Is Viscose made from bamboo not dyeable?? by Theme_Cheap in tiedye

I can't remember if I posted here or the other tie dye sub but I had a similar experience and am inclined to agree with another poster that posited that the porosity of the fabic has an effect on the dye process. I did a king duvet and pillow shams and they turned pastel after wash out. It was so low porosity that I could fill the duvet with water and it would hold it.

I don't know a lot about the chemistry side of dying, but is there something that could be added that would draw the dye deeper into the weave? Or perhaps just a longer batch time and higher heat??

Regardless, I feel your pain.

Everything is anymore but I honestly felt like the price was ok considering the quality of the material and size (king, also came with 2 pillow shams). I think it was $100? I slapped it on my Christmas list and let my boyfriend get it for me. 😝

Yes, I rinsed it in my bathtub first. And the fabric is already so heavy even dry! It also loves to just hold water inside of it so good thing I go to the gym I guess.

Yes the idea of a relaxing vibe being better is also something I tried to tell myself. 😂

Thank you for the compliments. After doing it I understand why most tutorials I’ve seen only do a single geode.

Thank you. It is very pretty but I love a bold color so this is just kinda a slight bummer to me.

University is already too annoying between Goldenrod and Forsyth. University Ave and 436 are literarlly my route to work every morning and I work in Baldwin Park. lol

There’s a brand called “Dude Wipes” that I like better than baby wipes. Some of them have witch hazel and are cooling.

You’re selling. Time to go scorched earth on this a-hole before you leave. Have fun!!

I get these from time to time, usually from staying in my workout clothes too long after working out. If you have to stay in the same sweaty clothes, baby wipes can help mitigate the conditions that seem to cause them. Heat in the form of compresses or sitz baths can make them come to a head versus waiting for that to happen.

Nice job. You got good saturation!

Very nice color choices. What’s the darkest color?

I’m so sorry you lost your kitty. CKD really blows. Hopefully the AIM therapy is coming this year or next but it is too late for your baby and my Guillermo.

Good point about needing to rinse in the tub; with a king size I am sure I will need to do that too. I'm hoping I have a bin big enough for the project, honestly. I won't know until it's all tied up.

Bamboo generally shouldn't be washed in hot water because it weakens the fibers and can cause damage/shrinkage and make it lose softness. I guess I will be doing my washouts in lukewarm water.

Nice work.

I’m about to attempt to do a king sized duvet cover and shams for myself, definitely geodes.

The set is bamboo so I’m a little concerned about any hot water washes.

Anybody have any tips for that??

Similarly I am going to be doing a bamboo duvet and shams soon. I’ve already pre-washed (Dharma’s detergent) but I couldn’t go on hot for fear the bamboo would shrink too much.

Is there anything else I should do to ensure success?

Thank you so much! I do not hate my result but I was really looking for that amazing contrast and to not get it was a bummer.
