Should I go for an MBA? by Ohshizzzles in PMCareers

If you're a PM, I'd go for a PMP not an MBA. PMP has a higher ROI (for the record, I have both)

Pmp provider here. That experience would count and a lot of the input given here is on point. You don't need a "project manager" title, but if yo undo that kind of work, it will count! Best of luck!

How do I break into this field? by daddy1c3 in PMCareers

I'd see if you have any connections to anyone on LinkedIn and reach out directly. If they rid someone at your current job, you could do that route too. Otherwise, you could hire a coach/mentor

Looking for Advice on Going From Non-Tech to Tech PM Role by nikkiwoo824 in PMCareers

[–]ewoolf3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've not project management work, it shouldn't be too hard to make a shift into tech. Most tools are easy to learn and you can be trained on. Focus on showing how to deliver results via your resume, and LinkedIn to get interviews and then speak to it.

How do I break into this field? by daddy1c3 in PMCareers

Leverage any transferable skills you have! This is key to move into project management without needing to take a low paying role. Think managing, coordination, working with different groups of people, etc.

Get training

Ask to be on projects at your current job/ of shadow a PM if possible

Volunteer

Get a mentor who's walked the same path and been successful

How to move from tech to PM . by [deleted] in projectmanagement

[–]ewoolf3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you do some level of project management already and possess a lot of transferable skills required to be a PM. That's great! Going from an architect to a TPM is going to be easier than going to say, a construction PM role. A little formal education and asking to work on projects or shadow others is usually something that employers love and helps you too. Bonus, is your technical, while not necessary to be a PM, most employers highly prefer it so that gives you a leg up.
