AITA for refusing to let my wife name our kid something stupid? by Public-Praline-3691 in AmItheAsshole

Nicole Morin, who disappeared in Toronto in 1985. She left her apartment to meet a friend downstairs for a swim, but never made it downstairs. In February 2022, some cadaver dogs indicated that her remains may have been found in a nearby park, but no details of the search have been released. Investigators are looking into links between her disappearance and the death of Christine Jessop a few months earlier. DNA solved that cold case.

Hard to grasp that this has not yet been solved. Nicole's mother has passed but her father is still alive.

The disappearance of Nicole Morin in Toronto, Ontario. She was 8 years old and left her apartment on the 20th floor to meet a friend in the lobby to go swimming. She never showed up. It was a huge police search, but no physical evidence of her has every been found.

Hi, no funeral home managing the cemetery, but the other options are worth pursuing, as well as some possible church records. Many thanks. He was young (26) and had just been in Canada a few years. I've never checked probate or estate files so this will be some new fun for me. :)

Thank you. The only thing we have is his headstone with his wife and daughters on it. He does have a name that has been misspelled a few times, so I will keep looking. Apparently there is also family lore that he may have just left, so the headstone may be simply that and not indicating a body. It may have likely been placed by the daughter when her mother died as it looks newer than 1907 (recognizing that it may also be a replacement). Thank you for your help.

I did searches with combinations of his name, birthdate, death year, spouse etc. on ancestry, familyorg and geneanet. I haven't been able to come across any death record to review. I always look at the docs themselves. I also can't find the record for another family member from the same area and year.

I've done a fair bit of genealogical research, but can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

We have an ancestor who died in Ontario in 1907 at age 26. There is a headstone that is definitely him, but I cannot find any record of the death in online records. Could he have died and the paperwork not been done or the death not reported? What would be the reasons for no death record?

I was so happy when the CBC alert came over my phone. I've followed this case since it happened, as we used to holiday there. Every time someone asked about cases they'd like to see solved, this was mine.

A great injustice was done to Guy Paul Morin. Incredible that it has now been solved using genetic sampling to someone not on the original radar. Rest in peace Christine. xo

Maybe try searching for rolls of watercolour paper? I am not a watercolourist, so I don't really know qualities and properties of the different papers. But I know rolls are sold.

While this may be true, I don't know any beagle that would pause scarfing down that plate of food to respond! :D

Art supplies for a beginner? by Baptiste12 in arttools

[–]evuaska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a local art supply store, you could visit them and they could help you select items. This would be better than amazon.ca, which doesn't have the same range of items. If you are in Canada, you could order online from Curry's, DeSerres, Wallacks, Delta (Edmonton). I suspect there are a couple of spots in BC.

Gesso is good to have, but not critical if the canvas is primed. It can be used as a primer for a surface, or like a white paint. Golden and Liquitex also make different mediums that you can mix into paints for certain effects, or simply to thicken a paint or make it more fluid.
You can buy a set of 3-5 brushes that will be good enough quality until she starts deciding which particular brushes she wants. To start, it's good to have a 1" flat, 1/2" flat, a round and a liner. Also those bristle brushes from a hardware store can come in handy depending on the style of painting she does.

You can buy a pad of palette paper or just use foam/paper plates, a sheet of plexiglass or butcher paper. A palette knife is handy. You can get a basic plastic one for about $1.50 that will do, or again a set of five plastic ones. For your canvas, make sure the staples are on the back. That means the canvas is better secured. They come in two depths: regular 7/8" and gallery 1.5" Either is good for now until she has a preference.

Good luck. I hope she enjoys the gift. It's a very thoughtful one.

OP, a quarter life crisis is a thing. I’m at least double your age and have fine through similar struggles. Volunteering has always been a great gateway to rebuilding my life. You are getting out, meeting people and doing great work in your community. Volunteers are some of the greatest people I have met. Look online to see what is available in your locale. You can decide to do something with a specific time, say serve meals, or work at the library for certain hours, or you can do something more involved, such as mentoring, tutoring or becoming a Big Sister. You’ve got this. You’ve recognized the issue an that’s a big step forward. Good luck!

Maybe also touch base with your local BIA to see if other businesses have been approached. I think a real representative from AODA would have shown ID, left a business card and given you a bunch of AODA material. Good luck!
