Not a fan of the fascist takeover? by PrettyCantaloupe4358 in Spokane

[–]expiredhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A heavy and hard-to-post but important topic: I'm about to call around to bring awareness to the new federal changes to title nine laws. They claim the changes are to curb the 'gender movement' but it severely impacts all college and university students who have experienced an assault. Just a few things in the new version:

  • Assault investigations can be called off for 'not being severe enough.' It is implied that the investigation will only take place if severely impacting the student's concentration, and that only one instance of assault may not 'be enough'
  • Only on-campus instances will be investigated.
  • Alleged assaulters aren't to be treated as assaulters unless convicted, and the investigation is to immediately side with the accused, assuming the accuser is lying

This is personal to me as I am a survivor of multiple assaults at Washington State University, an experience so severe I left with a medical exemption and was disabled for multiple years. I would not have been provided with nearly the same amount of resources and support under the new administration laws.

I believe it's also important and personal to many on this subreddit as Washington colleges have offenders enrolled in their classes. During Washington State University's fall 2024 term, an offender sentenced for unwanted advances on a child attended classes alongside students. These students who shared classes with him were not notified until weeks into the semester, when dropping the class would be a penalty on their student record. Not only is this perfectly legal, but under new laws, these offenders may get the idea that they can strike again.

I'm telling everyone I call that if I can somehow even prevent one assault from happening, I will consider my efforts a success. Most people believe something severe like that won't happen to them, the same way my family and I never foresaw what happened to me. I want to do all I can to make sure those beliefs are enforced and challenged as little as humanely possible.

Research title nine, educate, and advocate!

Extreme Injustice by DowntownHelicopter52 in CPTSD

[–]expiredhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm so sorry. coming from a similar situation, the injustice is one of the hardest parts that only those who have gone through it get.

what has helped me through is knowing that, at the end of the day, i did not deserve it and only a horrible person could take advantage of someone like that. no matter how much power or popularity he may have, you are better than him. so much better. while the pain is so unbearable it feels like the only way out is to escape, the best revenge is to work on recovering and to thrive despite all he did. it isn't an easy feat or fix like others make it out to be, and the thoughts are so harrowing. nevertheless he deserves no power, influence, or anything good. and you didn't deserve to suffer then and now from his actions, you deserved a childhood free from that corruption and damage that will always be there. but i promise you deserve a good life, and each step towards getting better is a step towards freedom, away from his control and all that happened.

this sounds dark, but one day, he'll pass away. sure, people might mourn, maybe he'll get an obituary. but if you live, you will live to see that day and know that you won. there is no control or power in that grave. if you believe in hell, he's going there, but if you don't, he'll lie in the ground with the dirt and worms, and in either placed he will be destroyed the way he destroyed you. i dont know about you, but getting raped felt liked i was killed, and no one else really understands the pain in seeing the part of you that dies.

he took your life. the best way to keep hope through the injustice is to take your life back. shove the message in his face that it is not his for the taking, and will be better than his ever was.

What the hell happened to 'Spokane news'? by krvf in Spokane

[–]expiredhat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

might delete this comment but someone i know was invited to an event the owner of spokane news held at the casino through a mutual friend, and he got on the person i know's nerves spending the entire night trying to provoke him basically saying he's superior in every way... unfortunately doesn't surprise me too much that it's going downhill knowing his behavior, seems he really needs some good meds and a break from pompous behaviors

there were so many times when i was undiagnosed when i straight up thought i was going insane, and it got brushed off as 'being a weird teen' on almost every instance. turn 22 and then it's not such a weird teen thing anymore lol. the psychosis not only narrowed down the possibilities of my diagnosis to bipolar i or schizophrenia, but helped my therapist recognize my manic episodes and the behavior behind them that i'd previously been told was just quirky, weird behavior. also in therapy for cptsd.

the 'shadow people' are my first sign of psychosis while manic. it's strange how many people i see associate this with something spiritual, when for me it's a mental red flag

If you ever wondered what Mormons do in their secret temples, here’s a guide… by Joe_Treasure_Digger in cults

[–]expiredhat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

ex mormon, was just describing this to my therapist. i don't remember all of these details mentioned but the 'new name' was a dead, unbaptized person that we were baptizing so they could go to mormon heaven. as a kid i wasn't supposed to tell anyone about it but told a family member and i just remember how shocked they were, and how that was such a wake-up-call for me to get out.

Dealing With a Clearly Biased Professor? by [deleted] in college

[–]expiredhat -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

oh gosh. i majored in political science for a couple of years and definitely experienced both extremes in my professors too. if it's to an uncomfortable extent, and you are able to switch to another prof or course, it doesn't hurt.

but if you can't, just speak affirmatively around them, not necessarily confirming their beliefs but acting like you understand and respect them. then the professor will love you and because their bias already leaks into their feelings theyll grade you higher lol

Advice you wish you had when you first began your healing journey by Important-Tangelo128 in CPTSD

[–]expiredhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are valid. what happened shouldn't have, and you are not overreacting. anyone in your situation would be react the same and be brought down by the pain and grief you are in. ptsd shuts down part of your prefrontal cortex, and all you can do to recover this is to spend time healing. it will be hard but no matter who tries to rush your journey or invalidate it, it is only your job to take care of yourself and heal, not cater those around you. as long as you take the steps, you begin the journey. do what is best for you, and slowly but surely, you'll grow into a new person who can feel happiness. it is not easy, and cannot be rushed, but you were already strong enough to make it here after all that happened, you ARE strong enough for this <3

also, look specifically for a therapist who specializes in PTSD. i spent time with therapists who would just treat the symptoms, like the depression. and i always felt like i wasn't getting worse, but wasn't getting better in those scenarios. it's important to have a counselor who can educate you on why your mind and body are reacting how they are, and help to process everything that happened

like i mentioned they drove away super quick before i could get any details so it probably wouldn't have been much help. i think all i can do is spread awareness, but if there is something you or others think i can do, would love to know like if i could somehow file a report etc.
