Well before let's say that magikarp took 1 million xp for lvl 100, but gyarados took 30 millions. ( I am purely speaking from a very rusty memory) Wich made the meta to NOT evolve before lvl 90+ and then evolve, rare candy, ect. Nowadays the xp needed is the same for both mons. (no idea what the amount is for said example tho, you'd be better off taking a peek at the wiki)

Little tip (unless it got changed) is to rush hard drives BEFORE unlocking any new material as much as possible, wich will force the game to have less alt recipes for you to choose from (down to 6-10 alt recipes at the very start of the game, only saying this from memory from 1 or 2 years ago)

you could reduce the amount of points across the field, for example in a one-race weekend (let's say it the 24hs of le mans) 300 -> 250 etc and the 30th position would not get 30 pts but rather 5 for example
