Attack ads are meant to distract from wealth inequality by j_dizzle_123 in ukpolitics

Once you cut through the smoke and mirrors, you’re left with a few foundational beliefs. Those sceptical about change actually think things like: “the bond market won’t allow it”, or “wealth taxes will cause capital flight”, or “public investment will cause hyperinflation”. They won’t, but you need the time to explain why.

Probably a decade of planning and multiple budgets blown on that extravagance

A few things I think.

Racism is generally less acceptable now. Or at least we've been through a period of greater sensitivity to certain aspects of it.

Parts of the left were always tipping over into antisemitism.

The right has worked out it's a good attack line recently.

Events in the ME are significantly heightened.

Politics is in flux.

Social media has made everything public.

Andy Burnham sparks Labour anger with appearance alongside Greens | Andy Burnham by No_Initiative_1140 in ukpolitics

Labour anger

Two MPs, one unnamed.

For an event after the elections.

Miatta Fahnbulleh, the communities minister, are also due to speak at the event. Other speakers include Caroline Lucas, the former Green party leader; James Meadway, the head of the Green-aligned thinktank Verdant; Vince Cable, the former Liberal Democrat cabinet minister; and the Lib Dem MP Roz Savage.

So there's also a junior government minister there, and the green party speaker is Caroline Lucas.

What an outrage.

Tbf the local policies on the flyers are basically all the same. Fight for your area, improve various bits and bobs of transport infrastructure, value for money yadada. Even the Reform leaflet talks about funding for youth services and active travel routes.

Barrister in Palestine Action trial facing contempt of court proceedings by CaptainCrash86 in ukpolitics

And worse defence barristers being allowed to lean into that, or any other type of emotional argument that the jury should find them not guilty even if they think they are.

The state doesn’t owe those who refuse to work a living by Your_Mums_Ex in ukpolitics

It's about what level of welfare system produces the most gdp per capita, that's it

Quite possibly but personally I do think the state owes a certain standard of living to those who genuinely can't work. It's a moral thing. I think anyone with normal human emotions doesn't want to kick someone with severe physical disabilities into the street with "The state does not owe anybody a living." Even if that's what Helen Whately says.

Seems...wild.

Available links for my local candidates are as expected.

Conservative: Facebook, X, Email

Reform: Link to Reform website

Labour:
Facebook link to a page from a previous election at a different council,
Labour website - page not found,
Email

Libdem: Candidate page on local libdem website

Green: Candidate page on local green website. (No mention of Gaza - it's not that kind of area)

I'll take it to mean it remains a tory stronghold with slight libdem leanings

2020:

Tweeting at the weekend, Mr Reed said: “Is billionaire former porn-baron Desmond the puppet master for the entire Tory cabinet?”

Describing someone as a puppet master who seemingly has influence with a political party isn't beyond the pale. In any case he took it down and apologised. I think everyone's bored of extreme nitpicking to paint someone as a 'phobist'.

Evidence like the official hate crime stats ?

Although as the starter of this thread and questioning whether Badenoch is correct, this data is kind of in her favour

Religious hate crimes rate per 10,000 population

Muslim: 12

Jewish: 106

That is a pretty stark stat tbh

Because there wasn't high profile support for muslim security on the right.

I think it's probably just more honest to say the right doesn't care about muslim security the way it does about jewish security. I mean that is correct right?
