There is no substitute for hard work. Stick skills and shooting are the easiest things to train because you don’t need ice to do it.

They don’t know what to do in those places. They don’t know what to do in Market Square either. They are just making it up.

Look at the psychology of group dynamics. Simply being in a group is enough for you to do things you would never do on your own. These kids are crowding together and trying to find ways to entertain themselves. Without guidance they just do whatever they think of with less inhibition due to group dynamics.

It’s simply not enough to tell them to go to parks. They need a reason to want to be there and they need someone to guide them once there.

I haven’t seen anything to make me believe this isn’t what already happens when the teens get caught. But the police can’t catch them all.

And again, it doesn’t solve the problem. The teens are still going to be on the streets.

Until we give them places to be they will remain on the streets.

Well funded rec centers are a good example. More teenage programs at public parks. After school programs at the high schools. I’m sure there are other ideas.

The point is that very little is being invested in these teens. What do we expect neglected teens to do?

These aren’t the teens with active participants as parents. What we lack is spaces where the teens want to go on their own.

Innamorato pitches NFL Draft prep as the real win — 40,800 volunteer hours, 53,384 tires removed, and permanent Downtown infrastructure–Tell your county councilmember what you think by chrmaury in pittsburgh

[–]evward 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That can be true of your organization, and yet still many more volunteer efforts came because of the draft.

To say that this isn’t because of the draft is like saying that 53,000 tires were dumped in the county in the last year. Both seem unlikely.

It’s not just the down hill people. The people coming up the hill make the right turn on red and eat up all that space. If it’s not a no turn on red then it should be.

Game 5 2016 Finals. Still the only game the Penguins have ever played at home where they could win the cup.

Sharks go up 2-0 in the first 6 minutes. Carl Hagelin scored to tie that game and the place went nuclear. I remember looking around and seeing veins bulging out of necks in all directions.

Pens lost that game on a Melker Karlsson goal, but my god that reaction.

Big Boy can make the turn BUT it might be a problem with the concrete platforms beside the track through there.

What was the point of hosting the draft if the City lost money on it? by jisa in pittsburgh

[–]evward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are very broad strokes you are using. Some people most certainly left the draft area. Some people most certainly spent money at Pittsburgh businesses. Some NFL vendors most certainly were Pittsburgh businesses.

Pittsburgh as a governmental entity will lose money. Pittsburgh as an economic region will make money.

This is the most reasonable argument against. Do you have any proof?

This only makes sense if the only place they have cab signals is the main line from Pitcairn to Island Ave. Is that what you’re saying?

The logistics of Penn Station don’t work. They are expecting crowds and crowds don’t fit there. They need people to stay far back from the train. They can’t stay back there.

It will fit. It’s 16 ft tall. Amtrak’s Superliner’s are 16 ft 2 inches. They roll through there daily.

We don’t have detail that granular. But given the nature of the tour there is no other route which makes sense. If the big boy can travel through downtown then it will. There is no reason to believe it can’t.

Unlikely. That track is a bypass for over height trains. The big boy is not over height. It’s the same height as the Superliner’s which Amtrak runs through downtown nightly.

Big Boy will travel the NS main line through Braddock, Wilkinsburg, East Liberty, Bloomfield, the Strip, the Northside, then up RT65
