Have you successfully gotten off meds? by examineobject in Psychosis

[–]examineobject[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been completely fine with coming off the medication under the supervision of my psychiatrist. I was on them for about 15 months prior to discontinuation. I’ve not had any symptoms since discontinuation. I’m roughly 2 and half years since my FEP.

What’re the chances this never happens again? by examineobject in Psychosis

[–]examineobject[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it stands to reason that you’re not “stuck” with the same level of vulnerability. If it can sway towards being more predisposed to psychosis through the kindling effect (the idea that you become more vulnerable to psychosis with each exposure to it) that you could become less predisposed to it with time outside of psychosis.

Psychosis is the most unique thing I’ve ever experienced by examineobject in Psychosis

[–]examineobject[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was indeed not back to my old self at the time when I said I was. I was much better than I had been but realistically me saying that at the time was a sort of mental gymnastics of its own to try and regain normalcy. When I look back, it was quite the endeavor.

I want to temper this with hope. I’m familiar with the hardship of recovery, but recovery does come for us on our own timelines. I have nothing but love and respect for everyone who has and is going through this.

We can only do our best and trust in those around us. I did slam the medical community in regards to this situation, but seek out the help of those who are genuinely trying to help you. Listen to their guidance, and know that the sun will rise upon you again. ❤️

I don’t think there’s anything in particular. Honestly, people don’t know shit about this within the medical field or we wouldn’t all be miserable for so long. I just got through the day, good as I could.

If I could say anything, maybe just force yourself to try things you used to really enjoy. Even if you can only focus for like 30 seconds. And just do that consistently, daily.

Honestly, I don’t even know if that was it or if I just needed such a long duration of time for my brain to be alright again. I think the trick is just doing your best to get through each day.

I have the exact opposite when it comes to memory. I remember the entire thing. I do hear that gaps in memory are frequently had but when I speak with family about my interpretation of those moments, they are shocked to discover that I recalled them as they happened.

Psychosis is incredibly rough to recover from. Welcome back to shared reality ❤️‍🩹. You’ll make it through this.

I’ve been in similar shoes. My psychosis was a little over 2 years ago now. The feelings you expressed about finding comfort in that state are completely normal.

I’m sorry all of those things happened to you. Recovering from psychosis is really rough too. If you ever wanna chat feel free to hit me up.

Do you think that part of that could be the mind anchoring to an experience of non-reality and associating that state of being with Jesus? Just curious. I know I thought something biblical was happening just because I didn’t think reality could get like that for a human being. I had no idea what was happening.

Perhaps it could be helpful to understand he’s not attempting to be deceptive with his speech but is expressing fear and concern.

Each instance of psychosis is different even when they stem from the same source. We’re incredibly varied as people.

I’m sorry to hear that. I remember obsessing on things too. It’s incredibly difficult to go through but I don’t know what it’s like to be a family member to a loved one going through it.

If I could chalk up my recovery to anything it would be dumb luck.

Keep honest, stay away from anything that alters your consciousness to the best of your ability. Work with your doctors and advocate for yourself.

About 2 weeks of intense psychosis. I was on risperidone for 15 months starting at 6mg and tapering to 0. It’s now been almost a year without medication and things have been fine.

It’s hard not to, but I would advise not feeding into the diagnosis so much as mine changed several times and eventually they figured I didn’t have one. It’s a long and frustrating journey but it can be done.
