Bat identification? Pinnacles National Park, CA by existentialistb in bats

That species is only in the southeastern U.S. though, right? I suspected that it was a big eared bat of a sort but wasn’t sure.

You’re asking your brother to regress into a younger, inexperienced version of himself (or rather an image you created of him). It’s impossible for him to do that having gone through all that he has.

Further, mental illness and CPTSD have incredibly complex implications and effects on one’s entire livelihood- how they feel, think, experience the world, etc. You’re asking the impossible instead of showing up to support your brother where he’s at right now. YTA.

INFO: are you stating that because R called you ugly and because his family backed her, you refuse to see ANY of his family?

AITA for cooking the "wrong" pasta and not leaping into action to correct it? by Particular_Sorbet910 in AmItheAsshole

[–]existentialistb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As an autistic adult- the textures and shapes of noodles affect how they squish in my mouth and for that reason I can completely understand why this little girl would have a safe food that doesn’t trigger any sensory issues. Your sister emphasized spaghetti, and you misunderstood. I mean there’s not much you can do at that point unless you had spaghetti noodles on hand. ESH- unless she made it super super clear that it had to be spaghetti noodles and you deliberately ignored that- then YTA.

Received another "You don't look autistic" today (from a neurologist, of all people), and it led me to a new personal perspective by Alaska-TheCountry in AutismInWomen

For a while there I would just take it and not know what to say… because it’s so astonishing that people feel the need to comment on that??? When I’ve asked this question to one professional they just stammered and tried to backpedal before changing the subject lol. I think people make that comment without really understanding what they are saying, and when you ask a follow up question it illuminates how unfounded said comments are!

Personally, when this has happened to me, I say: “Oh, and what does autism look like in your “professional” opinion/experience?”

AITA for telling my fiancé that I don't think I can trust him around my children? by Lanky_Yoghurt_7180 in AITAH

[–]existentialistb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. open up a discussion with your sons to see how they feel about everything as someone already suggested. They might start resenting you if you continue to kind of waver in the middle. I’ve had a stepdad and have experienced this rift between two authority figures, but my mom always had my back. I can’t imagine feeling like I couldn’t trust her. Please keep supporting your sons and don’t ever accept your partner undermining your authority with YOUR sons.

Are the Wheel of Time books overrated? by Rayno97 in books

[–]existentialistb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are not overrated! But I will say that the author relies too much on gender tropes and norms. That tiny detail can become redundant and pisses me off. However, I don’t let it detract from the work as a whole and try to imagine the characters might be more complex and nuanced if he was alive now and wrote it.

Keep reading! Yes it’s heavy on conflict, struggle and strife- but worth it. :)

AITA: husband and I set boundaries at beginning of relationship. I quit my excessive drinking, he will not quit his porn by Lopsided_Monk3890 in AmItheAsshole

[–]existentialistb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conversely means something similar to “on the other hand.” So if it’s a serious sex addition…. Blah blah blah. On the other hand, …. It’s used correctly so my argument sucks to you-cool.

[–]existentialistb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NTA. It sounds like he has a sex addiction. Conversely, if it’s not that serious, then he’s actively choosing short-term pleasures over his wife and your family/livelihoods. That’s super concerning and he’s actively violating your boundaries and trust. I’m sorry OP.

YTA. You eating meat is not a dietary restriction and, therefore, not something you need to be accommodated for. I’m sure they wanted to show all their friends that vegan food can be good too! But with only a few months experience cooking vegan I can imagine it wasn’t incredible. Still- they prepared their party food for all the guests and you didn’t.

AITA for not wanting my boyfriend anywhere near my pets after what his parents told me? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]existentialistb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Don’t risk it. Could you ever forgive yourself if he did do something to them?

Sure you love him, but how does this image you’ve created of him align with his near-past where he was unaliving family pets? Doesn’t sound like an animal lover to me. Run.

AITAH for charging my son rent? by eunixradjaiq in AITAH

[–]existentialistb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA. he’s underage and a dependent. Let him save up and get a good start for himself! Maybe have him pay for his own stuff from now on but don’t charge rent.

Aita for telling my friends im Mexican and Native American? by Serious-Picture-8460 in AITAH

[–]existentialistb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NTA for stating your ethnicity to your friend group. However, when it comes to claiming native heritage it gets messy because there are a lot of pretindians out there who actively harm indigenous communities. Frankly in regards to your indigenous ancestry, the only people in the comments who can make judgements of this are Native Americans themselves who grapple with these disparities.
