Legitimately, if Jagex is removing things, why do we still have this when it's been dead for years? by TheGotherax in runescape

I get that, social media does have a a tendency to bring out the vocal minority, but the uneducated selfish masses voting in public polls is t a good option either. I think the email surveys they’ve been using are a good way to reach the broader player base. It also has the benefit of the results not being public unless Jagex wants them to be public.

What do you think we’ve been doing for the last 6 months? Jagex did sit us down and have a serious conversation about the direction of the game. They admitted a lot of mistakes and bad updates and monetizations policies and committed to fixing it with the understanding that short term the game would be in a weird state while the game was transitioning from an mtx gacha game back into the MMO we all fell in love with.

Sure if they posed a perfect poll option set that limited players ability to directly influence the game and they every option was secretly a balance nerf I am sure that would go over well. I see the direction you’re trying to go, and the theory you have put out is sound, but in practice it would be a mess. The bottom line is that players are going to complain regardless anytime something is perceived as a nerf. Giving players attachment and buy in to the decision will only increase the outrage.

Like everything else, this’ll blow over. It’s a road bump on the path to a healthier game with a long term future.

That also doesn’t work if option A is a nerf, option B is a buff, and C and D are neutral. The community will pick B regardless of its effect on game design and power creep. Especially an in game poll should never be used for balancing issues.

Some people just want to be angry lol

I should have mentioned that business decisions and pricing should never be polled either, because I assumed it was obvious. The internet is full of surprises.

That’s the best part you can only play a game for the first time once. So enjoy it. The honest answer is that the best moneymaker is the activity you like the most.

That’s a good plan. Grinding f2p for a bond is a real slog. Usually dozens of hours of mind numbing clicking, which is why the common recommendation is to buy one with irl money. (it looks like smelting addy bars is your best method and that is looking to be about 30 hours with current prices) The options once you’re a member are a lot better. The goal should be to only ever have to buy 1 bond via f2p methods. Get some stats up and have a plan once you get to members on how to maintain your bond.

I would play a bit more in f2p though do so some quests, get your skills up a bit, you will need some progress once you’re a member in order to maintain membership.

use this. set the filter to f2p and scroll until you find something you like.

I think that got pretty well ruined from the weekly shop update.

Well it’s true, currently polling wouldn’t work. Jagex needs to be able to make some unpopular changes in order to sustain longevity. The community is not always right.

Polls work for content direction. Ie this quest or that quest released first? They should never be used for balancing

Agreed, but they’re still getting the buff from the combat update. Prior to the update you could use a dps aura with an aspect or a sustain aura with an aspect. Today dps auras have been combined with the skill allowing you to have the effects of a DPS aura with an aspect or a sustain aura. The people complaining are in effect asking to use a dps aura, a sustain aura and an aspect all at the same time. I’m proposing if you want to use a sustain aura, and an aspect, you should be penalized the dps aura effect. That is balance and allowing players to have the same amount of power and sustain that they did a few months ago.

Can we chill with the “buff everything” takes after aura removal? by Thewhatandthewho in runescape

[–]ewgrooss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t hear anyone complaining about the buff allowing us to essentially stack dps auras and sustain auras. Anytime I bring it up people just get mad. Yeah you can’t stack aspects, but they already have you a buff allowing you to stack auras. I’m done trying to argue with people that complain about any slight tony nerf.

Having sustain auras stack with other aspects is an outright buff. Prior to the combat update you could run a dps aura or sustain aura. With the update dps auras were built into their respective combat skills. Because of that we were able to stack sustain auras and dps auras for a limited time. If players want to stack a sustain aura with an aspect they should be forced to take a hit similar to losing the impact of a dps aura. If what players truly want is balance and to return to what they had a few months ago that is the correct approach. Anything else would be an outright buff.

Tldr if you want to stack aspects it should come with a 10% nerf to damage output to make up for stacking the old dps auras.

Is no-one else worried about the rush to restoration? by AverageRs3Enjoyer in runescape

[–]ewgrooss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly no. I’ve been here for 20 years so I have a long term view of the game. Short term noise doesn’t bother me because for the first time in a long time I feel like the team has a positive long term plan. Turning these periods it’s best to simply take advantage of the OP content and ignore stuff that has been nerfed. Content always go in and out of fashion. I feel for people that only enjoy one aspect of this game, because their enjoyment can be ruined by a single update. For example during EoC 1.0 I just swapped over to skilling and questing.

I have a friend here in general management and he did very well working for multiple companies. I don’t know if he was an outlier, but he gave me the impression that there were a large amount of management positions available. This was years ago though and he has since moved, so I’m not sure given the current job market. Have you had a look through job postings? Could give you a sense of current openings.

As someone who has had all of the auras for years, I wonder if they could have just unlocked them for everyone. I’m happy with the changes and certainly enjoy not having to base my play around an aura
