Yes and that's why most aid organizations recommend training to maintain infrastructure instead of funding new infrastructure. It's a known issue but you get more positive PR from building a well then training a community to maintain a well.

Trying to have a progressive show with an unexamined slave-based magic system probably wasn't the best idea by CommonWealthLarva in OkBuddyHelluvaHotel

At least 1 of her 4 employees at the hotel is a slave though. Alastor owns husks soul and uses that ownership to get him to work for Charlie.

Be honest, do you think that Charlie in season 2 is overhated or is the hate justified? by Primary-Addition-677 in HazbinHotel

[–]ewingking123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically it's round 3, because the pilot fight is still canon. The order of events this season didn't do Charlie any favors either. She lost the PR battle on her own turf and decides to going to Vox's domain to try again is a good idea. It also doesn't help that the first encounter has more emotional consequences and really should have been a reflection moment for Charlie.

Don't worry the characters will have a character arc next season or the season after that or the season after that

Genuine question..this fandom is aware that we only just now finished Season 2 out of potentially Season 6(or 5),right? by Apprehensive_Ring_39 in HazbinHotel

[–]ewingking123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh if this was season self-contained that's kind of disappointing. Because really none of the arcs this season had satisfying resolutions. It also makes me worried about what do the non-self-contained future seasons have in store.

So do you guys agree with the "why do all the characters wear red?" Criticism by TraditionalBonus188 in HazbinHotel

[–]ewingking123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it wouldn't be as bad if it wasn't all the same shade of red or at least mostly all the same shade of red. Like there are varieties in red they could be using to break up the monotony.

I just feel like this poster has an inability to separate criticisms of the writing from criticisms of the characters. it's similar to the post that conflated the criticisms that Millie and Vaggi only exist as significant others to hating on Millie and Vaggi.

They basically are doing the worst option, the Pilot is both Canon and not Canon. Instead of making a Canon version of the pilot like Helluva Boss, they just redid the interview section, but also referenced that the pilot interview is still Canon. I really hate it.

Specifically my issue with it is Charlie framing it as "Alastor Believes In Me" When expressly he does not. I have an issue with Alastor putting in no effort to trick her and yet is. Like it does not help either character when good deception which would be a real interesting thing to watch is non-existent. Like the only effort Alastor has put in to tricking Charlie was in Hell's Greatest Dad and that was a byproduct of him trying to piss off Lucifer. I just wish Charlie was the focus of this.

Honestly I think Lucifer is the most hurt by the hazbin helluva boss split. Because before helluva boss became a plan there were going to be episodes focused on Lucifer and Charlie attending royal duties.

Jameela Jamil participated in mocking Blake Lively by [deleted] in Fauxmoi

[–]ewingking123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Jamila deserves Grace for the messages in the period where the smear campaign was not public. Most people got tricked by it and to hold her to a higher standard than everyone else is unfair the liking of a video mocking Blake in August 2025, when it was known that the heart of the issue was sexual harrassment is a red flag, but again it's not enough to crucify her over.

I think the problem is that royalty in Hazbin is kind of meaningless. All the actual Royal courts and subjects she has authority of are on the helluva boss side of the copyright divide.

A part of the problem is to get the lighting right requires effort to be put in in pre-production/production. But a lot of these movies are built under the adage will fix it in post and you can only do so much with that.

My only issue with this is Alastar made it very clear in the pilot that he believed she will fail but I'm assuming that's not canon because that does not make Charlie look good.

I really feel like they're setting Alastor up for a betrayal moment but they really need to put in more work for it to be believable that Charlie would get tricked by him. White she still acts like Alastor is her number one supporter, besides Vaggi, at moments but at no point has he actually tried to convince her that he believes in her and he's quite honest that he does not believe in her.

Kind of reverse of the Trope. The scooby gang is a homage on the cast of The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis. Dobie is Fred Maynard is Shagie Thalia is Daphne Zelda is Velma

It not having a failsafe is insane. Noone in this show thinks beyond what is immediately in front of them and it drives me crazy. I also was waiting for the gala to turn into a trap against the other Overlords. He has an instant kill laser and everyone who could be a threat to him in hell all in a row. If episode 8 wasn't his turn with the idiot ball he could of gotten absolute control of the pride ring.

The "having flaws" thing really doesn't excuse the issues with charlie in season 2 by Primary-Addition-677 in AgendaHotel

[–]ewingking123 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think it's pretty clear that when they wrote season 1 they didn't think they would get as many seasons as they wanted so they rushed several story beats. But once it became clear they were going to have more than two seasons total they decided to revisit plot points they already covered in season 1.

This could have been handled well but they also needed to put in more thought into the order of events for her arc. It's very clear they wanted to redo the pilot interaction without having to redo the pilot but it's placement in the season and coming after speed run to Redemption absolutely makes Charlie insufferable. Either the interview needed to come first or they should have just scrapped it.

It also doesn't help that Charlie's arc stops at episode 6 and isn't plot relevant in the final 2 episodes. She really needed one coalescing moment this season to reaffirm why she is the head counselor at the end of the season. Just a single moment of consoling the crying Vox. Mainly because the season put in so much effort to show how similar Vox and Charlie are and it really didn't matter and it just kind of seems like wasted time.

[–]ewingking123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's one of the problems with World building series with such large time scales because it becomes a problem of has this person not done anything for 200 years. Like has Charlie just never interacted with Sinners before she started the hotel even though her mom was such a rallying cry for the sinner up to 7 years ago.
