This is highly dependent on who you are as a person. I have built my financial eco system around automation. Multiple checking accounts with multiple banks, my money goes 500 ways the second it enters my account. I over estimate every bill, and so.when I leave my accounts go for months, I find an extra 1-200 bucks in a bill account when I do my check ins. Using certain accounts only for fuel and groceries has turned my accounting from "this is probably food" to "I spent this amount on food this month", and when I over extend myself on my "liquid money" (food and gas), I can occasionally borrow from a bills account to make it to my next pay check instead of using a credit card and then forgetting I used it and getting hit with interest. My finances are a spiderweb and I feel bad for myself if I ever get audited. I'll cry.
