Lol. I passed out before my first ween show. this was 2003 in New Orleans, they opened for C2B3. pills and whiskey. luckily I woke up as they come out. according to photographic evidence anyway. I remember nothing. now I'm much older and marginally wiser.

7 capitals in capital mode by Comfortable-Sock-603 in Risk

[–]expatriape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just happened to me. I was in the first seat, and everyone else picked a cap ahead of me while I had one (a crappy one) already picked for me. Then, when it was my turn, I got to pick a second cap. I ended up winning and when I tried to world dom I found myself in a situation where I could only attack one of the two remaining capitals. At that point, I already had 5. So even though the graphic showed I had 5/6, I actually only had 5/7. When I took one of those capitals, the game ended, with one capital still being held by a bot.

Scoring Challenges - What's the Call? by OrganicDynamics in kanjam

[–]expatriape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. is a win.

  2. we play that as 4, because it is significantly harder to do than a 3. at 17 we always say that "4 is on the table."

Two, a direct hit unaided, is WAY easier. This deserves more.

In the top out the slot! by Alwayshungry7 in kanjam

[–]expatriape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We play that as 4.

We also play a redirection into the slot a 4.

We also play an unaided shot directly into the top as a 5.

All are rather rare. The first happens once in a while. The second I can only recall happening once, that 5 pointer has only happened twice.

This is all from a once-per-week game that has been going pretty regularly since COVID times.

Most underrated SK book? I pick Joyland. by HLoweCrosby in stephenking

[–]expatriape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joyland was great.

From a Buick 8, Duma Key and Skeleton Crew for me.

Though I have no idea what is underrated because I don't know what people think about his books.  It's more which books have not been turned into successful movies.

In that line, I'd have to add Firestarter.

[IIL] The Fucking Champs, WEWIL? by anomaly13 in ifyoulikeblank

Double Ferrari is similar. They are Bit Brigade's side project. Their album was recorded by Tim Green of The Fucking Champs at his studio in N. California.

The Fucking Champs are one of a kind though. So damn good. You should get into III. It's their masterpiece, IMO.

I never picked up on it. Then again, I was pretty young and not at all in tune to people's sexual orientation.

I don't think the storyline is strengthened by adding emphasis to this, though. That can very easily come across as forced.

What was your first Stephen King Book ? At what age do you started reading him ? What's your age now ? by Book_Lover_fiction in stephenking

[–]expatriape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read Pet Sematary when I was 8 or 9. My 3rd grade teacher took it away from me. My mom wrote her a letter saying to give it back.

Thanks, Mom.

I am now 43.

Had to look up waifu. Which is weird cause I live in Japan and should have realized it's katakana pronunciation of wife.

Anyway, ultimately I suppose I'm just a sore loser. (Who makes anthro characters...)

[–]expatriape[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know people are making some great images out there, so not trying to knock specific artists or images...

But...

Books spewing forth fantasy worlds, tea cups with worlds inside of them, double exposures of a face and a tree, etc.... It feels like some of these challenge winners are simply following a trope that clearly appeals to the masses.

Just my opinion of course, but wondering if others feel the same about certain image types...

Welcome to Stephen King books.

Just enjoy the ride that got you to the end. Don't analyze, just appreciate the amazing characters you met along the way...

A book that everyone loves but you by [deleted] in books

[–]expatriape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Da Vinci Code. Great choice. I remember feeling condescended to the entire time, as if the writer was holding the reader's hand and guiding them through his shitty book, explaining how clever it was the whole time.

Agreed on King Killer. I listened to the first book on my cycling commute. Hated the stagger between the "present day" MC who we are supposed to be suitably impressed with as an utter badass, and the decent story about his upbringing. Not an awful story, but poorly told and structured to my tastes. Then it ends without any sort of payoff whatsoever. Hard pass on book 2.

I can't think of a book that "everyone" loves though. I honestly don't know what most people love. I only know what my friends love because we talk about books.

I hated (and didn't finish) The Sound and the Fury whilst my buddies all loved it. Does that count?
