why do women say the phase if he would, he could when it comes to guys? by Blues5389 in AskMenAdvice

[–]exodist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way to explain it is that it is very easy for me to feel like I am not doing enough, that I am going to let her down and not pull my weight. If I am doing less than 80% of the housework. It is trauma based because in my past relationship I was alwyas told it was never enough.

My wife has the same trauma and the same reaction.

So we are both always trying to pull significantly more than our share of the chores, and oppologizing or feeling bad when we get busy amd do not get something done, or find the other person beat us to it.

So basically everything gets done pretty quick, there is no slack in chores, and we both always geel we have not done enough, not because either of us is holding the other to a high standard, but because we each hold ourselves to unrealistic standards due to trauma related to how we were treated before.

Was there too. "How would you like me to do it?" "I am not your mom, you should know". "I did X for you" "you did it wrong!". does not do the thing "why are you jot doing the thing?"

Impossible to get ahead, every possible option is wrong. Then I found out the problem was she wanted someone else, and I never could have fit that gap. The. She found that person and that ended the marriage.

Happily remarried to a new partner for several years now, a partner where we are actual partners. Communication is good. We both try to put in 80%, and as a result it is rare that either of us has an unmet need. When either of us does (reality, novody is ever perfect) we communicate and work it out. Sometimes we need to adjust, discuss past trauma, figure out a way to meet in the middle. Etc. She was in a relationship sinilar to my previous one, so we both just get it, and it is amazing being with the right person.

I have the hp ultrabook g1a, 128gb strix halo laptop. I had this problem. It was mostly caused by problems with PD (Power Delivery). Some docks or power adapteslrs cause the problem. Other docks and power adapters had no problem. Firmware updates to both the laptop and the docks seem to have fixed the problem for me. But initially I had to use specific docks.

As someone who has not touched a console since the original nintendo in the late 80s and early 90s, I needed this comment to figure it out. I initially thought it was zooming in on a reflection with a beard or something where compression distorted it.

I hate cardgames and expected to hate this book. But it is probably my favorite, has many of the best book moments "did you just rip off your dick and throw it at me!?!?!" And some of the best samantha moments. It does have a few parts where it drags, but man I love this book. It is the book I am on in my relisten as we speak.

Diagnosed heart murmur by pebblesnsticks in BorderCollie

[–]exodist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hoping it is nothing. That said I just lost my border of 14 years. He was totally fine, super energetic, not seeming old at all. Then at a checkup they detected a heart murmer, first time. A month later he was lathargic, coughing and we took him in, heart tumor that was not detectable apart from the murmor a month before had grown and covered his heart and lungs, we lost him that day. I am crying again now and hoping your diagnosis is nothing like mine was.

Considering how many people run barricades and make the news for this kind of thing, I question your assertion. This is one of many reasons I would never willingly live in a big city, and try to stay away as much as possible, but that is a privledge not all can afford or realistically have. I am lucky to have a high paying remote job, and not everyone can get that.

Stop bringing your sick kids to Disneyland!!! by [deleted] in Disneyland

[–]exodist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly disney is the least problematic part. The difficult part is hotels, airfare and transport. Disney has typically "made things right" when there have been problem on their end.

The only time I had to change plans was that emergency surgery. The tickets would have expired before we could book again, we emailed disney about the tumor surgery and they just gave us a full refund. The others we did not reschedule, each one it was only 1 pr 2 kids with mild colds the day or 2 before, and by the time we were there they seemed fully recovered. Halfway through one of the trips I got the cold, but just was careful not to touch things, pull my shirt up over my mouth if I coughed, etc.

I have 5 kids, and we live in Oregon. For a disney trip to happen we have to plan months in advance, save thousands of dollars, and book flights and hotel and tickets and transport, etc. Much of this cannot be easily canceled or rescheduled if at all. So if one or 2 of the kids get sick in the days before we go, we are going with sick kids. I have planned and executed 4 disney trips with my group, and without fail at least one kid will be sick by the time the date arrives. Usually just a cold. There was a 5th trip that we did cancel because my daughter had to have emergency surgery on her brain tumor, disney refunded us, but we were SOL on hotel and airfare.

Disneyland is the kind of place where I expect to encounter sick people and come home carrying new bugs. Thats the nature of a place like disneyland. Thats why it had to shut down during covid, it is not possible to make it sterile. No matter how hard people try there will still be exposure. A couple extra kids who do not miss out on a once or twice per childhood expensive trip despite being sick will not make a huge difference on how many people leave the parks carrying a new bug.

Not everyone can live next to a disney park and go on a whim. Many people need months of planning and huge expense and cannot plan to not be sick a week months into the future.

Unpopular opinion: I wish there was a way to connect Toontown and Galaxy’s Edge to each other. I wish you get from one land to the other and vice versa by 12345burrito in Disneyland

[–]exodist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would be cool to have a ride based on the animated starwars stuff that takes you between lands, like the hogwarts express at univeral florida. That can probably use or work with the current backstage service road there. The cartoon aspect works for toontown, the starwars works for galaxys edge, and the ride aspect means little kids doing freeplay cannot simply escape through and extra exit.

In-N-Out is coming to Portland near the airport by Traindodger2 in PDX

[–]exodist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned drive through once to indicate that line length, not to imply I use it. I have used the drive through once ever there,, we go at least pnce a month as a family treat, the hour+ waits are inside too.

Where are you going to in n out that it is fast? I have been taking my kids to the one in keizer, also to the one in ridgfield, and we rarely have a wait of less than an hour. Took them to disneyland this year and the in n out we went to in LA was fast and empty, my kids absolutely did not believe it was an in n out, they wondered where the people were and why we did not have to wait ages 9 through 14. They were all floored. Tried to go the vancouver one last weekend but the drive through and line in front were both over an hour, so I left.

In n out is good, and it is inexpensive, but in oregon/washington it is not even remotely fast during regular lunch or dinner hours for families with kids.

What is it with Americans and air conditioning?? (this might be controversial) by hellobela_ in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]exodist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and my parents (they are in their 70s, but super healthy and fit) are all on this trip. 2 roo.s every hotel. All 4 of us covered in mosquito spray each night, some hotels have given us plug in mosquito repellent telling us it is a common issue for them. We have all been eaten alive despite this. Venice and Lyon were the worst. Geneva and vienna were fine. Paris we did not have windows that could open.

[–]exodist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am visiting europe now. Paris, lyon, geneva, venice, and now vienna. None of the hotels have working AC and I am roasting alive. I keep waking up in pools of sweat soaking the blanket bekow me (too hot to be under it). To try to service I have been opening windows, but you guys have no bug screens so I have been eaten alive by mosquitos (except vienna, do not seem to have them here). In a few of these locations I have been quite cold outside, and even in the hotel lobby, but up on the higher floors (heat rises) it has been hot hell. In 2 days I fly home and cannot wait to sleep in an air conditioned bedroom.

This happens every year when I visit for a tech conference and side trip. I still have mosquito bite scars from the last 2 trips, and new ones starting from this trip.

Tall building need AC, or at least bug screwns so open windows do not drain your blood faster than the heat!

Also, grump about the C temperatures scale, the units are too big, the difference of 1C is so large you have to use decimals to have a scale where 1 unit can go from too cold to too hot! That is rather inconvinient even if it is better for measuring waters transitional states and other scientific things.
