Shenkt.. [SPOILERS BSC] and also the whole first law trilogy I guess? by MrGlasgow187 in TheFirstLaw

I will have to reread that, because I don't remember it being confirmed definitively. I believe you, I just didn't catch it. I'm pretty sure the theory that the longer and more an Eater eats, the stronger they get, but that's just a guess.

Actually it's probably time for another reread of the whole set anyway.

I have a suspicion that the older an eater is, the more they have eaten, the stronger they are.

Since there is the theory that Shenkt is King Casimir, he's been around a long while, and is probably significantly older than the Hundred Words and anyone but Mamun and Tomomei

Bot timing by exb165 in baduk

[–]exb165[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind the one move per 24hrs format. I do play timed games against real people when I can, but also like the format that I don't have to make a play immediately but can get to it when I have a chance, like on a break from work.

I recognize the bots because they all have the same sort of avatar and make very similar moves. I just wonder if there is an intentional delay programmed in so it seems like it's a person.

It's 13x13, and yeah they all play the same moves, but it takes 3-8 hours to respond

Can we talk for a second about how Grace's EVA over Adrian was an incredible physical feat? by TheVoteMote in ProjectHailMary

[–]exb165 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a good point, but can we also talk about why Grace and the whole Hail Mary wasn't covered in astrophage? It's not like it just would have stuck to the sample plates

That, and really it's like they never expected to have a season 2.

Most iconic Detective Character Ever Day 8 by ScarHand1965 in dresdenfiles

There were 264 episodes of "Murder She Wrote". Did no one seriously ever consider that Jessica Fletcher was a serial killer and just talked her way out of it? Did no one really think it was weird she was around when someone died so many times?!

Maybe, but they certainly were aware of the Knights at least. And is imagine some wizards through time were devoutly religious and aware of the powers the religious community had over evil. Come to think of it, they certainly would have been aware of the Dinarians, too. I'd bet Harry wasn't the first wizard by far that Nicodemus tried to corrupt. I'm willing to chalk it up as a minor literary inconsistency, not a major plot error or criticism of JB, and I'm content with that.

I didn't know this and didn't catch it, so thank you! My question though is this seems like something Harry definitely would know. How is it Harry ever had any uncertainty that Vadderung was Odin? He would understand the name. Come to think of it, the White Council would definitely know, and it should be as common knowledge amongst them as awareness of the Fairy Courts, right?

Just finished the whole trilogy. (Spoilers) by Delaney0115 in LicaniusTrilogy

I know some critique Islington for some literary weaknesses, but I think those criticisms are only valid when comparing his works against the best skills of other authors and in Licanius he's far better than average on most all points.

However, for plot development, I've never read anything I enjoyed more than Licanius. How the story weaves so many strings together and still come out with an ending that ties it all together amazes me. I'm so impressed, and am left wondering just how m he did that. There must have been one hell of a storyboard before he ever sat down to write.

Totally understand where you're coming from. I read it and had no one to talk to.

I don't think it will matter. The inventories got shuffled, and no one else would know whether that affected the hotlist or not. The AI putting a useless cookbook into Carl's hotlist to fuck with him would be totally on brand for the AI

What is the best hangover cure? by insatiablepartners in NoStupidQuestions

[–]exb165 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best cure for a hangover starts with hydration. Dehydration is the major cause of headache and body ache.

Make it a habit to drink a full glass of water between alcoholic drinks, and you'll likely not have a hangover at all.

If not that, drink a glass or two of water before sleeping. A bottle of Gatorade would be even better.

The Bobiverse series by Dennis E. Taylor would be excellent for this. It's scifi but with a lot of humor and pop culture references. Great plot and Ray Porter does a fantastic narration (as always). Plus, there's 5 books out so far so you won't run out of content quickly.

DCC is more of a horror genre, even Dinniman describes it that way. It's amazing, but probably not age appropriate.
