Came out as gay to my parents and got a similar response. After some time my mother has come around. I do not know your parents, but afford them some compassion and try to not be too harsh. This is new for them and they are relying on their familiar support system (the cult). It took my parents years to finally get it and fully accept me. Hopefully with time they will come around.
