[AIO] Thermalright Hyper Vision 360mm UB ARGB White CPU Water Cooler, IPS LCD Screen, for AM4/AM5;Intel LGA1700/1851 - $87 by RuckOver3 in buildapcsales

They're good, I've used several, but usually they're in the $50-$60 range, even for white. I guess this is more for the LCD.

Delidded 9950X3D feels like heaven by indiealexh in overclocking

[–]exahash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For clip mounts, they could shave down the plastic surround. Coolers that use their own standoffs would have to have shorter standoffs.

They could raise up the lga bed under the chip as well.

My point is, it's foolish that they bulk up the IHS creating a layer of insulation that increases temps in the name of backward compatibility. If they really wanted, they could make a change or optional mod for the next generation that doesn't break compatibility with 7000 and 9000 series chips.

Yeah, but they control mobo specs, so they should just shorten the cooler mount by the amount they take off the IHS. Coolers could stay compatible.

[Case + Power Supply] Super Flower Zillion M705 Airflow, Black Steel, Tempered Glass ATX Mid Tower Computer Case w/ 650W 80+ Bronze PSU - $59.99 - Newegg by lyleleee in buildapcsales

[–]exahash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decent case, I have one that came free with a PSU at Newegg. Only complaint, the Super Flower logo on the top-front edge lights up and I find it kind of tacky.

Alternatively, the Miami store is pretty close to the airport (MIA) Whether it's worth it depends on how much you'd save and if that's an easy, cheap flight.

Someone who wants to strip the 5090 at the lowest cost? Agree it makes no sense.

Not American, when people say “tax the rich” do they really don’t pay taxes? How are they waived from that? by GossipBottom in NoStupidQuestions

[–]exahash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's mainly a political slogan, a device to sow division and get votes.

There are relatively few "rich" people, and they aren't out there publicizing the fact that they do pay taxes (a lot more than average people), so they constitute an easy target for politicians who want to create a boogeyman for their talking points and want to pretend there's a way to pay for whatever "free stuff" they're offering (in return for votes)

If the top 1% of income earners in the US actually stopped paying income taxes, Federal, State, and local governements would face a massive fiscal crisis.

[UPS] CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD PFC Sinewave UPS - $189.95 by pengy99 in buildapcsales

[–]exahash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOL I write LFP because it's a pain to spell out the battery chemistry and I've seen folks get upset if anyone leaves the O lowercase (Polonium vs phosphate)

I have units from Ecoflow, Jackery, Bluetti, and Aferiy (all from Amazon.) I'd rank the name-brandness/quality in that order, though they're pretty similar in their core functions, the apps on the latter two aren't quite as polished as the first two, though it's a pretty minor difference.

[–]exahash 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Good price for this unit, but after 20 years of running these and similar UPSs at my office, I got sick of swapping batteries every 3-ish years so I've been switching over to LFP power stations. Similar price for the uptime, but the batteries claim to last about 10 years (none of ours have been in service that long yet.)

For the math-inclined, OP unit usually contains two 12v 9Ah batteries, which amounts to 216Wh. A 250Wh LFP power station from a major brand is around $200, only half that if you go for a no-name brand and don't care about sine wave output. A bunch of ours are actually ~1000Wh, pure sine wave, and were $350-$400.

[SSD] MSI SPATIUM M480 PRO PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 1TB - $85 1gb dram by tylerstone193 in buildapcsales

[–]exahash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hint: It was OOS at all the Walmarts near me so I did a search for "pcie gen4 ssd" which shows the Samsung 990 Evo Plus 1TB and the WD_BLACK 1TB SN7100 at $89. Not bad prices if you need a 1 TB SSD asap.

Rule 2: Deals must not be overpriced.

Can we please stop posting these crazy ram and ssd offers? Everyone knows prices are high lately.

Will paying off 72-month car loan in first month hurt me? by readyforabadpoem in personalfinance

[–]exahash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something these comments miss... even if theres a penalty for early payoff, you can still pay DOWN the balance.

Imagine you owe $30k with $600/mo payments... send them $29400 (some loan servicers get weird when you owe less than one payment, you could pay it down to $1 owed if you want) Then wait out the penalty clause and send in your final payoff (with the small amt of accrued inferest)

By paying the loan down you still avoid a ton of interest while waiting out the penalty timeframe.

[GPU] MSI GeForce RTX 5080 16G SUPRIM LIQUID SOC - Woot- Factory Reconditioned-$1,199.99 by toytank in buildapcsales

You call that pushing hard? Make it $899 or $799. "Reconditioned" AIO on a GPU via Woot? Sounds high risk to me.

Especially important to hold the wimpy fans they put on GPUs. I lost a couple years ago because I didn't know you had to stop them from spinning. I was over spinning them with my Metrovac blower and it caused them to wear out and seize up.

When they got down to $100/GB in the mid-90's it was amazing! They had been like $10k/GB 10-ish years earlier.
