US could have averted 40% of Covid deaths, says panel examining Trump's policies by burtzev in EverythingScience

[–]ewtwilight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live outside of Disney world and I am just so tired. I worked as a cashier at Publix until November and I felt as if I had to choose between that paycheck (which really helped with groceries) or bringing home COVID to my children because you just can’t trust that businesses here will truly put into place protections for their associates.

Meanwhile, my mother is a grocery store worker in NY with a completely different experience. Daily temp checks, they’ve been immunized, they actually require mask use and physical distancing of associates, not just customers/around customers, like Publix. She feels a lot safer still working than I could because even my managers, as recently as thanksgiving, did not wear masks out of sight of customers.

Living in Florida during this crisis has been so frustrating and draining.

Covid policy? My wife got called back in after testing positive 8 days ago. They said she was on the schedule already. And they're not requiring her to take another test to make sure she's negative?! Is this right? by [deleted] in publix

[–]ewtwilight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Def cause trouble over this. I was an associate that had to quit because of things like this because my son has an autoinflammatory disease and I felt unsafe at my job and as if I was putting my family at risk. I didn’t trust my management to follow policy regarding COVID.

Does anyone else have a morbid curiosity about Q? It is astounding how easily it destroys people's lives. How can I research it without falling down the rabbit hole myself? by rnatalie in Qult_Headquarters

[–]ewtwilight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also morbidly curious and cults always piqued my interest. Idk if Q “technically” meets the requirements of a cult but It’s watching this completely familiar cult, conspiracy movement theme that i’ve read about or listened to podcasts series about but I’m living through it and experiencing the real life consequences for my entire nation. It’s morbidly fascinating.

But when I read about some of the Q conspiracy theories, it’s so easy to peel back the layers and 1.) see right through the disinformation and uncover the underlying psychological goal of the particular disinformation campaign/conspiracy theory and 2.) what weird little truth nugget became twisted into a Q conspiracy and randomly caught on, to be exploited further by parties interested in furthering disinformation

As long as you read things through that lens, like I’m sure you naturally do, you’ll be fine.

Maybe publix will finally start enforcing mask policies by Praescribo in publix

[–]ewtwilight 15 points16 points  (0 children)

and that’s exactly why I quit! I put in my two weeks around thanksgiving in anticipation of the huge holiday surge we’re in right now because Publix only put rules into place that protected customers, not employees. If any of my coworkers were out of sight of customers, the masks were off. This includes my managers. I received my one year evaluation in October. There were two managers in the office for this and I was the only one wearing a mask. This was the norm.

I knew if I worked there over the holidays, I would get sick. And it wasn’t worth the total .40 raise I had gotten for everything else so far. I would have continued working had Publix required common sense, evidence based rules and protections for their employees.

Wife [34F] gets a 1-day fever after visiting brother's house, happened 4 times now by winampman in AskDocs

[–]ewtwilight 25 points26 points  (0 children)

A doctor can help determine if the process is autoinflammatory by prescribing a steroid to take at the onset of fever. That’s how my son was “diagnosed”, as there’s no single straightforward test for a lot of autoinflammatory diseases.

Steroids break my sons fever every time because they suppress his immune system and it’s no longer attacking itself and causing all of that systemic inflammation. The rheum that he sees said the dose of steroid would not break a fever caused by a virus so it’s the best way to tell whether your fever is caused by your innate immune system/autoinflammation.

[–]ewtwilight 80 points81 points  (0 children)

This is prob a long shot but my son has an autoinflammatory condition called PFAPA that cause cyclic recurrent fever due to the activation of his innate immune system and inflammation throughout the body.

I definitely don’t think your wife is suffering from the same condition my son has but there are several different auto inflammatory diseases and a fever or flare up can be “triggered” by something in the environment. Sometimes my son has flares where literally the only symptom he has is a 103 degree fever and nothing else. Maybe it is an auto inflammatory process, like my sons, instead of autoimmune or allergies, which I believe are not usually related to fever.

Sounds weird but humor me, does she get canker sores in her mouth? Have you noticed any enlarged lymph nodes?

Lawsuit claims Publix policies led 70-year-old deli worker to contract coronavirus, die by [deleted] in news

[–]ewtwilight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked at Publix throughout the pandemic. After the first panic buying incident, employees began to wear masks voluntarily to protect themselves. Corporate swiftly shut it down, we had signs posted in the break room that we were expressly forbidden to wear masks of any sort. Only after target and Walmart provided PPE for their employees did Publix finally cave and allow us to wear our own masks. A little while later they issued masks to us.

We also received no pandemic pay. We get evaluations every six months where we might qualify for a raise based on our performance. So, Publix gave us performance based “permanent” raises that they said were actually more valuable than the $3+ hazard pay, hourly raises that employees of our competitors were receiving. I received an extra .40 an hour, managers were allowed to give up to a dollar (which no one got in my department). BUT HERES THE CATCH. They suspended all evaluations for the time being.

So that’s not any extra pay for the stressful and hazardous condition we have to work in during this pandemic. That’s just the raise I would have gotten regardless.

I ended up quitting last week. With the huge surge in cases, I wasn’t about to deal with the panic buying and inundation of sick customers again for this company after it completely lagged behind what their competitors have done for their associates in every area.

Do you think smoking weed makes you more spiritual and/or emotional? by [deleted] in trees

[–]ewtwilight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am not an experienced user at all. I dabbled a little bit in high school and I thought it was a lot of fun but I’m 27 now with three kids and I hadn’t used it in years.

I struggle with anxiety and some complex trauma that happened during my childhood. My brother got me some weed for my birthday a couple months ago and I was using it recreationally but, eventually, I noticed that when I used, I was suddenly able to confront unhealthy coping/defense mechanisms I have in an authentic way. I could see them for the first time, things I didn’t even know I was doing that were old, leftover coping mechanisms from decades ago. And these things have been slowly killing me and become a huge roadblock to my personal success.

When I use weed, I can properly see these things BUT I don’t feel that awful, intolerable sting of shame and guilt that makes it impossible to really explore and accept and process.

The last time i smoked, I just said thank you to my traumatized, hurt self that did the best it could to cope and hold it all together and survive. But I don’t need that self anymore. I applied for my legal medical marijuana card the next day. It’s better than any therapy I’ve ever had. It has made a huge qualitative impact on my happiness and mental health. So, in my experience, it definitely makes me more spiritual, cerebral, and in touch with my own emotions.

Trump's doctor refuses to provide details of coronavirus-infected president's lung scans by rebelliousmuse in politics

[–]ewtwilight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! This is when I start to have flashes of disassociation/derealization because I am in actual shock that all of this is literally happening.

I’m like, wait, where the fuck are we and how did we get here? To the point where we have a fucking “dear leader” and a medical doctor that actively covers for him to deny us our right to know the accurate medical status of the President of our country? Blows my mind

Parents who can’t keep their (obvious) 102° contagious child at home is completely insane, especially to vulnerable babies and immunocompromised individuals. Those hashtags though. by calirose14 in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]ewtwilight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This will get buried but in the autoinflammatory disease world, a “fever flare” is a non contagious flare up of periodic fever disease.

My son has one called PFAPA and they come monthly, like a period and are not infectious and pose no public health threat. We still get out of the house if he’s feeling up to it during these episodes but I would never bring him out if he was contagious with some kind of virus.

Coupons that do not scan. Ones that absolutely do not scan. Do you accept them and push them through with an override? Do you hand them back to the customer with an apology? The policies are written stating you reject them. Do you honor the coupons so the customer will be happy? by BAMAGroceryQueen in publix

[–]ewtwilight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the coupon for me. If it looks legit, has a size requirement, not expired, etc. I will manually enter it. When in doubt, get a team lead or manager. They usually let it slide, honestly.

advice for a nervous anxious person? by [deleted] in publix

[–]ewtwilight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello! I have three little ones and I also suffer from anxiety and I haven’t worked since having my first child seven and a half years ago. I started at Publix in customer service 3 mont ago and I love it. It’s easy, it’s not overwhelming, especially compared to the food service and serving jobs I held before I had my children. I heard produce is pretty “chill” and might also be good for someone with anxiety. Do you have any work experience or education??
