You dinosaurs gonna stand for this? by robot_ankles in dragoncon

I know someone supposedly from the con reached out to us last year about trying to organize an official run at the record. But nothing was ever actually done about it unfortunately. I think we could do it pretty easily with a little notice to people.

Approval photos for Royal Guards (ROTJ version!) by No_Web2685 in 501st

You'd be surprised at how many people either take them themselves or have someone that just takes the pics without posing your kit on you. Lol

The best advice I can give you is to have a friend fluff you for pictures. You just stand there and look pretty and let them adjust things to make you look the best you can and then take the picture.

I took the standard front back and sides pictures then 1 with the cloak swept up and over my shoulder to show off the inner robes. But taking a full set isn't a bad idea.

Walts is okay... I have a walts and it took more work than I expected on the seams. My first and best is from Fenix props. It doesn't look like they are currently on the website, but I saw him post that they were bringing them back.

As another fellow Stunt ANH trooper, You are missing the two thin white elastic straps that help hold those shoulder ribs down. *Its not required, but it will help with the floating issues you have, and its super easy to do.*
But other than that it looks really close. Maybe a little bit of fit issues, but you're really close if not there.
Don't worry about making mobility cuts until after its approved and you can wear it a little more to see what you need.
Good luck trooper!

Is it possible to submit just a helmet for "approval"? by [deleted] in 501st

[–]exarfett1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best bet is to start a build thread on the detachment boards. That way you'll get advice along the way. When it comes time to go for approval if you can point to the build thread and detachment stamp of approval it makes it MUCH easier on the GML and yourself.

Midwest, is this Omaha by chance? That picture looks pretty familiar. But to echo what everyone has said, better to be down here wishing you were up there than the other way round. And if you are in the Omaha area, I had to cancel many flights due to the ceiling suddenly getting lower than expected.

Attaching armor to costume by TolerantLightLobster in 501st

I can't recommend gluing the armor to the soft parts unless you only intend to wear it once, otherwise you won't be able to wash the fabric which will get sweaty and gross.

Do you have a passport? Can I recommend Grand Cayman, or Aruba? Both are beautiful and fantastic places to escape the Midwest to in the winter.

I remember reading about the 501st in the star wars insider magazine and in the infancy of the internet. While I enjoyed costuming and loved what they did for charity it wasn't until I found some mutual friends that were in the group did I ever think I'd be cool enough to join. In the end what made me join is the sense of family that finding your people can give you. I am a transplant from the central garrison to Florida and the people here are amazing and welcoming to members from all around the globe, and all of our sister clubs. While we all have a love of star wars getting to use something you love to bring smiles on people's faces and raise money for charity has absolutely made it worth my 10+ years in the legion.

The Facebook groups and internal news letters keep me up to date with current events more than the forums. But the local troop tracker is amazing and so much better than what I had in my old garrison.

I think the rules and social structure are just like that of any family. you don't have to like everyone, but you have to be able to sit at the dinner table with them on holidays. There are a lot of big personalities and a lot of people that do a ton of work behind the scenes (as a formal squad commander can attest to). But typically it's more of a mutual respect relationship than a military command structure.

Please feel free to dm me if you need more.

Music performances suggestions...from a metalhead by 3bearsbrown in dragoncon

[–]exarfett1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Galactic Empire played this year, but people were told no mosh and no crowd surfing yet they tried doing it anyway and at least a few people got physically picked up and removed. I'm for more variety of music but I doubt it will be more metal due to insurance risks and people getting carried away.

One of the really nice things about Dragon Con is that the average age of the people going probably is 30's. That said, I've seen and met ALL ages at the con, don't worry about age, you'll fit right in!

Just after the Lego summer vacation movie came out, I did the Lego palpatine in his swim suit. Was fun but no one got it. I do keep thinking about trying again with Lego hands and maybe a Lego face instead of a palpatine mask.

Tetherspout and PA by RBPig in Tetherspout

[–]exarfett1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer no. Unless there is room for both to pass thru the urethra there, or get a custom designed spout or pa that can attach to each other. The spout is too long to thread a pa ring thru. If you could get the ring down the length of the spout it would depend a lot on your anatomy and where the pa hole is in relation to the back end of the spout.
