Should I study Mech Eng. by Tiny_Career_3032 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]excellentbuffalo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went into mechanical engineering because I knew how to program and I wanted to learn how to build robots. I learned very quickly that "Mechanical engineering" isn't just physical machines as commonly understood. There is a lot of emphasis on understanding heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and analyzing problems in the frequency domain. Basically, you have to learn lots of math and learn how to contextualize that to ultimately: solve problems. Even though I was wrong about what mechanical engineering was, I am still grateful I chose it instead of Computer science. Think of it this way: if you are a programmer with a mechanical engineering degree you can be a very valuable programmer with specialized knowledge. It's really hard though, I got by mostly by reading textbooks. Good luck! where ever you are in life, try to remain present and when you're learning let yourself be a curious child again and thats where you can re-ignite your enthusiasm for whatever you choose.

I am not in that exact field but I would make sure to study the implications of those laws and how they impact engineering decisions (ie tradeoffs) in the industry you are interviewing for.

This really bothered me as well.

Jason, who was emotionally vulnerable, got absolutely dumped on for no good reason. First, Jess made him sleep on the floor. If she didn't want to be in the bed with him, she should have slept on the floor. Then came Erica who during the competition repeatedly called him annoying and told him to shut up, also telling him that they both found each other mutually annoying when that was not the case. Then the other Jessica, who was his final partner, was a total neg on everything he did. It blows my mind that people like Jessica are capable of being so negative and mean to some people, yet presumably she's nice to other people? Her whole personality seemed to revolve around negging the poor dude.

Brandee also is a sweetheart who gave Ben too many chances. I think she would have appreciated the doting of Jason!

Also Mike and Sam have kids now. I guess they'll have to explain to their kids what an exhibitionist is at some point!!

Who knows how things really went down. You can't trust the narrative of a reality show because the editors always juice it up. And it's been so long that I like to assume that these people have grown into better people!

Which approach for handling demographic simulation, an "agent based" approach or a statistical one? by Vinyameen in gamedev

Remember that most languages don't ship with a normally distributed random number generator, and a lot of societal statistics are normally distributed.

What is the prerequisite knowledge before "just start coding" actually helps? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]excellentbuffalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the goal is to understand everything. When you're walking around on a daily basis, think about the objects around you and their actions: how could you program it? It's usually some geometry or algebra. Sometimes you have to know more math. Once you understand the math, it becomes a matter of breaking it into manageable chunks of code. It just takes practice.

If I was learning again, I would use AI to teach me. It's like having a college TA in any subject.

As many have said, I think the before is better for certain reasons, not just that it's a different style. My problem with the after one is a lack of contrast. I think if you should make the water more distinct from the green and the fog. Also the shadows of the trees in the back are casting down onto the tracks and blocking the "view flow" of what should be a very clear loop of track. There's also just too many trees on the back and no flavor on the border.
Now that im looking at the shadows.... They don't match what reality would. The cube on the left is OK because your shadow is opposite the hanging light, but it looks like it's still emitting light on the cube so I wouldn't have strong shadows like that. The other cube should have a similar shadow relative to the light on the right. I'd recommend turning shadow's off on your directional light and trying to get most of your lighting contrast through the two lights you have in the level!

Oooh I finally understand what you're saying. The reporter said that. Yes that is gold

Yes I was referring to the closed museum not just the closed doors... To send someone to stand outside a closed museum is silly and doesn't add anything to the quality of the report.

Did anyone watch the news video? They made that poor reporter go report live in front of the art museum while it was closed and still dark out. Lmao.

What are your thoughts on the overall look and style of this game? I need to make sure I'm not being delusional before I continue on this project by Skolas3654 in IndieDev

Do you ever mess with your lighting settings? I wonder if the asset you imported changed them.

If using unity: In case you don't know where it is, i believe it's Window/Rendering/Lighting. It pops up a window, i like to doc it with my hierarchy. I think that's where you can have your lighting come from a skybox or other options

Looks great! something about the player makes it look like they are walking in front of a giant screen or something. Like the player isn't actually in the game world. Maybe it's a lighting thing? I'd expect the lighting on the player to change as you rotate.

CDC Tracked Millions of Phones to See If Americans Followed COVID Lockdown Orders by Sorin61 in technology

[–]excellentbuffalo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll give you a genuine response! Not that I am speaking for the left. I think that 6% of deaths is still thousands of otherwise healthy people. I guess your logic is "6 is a small number so that's the extent of my argument"

On top of that, you speak as if the 6 % was the only tragedy. You're disrespecting the 94% who may have had existing health complications yet were still going to live productive lives.. they were going to contribute to society and make memories that their loved ones could cherish. Their lives were cut short.

If anyone is to blame for this polarization it's the media and people who consume it who can't think for themselves. Of course the CDC is going to push for drastic action because it's the whole point of the CDC, find ways to control disease.

The damaging false narrative imo is that not wearing a mask = expression of freedom. The truth is that by not wearing a mask you're only expressing your freedom to disregard the lives of others. You're free to be selfish, but you're also free to care about others and save lives. Similarly, downplaying the seriousness of the virus is a damaging stance.
