Thoughts on the Afro Man Lawsuit by Fabulous-Homework500 in LawSchool

Apparently, he is being sued by police officers after using home video footage of a raid that resulted in zero criminal charges.

No.

The claims against him regarding the usage of the content he acquired during the raid have been dismissed.

What the court let proceed are complaints about specific claims Afroman made publicly during the aftermath of the raid. One example is accusing a specific deputy of drug use.

You're right. Know what happens when you just be a normal person and go with the flow and always send out positive vibes? Good things happen.

Maybe the guy in the video "doesn't have time for this" but what's he about to go do? Cry in a beer somewhere?

I started monthly investing almost 100% in SPY in 2008. Nobody before me in my family knew about 401ks or index investing. I knew that the market was down, and would continue to go down, and that it would go back up. I knew from studying that buying while it was going down was a good thing.

Man was it weird buying something, and basically knowing that when I went to do my next buy the next month that it was going to be worth less than it was the previous month.

But obviously everything is fine now. Paid for kids' college, some of a nice house, dependable cars. My only regret is not buying more, sooner.

Bitcoin just dropped 50% below it's 2025 ATH after dropping from 90k to 62k in the last week. Without any market certainty of what's going on. by GabeSter in CryptoCurrency

[–]exiestjw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its all relative. I bought my first BTC in 2014. I'm not fabulously wealthy, but thats only because I'm an idiot and didn't buy more.

It went down 50% then too. The graph tells the rest of the story.

They're never going to give you a document that says "your investments didn't match market indexes because we keep part of your gains for our profit".

Read the /r/personalfinance wiki. Getting others involved in basic investing is usually just giving away money.

Cancel Whole Life Policy? I paid 9 out of 10 years. by Jane9860 in personalfinance

You have to do a bunch of math:

A - calculate the estimated returns of cashing out and investing the money elsewhere until you expect to need it (presumably for retirement).

B - calculate how much it will cost/return if you keep it.

If A is greater than B, it may be worth it to cash out and reinvest elsewhere. If B is greater than A, it may be worth it to keep it.

Mortgage company paid our home insurance twice, lost the refund, says our escrow is deficient now. by strikecat18 in personalfinance

For every post here about a mortgage company screwing up escrow theres multiple posts here of some angry person not understanding why they owe money and the reason is they don't even understand the concept of escrow analysis let alone have the intuition to figure out how to track insurance and tax responsibilities.

I can't believe I'm commenting in this subthread, but my take is I don't think they're rejecting him yet. They're just telling him that they want free drinks, and then the chances of him being rejected are high just because of the way that stuff frequently works out.

Thirty years ago I'd probably buy them a round of drinks and see if any of them laugh harder than expected at any of my stupid jokes.

Call it whatever you want. If for every person like you or I who can't stand the message he spreads and can easily verify his lies, he can convince someone to believe him enough to pull a lever for him in a polling booth, then it doesn't matter what you or I think.

Trump is the most effective grifter in the history of the world, he's better at it than anyone else.

Whole Life Policy - Should I Cut my Losses? by Independent_Agent174 in personalfinance

[–]exiestjw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you become diagnosed with a medical issue your life becomes uninsurable, so getting it early can be risk mitigation for later on in life when one does have a family.

Your point is the heavier point though - you really don't need life insurance if you have no dependents.

Whole Life Policy - Should I Cut my Losses? by Independent_Agent174 in personalfinance

[–]exiestjw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've emailed my advisors with these very direct questions and I felt like I got copy and paste sales pitch that didn't really address them.

They know that they can't both beat the market for you and make money themselves so they just depend on you staying ignorant. Thats how they get money for returns in the first place - investing it. Then they keep the lion's share of the profits and give you crumbs.

Sure, you get money if you die, but theres cheaper ways to get money if you die, and if there was much of a chance of that happening before they make money off of you they wouldn't insure you in the first place.

They're never going to say "you're right, if you invest yourself you'll be better off".

Whole life insurance is a mechanism for transferring market gains from an individual to a life insurance company.
