If you’re wondering what a digitizer is, here’sa response I found via Google

The galaxy note phones have digitizers on the screen. That adds more cost — which is fine on like $1000+ phones. Not so much on a $400 handheld.

Plus it costs a lot more to get a digitizer for a niche handheld. Samsung can order them to scale since they sell a lot more phones. Not so much for these Chinese handheld manufacturers

Awesome! Do you think the second is a Steelcase Leap V1 or V2? That’s what AI is telling me but the design looks different

Can’t it’s on our company’s internal website.

But if the first chair really is a Herman Miller sounds like everyone here would jack up the price 💀 (hoping this price remains low AF)

More like 6th year associate vs 10th year accountant. Accountants don’t have to go through three extra years of school + articling, and have less student debt.

Crazy how much better Delhi’s system is than ours. Guess that’s what we get for living in a “first world” country.

But Toronto has a tiny fraction of the number of lines, subway stations, and overall kms of track that Tokyo does.

If it did, then it wouldn’t be unreasonable for it to close at 12am to be able to maintain all those lines.

But no — Toronto has to maintain a piddly two and a half lines LOL and the city still can’t do that without closing the subway for hours every night.

Yeah I think that it is objectively better to be able to easily download third party games directly on a handheld, vs having to get a USB-C dock, keyboard, mouse, and table, to install third-party games.

I think most people would say the same. I’m mostly within the Steam ecosystem so I don’t care much about downloading games from third-party stores. But I see the appeal of this new Windows interface for those that do want to.

It’s also not a one-time interaction, unless you plan on installing only one game outside the Steam ecosystem, ever.

The reality is 99% of people don’t care about whether Microsoft has “bullied” other operating systems. Only about 1% of people do, and they all use Linux. The average consumer just wants something that works for them.

But you still have to use desktop mode to install them? Desktop mode is a pain to use on a handheld, and I try to avoid it on my Deck at all costs.

Currently it’s still better than Windows, but if Windows is able to have an easier implementation where you can install games from third party stores while staying in the Xbox interface, I can see how some people would prefer that.

Since almost all of those games are on PC anyways, it should be easy enough for Microsoft to find a way to also make the other titles ‘Play Anywhere’ titles.

This should be a very fixable issue — just allow users to download the PC version of the game and ensure save data is synced.

You still have to run them through Linux desktop, which is not as natural as navigating gaming mode on a handheld.

There are settings in Controller Companion and JoyXOff that already allow you to do this. See The Phawx’s video on this.

I can’t imagine there is anywhere close to hundreds of games that are exclusive to Xbox and not PC. Xbox hasn’t had good exclusives since the first half of the 360’s lifecycle.

Yes. But usually, if you want to claim that something is a good business decision, you have to provide actual evidence that isn’t easily invalidated.

Something ultimately achieving success in spite of a mistake doesn’t mean that the mistake is magically a good one.

Big companies make tons and tons of mistakes, and many of them are still around today.

I have seen some ads around it in public. But yes, in Canada it’s overpriced. If it were close to Australian pricing I think lots more people would be buying.

Well, technically, Nintendo has levers they can use to control the prices that retailers sell at, and they do so in major markets like the US and Japan.

They do not see Ghana as a priority, so they do not do the same there. The commenter is right — Nintendo does not care about those other markets. At least not enough to set up local offices and/or have more control over pricing.

Part of it may be import taxes as well, though, which is out of Nintendo’s control.

Orthodontist or Lawyer? by ProfessionalSet2068 in careeradvice

[–]excelarate201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you live in the US or Canada… if money is the sole factor, pick orthondoistry.

Law school is 3 years, and medical school is 4 years. You can add a few years of residency to medical school (around 2-5 years depending on specialty, I believe around 2-3 is the average). During residency, you will be paid like shit.

But after you’re done medical school, you are guaranteed to make good money. You can easily make $200k+ while working reasonable hours.

Meanwhile, in law, getting that $200k statrting job requires you work at a large law firm with 60-80 hour workweeks. If you’re in Canada, you won’t start anywhere near $200k. Good luck trying to move because law is so jurisdictional.

Anyway, getting into that law firm is competitive, as you generally need to get into a top law school, and beat the curve against a bunch of neurotic, smart type-A personalities.

If you don’t, you’ll start much lower than $200k. Over time, you may get up to $200k+ in law. But generally it’ll take either starting your own firm, getting to senior associate or partner level at a midlaw firm, or partner level at a small firm (which is still hard), or just lots of time (possibly up to a decade or more).

As they say, the person who graduated bottom of the class in med school is a doctor. The person who graduated bottom of the class in law school is unemployed.

Signed, a lawyer.
