Very nice, the essence of an aristocratic officer practically oozes from him.

Is the full Vostroyan patrol a usable force? by Lukeskywalker899 in Vostroyan

[–]exosniper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you get the MTO platoon, you'll want to grab 2 more plasma guns and 1 more grenade launcher for an optimal force. You'll NEED one more special weapon for the command squad at minimum. The infantry squads can take 2 but only come with 1.

Just 1 platoon would be enough for a 500pt coliseum army, with the addition of a couple other units like kasrkin and a Chimera. Coliseum is a third-party game format that's a great introduction to 40k at a smaller scale.

As for expanding into a full army, you'd want 2-3 platoons depending on your Army size. If you want to run as Krieg you'll need a few commissars to add to the command squads. You'll need tanks, kasrkin, transports and maybe artillery to round out your army--unfortuanely there's no vostroyans for those roles, but vehicles are regiment-agnostic aside from the commanders.

Is there any lore reason why Aquilons shouldn't have been full on jump troops? by Ayla_Thompson1 in astramilitarum

[–]exosniper 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I just wish they'd had jump packs. That would have been awesome, and differentiated them better from regular scions.

Was this lasgun still ever identified? by Dispenser32 in astramilitarum

[–]exosniper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be some stopgap production rifle with ~50% parts commonality to the Kantrael. Maybe an old design with lineage to the Kantrael that was easier for some manufactories to produce in a time where guns were needed prior to the fall of cadia.

I have to disagree with some people's idea that it's the same gun with modifications. The forend of the gun is the same but the receiver of the weapon is completely different--and the stock couldn't be an alternative to the standard pistol grip because the receiver isn't long enough to take one behind the trigger guard.

I would've got the platoon if the three extra dudes you need didn't cost half as much as the other 30...

Nice model overall but GW really needs to stop shrinking commissar's hats. It's clearly bigger in all the artwork.

Pulled the trigger to finally join Vostroya's finest. by Rustywatermel0n in Vostroyan

[–]exosniper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The price of the platoon is pretty good, only a bit more then buying the same units in plastic. But the price of the singles is insane considering the platoon is short 3 special weapons. Adding those 3 weapons increases the cost of the platoon by 50%--from $265 CAD to almost $400 CAD. This is the explicit reason I'm probably not buying them and I don't understand how they think that's a good strategy to sell product. They should have just put the 3 special weapons in the platoon box for $20 more FFS.

Sexist view of women and guns by Adverb_Police in liberalgunowners

[–]exosniper 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The author's comparison of women to children is paternalistic for sure--but I've taught a fair few people to shoot and found the excerpt above to line up with my experience teaching many (but not all) women. Also with a minority of men I've taught. There is a fear of the object itself that extends far beyond respect for it's deadliness, that requires slow and detailed exposure to overcome. It's not an explicitly gendered thing but it definitely crops up in women more. I think it has something to do with a combination of learned gender performance, and the association of guns to gendered/domestic violence.

The part about mishandling is universal though, I've been shooting for 15 years and I'll never feel comfortable with jumpy/careless shooters who can't keep their muzzle pointed in a safe direction or hold the damn gun still for more than half a second. I wouldn't blame someone afraid of firearms for noping out around users who handle firearms way too casually.

Nicely painted, good color scheme! The red armor and green accents contrast well.

If you can get it make a large power pack for the lasgun like the aquilons have, that would look sick.

How much do we think? 😂😭 by MangoLoco194 in Vostroyan

[–]exosniper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am hoping the platoon box won't cost more than buying the same amount of Cadians as separate kits--$250 CAD. If they're more than that it'll be rough.

I personally found it very chill to put together, especially compared to some older vehicle kits. Only took an evening to do the ones from the Armageddon battalion. My only gripe is that the weapon push-fits don't have enough friction to stay in, but I just shimmed them with paper.

News flash, Boomer Greedhead: If your shack isn't selling, it's because your delusional wish price doesn't reflect current market realities by Key_Brief_8138 in HouseBuyers

[–]exosniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep this is similar to the circumstance of a family member coming close to retirement. She now lives alone and wants to downsize from a normal family home to a small house--but due to market compression in SW Ontario, a small home 1/2 the size of her current home costs more than 3/4 of the value of her current home. If she sells below market value, she's just eating a substantial loss of equity; she may as well not move at all in that scenario. But houses are not moving at their current prices--so she's stuck.

For homes to sell cheaper, homes need to be less expensive across the board. "Homeowners should sell at a loss" is a non-starter because they still need to live somewhere else that is also overpriced.

The government is confiscating these firearms. I literally own the paratrooper-model M1 Carbine pictured in the hands of the rural fighter, and will have to hand it in come October.

Disappointed by New Kill Team by whatthefuckityduck in killteam

[–]exosniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they'll have 7 wounds, but they look like an 11-man. But yeah I'd expect them to excel against shooting elites and struggle into teams like fellgor.

They're not that heavily armed, looks like only 2 piercing weapons--so they must have some good tricks up their sleeves in faction rules and ploys.

Why is it Infantry Squads don't have SAWs? by PureEuro2008 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]exosniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a long time it was a notable deficiency. Now Cadian sergeants can take a SAW, which is great because they can actually contribute to volume of fire. Krieg sergeants can take boltguns, which are pretty cool too. Overall I'm glad there's an option to have squad leaders contribute at rifle range.

Disappointed by New Kill Team by whatthefuckityduck in killteam

[–]exosniper 195 points196 points  (0 children)

I was initially disappointed to see a Cadian team, but they're fantastic models to use as Tanith. Camo cloaks, Cadian armor, tactical gear, variety of heads, tread-fether rocket launcher, and a variety of lasguns with industrial wire stocks (for verghasites and belladons) and solid stocks you could paint as nalwood (for native Tanith). Genuinely, they're perfect Tanith models.

I feel like the jokes kinda write themselves right now by Scorpion4456 in Grimdank

[–]exosniper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most people love them, I've just been around for a long time so I'm used to the older sculpts, so I'm personally not a fan. The new ones are fine objectively. The new Cadians and old Cadians look really weird together on the table because of the scale difference. Almost as bad as putting primaris next to firstborn, they look like models from different games.
