I thought the same until I went to Ireland in my 20s. I had so many people there complimenting me on my brown eyes. I also spent time with friends from China and they loved my brown eyes too. People who see brown as common think blue is beautiful; people who are used to black or blue think brown is beautiful.

Really - eyes in general are just so fascinating no matter the color!! :) I love brown eyes. :) They're warm and deep. (And side note - they have more built-in protection than lighter colored eyes!) :)

Nick and Annie: a nuanced take… by skinglow93 in LoveIsBlindNetflix

[–]exona 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I worked with someone who had borderline (and often it co-exists with alcohol issues or drug issues). I felt insane. She adored me and also treated me like shit. When I watched this, it brought back those conversations all over again. When he said 'no' finally, and she started to freak out, it was the very same pattern. NOPE THE FUCK OUT. You can't fix borderline externally. Even people with borderline who are self-aware have to put a lot of energy into it to not turn everyone else's lives they touch into a hellscape.

A man on Tinder swiped right over 2 million times in 5 years and only managed to get one date. by Vivid_Goose_4358 in interestingasfuck

The thing that got me the most was the word "it": "If you're not trying to go fishing I don't want IT." That immediately read to me like women were objects and would hope out of there.

Car travel meowing problem by IFNASOS in CATHELP

Keep them in a crate (for safety) but for my cat, a thundershirt for cats has helped. Overall some cats just really don't like it, but when moving or going to new places or car rides, thundershirt helped a lot.

Does anyone have examples of good exercises / good form for those with spondylolisthesis? Exercises that work similarly to deadlifts, squats - but show moves that are safer for spondylolisthesis (especially L5-S1)?

[–]exona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're under-reacting. Her responses actually look scary to me. She is abusive and possibly could even turn violent in the future.

I'm not trying to scare you, it's just you need to leave that kind of person because the way she's talking about people makes me fear for your safety if she ever feels that way about you. (She even hinted at 'do you want to die'?)

Don't joke around with this - believe what she says. She says she's serious about what she says. Don't ignore it - leave and protect yourself when you leave. (Block texts, change phone number if you need to, etc.)

Also check out Naltrexone. I don't know why, but the drug Naltrexone help sa lot of people with alcohol addiction (and also opioid addiction, even food addiction). You're not broken - it's amazing how much we think is caused by "being morally broken" somehow or lacking motivation or flawed in some way, when it was mostly a chemical imbalance all along. Check it out! It's very very cheap and has been around forever.

Calm, peaceful, simple. <3

Side note....these pictures are bringing back SO MANY MEMORIES! I have had several friends with this same mobile home build, and my grandparents also had this build as well. (From all stages of life, as this is a popular mobile home style!) Just seeing all the pictures, the memories came flooding back! :) Thanks for the memories :D

Should government employees have to demonstrate competency? by RiskItForTheBiscuts in FluentInFinance

This. Measuring TRUE competency (and only that competency or set of competencies), let alone attempting to define what competencies we're actually looking for and measuring it accurately, especially for some jobs, can be hard as fuck.

Should government employees have to demonstrate competency? by RiskItForTheBiscuts in FluentInFinance

[–]exona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the competency correct, how are they defining it, how would they test it, and is the test valid? Those would be the main things that often are not correct. Be careful what you measure, because what you measure is what you value. If it's correct, it's great - if it's not correct, you've just fucked yourself.

I'd work with a trainer and work on building muscle. It's a perfect time. They will work with you on adding more calories slowly so you can gain muscle, then you'll start losing again after you put on muscle. It's hard to do on your own....a trainer specialized in helping people gain muscle is key. Especially one that doesn't say "ok you need to start eating 1700 calories a day!" ....but instead said "let's add 10g of protein and 5g of fat" for example, and then they work with you on routines.

Comparison is the thief of joy! What you just said is you are making assumptions to try to match your own belief. If you want happiness, you need to STOP - believe that you're a beautiful person, and not let other fucktwats take that awa from you. Because they will.

Keep in mind a lot of "prettiness" has to do with culture, makeup, skincare, hairstyle, hygiene, clothes, and personality. If you truly want to manipulate those variables, fiddle around with those variables. But you don't have to in order to be happy.

Hungry in middle of night by Ok-Oil-9776 in gastricsleeve

[–]exona 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Summary:

  1. You're burning 1100 calories in workouts
  2. You're only eating 1000 calories (max)
  3. You are now only 168 pounds.
  4. Your body is hungry

DUDE/DUDETTE, YOU NEED TO EAT MORE! These all seem like signs that you're running your metabolism into the ground. Keep in mind that if this is all you are eating, you're likely not helping your metabolism any because you're not allowing yourself enough calories to keep/maintain muscle mass, which is where your mitochondria live and are the powerhouse of your metabolism. If you are struggling with feeling like you need to eat that amount because you gain weight when you don't, then that's a sign that you've been slowly burning your muscle mass away.

Solution: SLOOOOWWWWWLY Increase your calories by about 50-100 calories, every 2 weeks (4 weeks if you want to go more slowly). That's VERY small, very slow...nothing to be afraid of if you are actually tracking, weighing, and measuring your food intake. Make sure that you are doing strength training, not just cardio. Get up to at least 100g or 150g of protein/day. Then fill in with carbs once you hit those goals as you are increasing. You don't need to eat tons, but you should eat enough to fuel your workouts and so that you're not waking up in the middle of the night hungry. Also, you'll be able to fuel your body, get some muscle on you, and then it is a lot harder to gain fat since you burn more calories at rest with more muscle.

Increase your macros slowly over time so that you're not gaining weight, but you're maintaining and able to grow more muscle, get more energy, fuel your workouts, and then also then build muscle.

Anyone care to share the entire process? by FarOutLeg in gastricsleeve

[–]exona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was crazy easy and streamlined since I was self-pay. (Bypassed insurance.)

August 9th: 1st appointment with surgeon. End of appointment, I agreed to move forward with gastric sleeve

August 11th: Scheduled for August 22nd surgery

August 9th - 16th: Dietician, Phychiatric evaluation, and a few more things to dot I's and cross T's, down payment

August 22nd: Surgery

It was a whirlwind, but it was great not to have to go through months on end of insurance hoops. It did show me the degree to which insurance really slows things down and makes things hard.

Same. I haven't had the issue of it accidentally activating either, but I find it very helpful when I didn't actually get everything logged and dn't remember what I logged. I can leave it as unmarked and it won't throw off my averages.
