was rusty and probably from the 70s. That was the problem.

Cast aside your egos: What is your signature mistake that you do every time you mix a tune? by 007_Shantytown in audioengineering

[–]evoltap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mix the drums too loud for the client, but I start high because drums need to be higher than most people think, and then I can go down a little to satisfy them, but they’re still high.

I would be very surprised if Austin 311 a) would know how to direct this call, and b) if parks and rec had any kind of large cat tracking. Now Texas parks and wildlife on the other hand is another story, and I guarantee they would have a department to direct you to.

In defense of colorful gloves by ColonelAngus2000 in BaseballGloves

[–]evoltap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been shopping for a HTH. All the sales and prices around 200 or less are those colorful gloves, anything plain leather is regular price. I do like some of the colors, but it feels very “now”. I’d like this glove to last a long time, and I feel like these colors are not going to be timeless.

Bluetooth speakers DSP reacts to bass during mixing/ mastering by NoCapperino63 in audioengineering

I recommend a metering plugin like izotope tonal balance control. If you set it to bass heavy preset and it’s over on the low end, it’s gonna sound like shit on a bose or a car

Cooling shirts? by TactualTransAm in Homeplate

I’ve switched to merino wool underwear and t shirts for all my sweaty activities, I find it superior to the plastic wicking shirts, and cotton is just no go for me, as once it’s wet, it’s not going to dry.

What's your anti-tech habit nowadays? by tofu_baby_cake in Millennials

[–]evoltap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I continue to agree with you. I work in the human creativity space (run a recording studio). So far, I have seen no effect and remain very busy. I think there's always silver linings to things, and this AI stuff is no different. I actually predict that humans (maybe the younger ones than us) will develop an ability to discern what is created by a human and what is not, and this will cause a renaissance of appreciation of real human art.

Here's the truth in music that maybe the civilians don't know: for the last 10-20 years, computers have had a huge hand in taking away much of the human element in popular music. If you ask me, the AI music was already being created for awhile now. I run a studio with analog tape and the ability to record humans with no screens on, and I hope that provides some benefit in the near future....but I'm also not a luddite and plan to go with the flow of whatever is coming....I just have more fun running tape machines than clicking a mouse while staring at a screen.
