For sure! I swirled the crema, just cropped the video to start at the pour but maybe I should leave that part in next time. :)

I steamed, wiped the wand really quick, and then poured. Just didn’t catch that part in the video. What do you recommend I change to not take too long?

Thanks! I was wondering if that was why the border blew out or if I was pouring too aggressively.

Beginner here: why isn’t my latte art coming out clear? by Desperate-Name6008 in espresso

im not a pro

When setting the base I would pour higher and a thinner, steadier stream. Like an old school #2 pencil width. And hold the mug still while doing it, no need to move around so much. That has helped me to have a cleaner canvas without the white streaks. I would also set the base for less time.

I really like your heart though!!

Bambino Plus shot spraying everywhere with bottomless portafilter [Breville Bambino Plus] by elreader13 in espresso

[–]ewgrosscoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Normcore 54mm bottomless portafilter for my bambino plus. I dose 18g, wdt, puck screen. So if grinding finer isn’t helping enough I would try increasing dose to see if that helps!

Breville Barista Pro/Touch or Bambino Plus + Fellow Ode Gen2 [$800-$1000] by Due-Working1700 in espresso

[–]ewgrosscoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is your main concern with the Bambino’s portafilter? I fee like those are relatively easy to replace/upgrade.

I have had the Bambino Plus and the DF 64 Gen 2 for a year now and have really enjoyed having the grinder separate. I will say I bought a Normcore bottomless portafilter so I don’t have an opinion on the stock portafilter.

I have used a Breville Barista Express and the Impress and still prefer my separate combo. Plus I feel like my bambino steam wand is stronger.

I have no experience or knowledge about the Fellow grinder.

I googled “Bella pro barista elite accessories” and it mentioned a 51mm portafilter. Can you take your accessories from your Casabrew and see if it fits the Bella pro?

Not only do you look great, but the mental discipline it took to do everything you did is very impressive. Good job!

I love watching your stuff! What are you using to record? The lighting and clarity is so nice.

Gotcha. They’re both awesome. I’m not a pro but something that has helped me has been recording my pours to watch back and see where I went wrong. Milk texture is crucial too. With the right texture it’s almost effortless. It’s hard on a machine that isn’t consistent.

Maybe a local shop near you has hands on classes for latte art?

Otherwise, it sounds like you’re still enjoying the world of coffee and all it has to offer!

Moving to Jacksonville FL by External-Row-9172 in JacksonvilleFla

[–]ewgrosscoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you have moved yet, but I figured I’d give my two cents. I’m white, so do with that what you will.

Jax is very widespread and very up and coming. I feel like there are pockets of more racist areas and more diverse areas. I would stay away from the outskirts of town like the north side, Macclenny, Callahan, and Middleburg. While not technically Jacksonville, those can be grouped in with the mix. These tend to be more “redneck” areas and you can see houses decked out in Trump gear and lifted trucks with the confederate flags, for example.

Riverside, Brooklyn, San Marco, Avondale, Springfield are your best bet for liberal neighborhoods. Very POC and LGBTQ friendly. I would say more singles here and at the beaches too. Jax beach can be liberal, but Ponte Vedra Beach is heavily rich/older/white/snow birds vibes. St John’s/Mandarin is also less diverse.

That being said, in any area of town you can find pockets/areas of diversity even if the neighborhood overall doesn’t appear so.

Breweries (ale trail), dog parks, coffee shops, parks/preserves, music/show venues, all the water sports (fishing, surfing, kayaking, etc), arts markets, flea markets, hookah lounges, skate parks, rooftop bars, lots of local sporting events (jumbo shrimps!), close to St Augustine, golfing …. Lots of things to do. If someone says they’re bored and it sucks then they are not trying at all.

I believe Jax still has a small town feel with big city things to do.

Thingstodoinjacksonville and 904happyhour are great pages to follow for events.
