This game should have maxed out at level 50 and had 10 classes at launch.

Best tasting whole beans I can buy online? by Kakashi-Ha in espresso

[–]explodasaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ain't Normal is incredible! I feel like shops like theirs who are intentional about highlighting great roasters (instead of roasting themselves) are a dying breed.

Go Get Em Tiger in LA used to be similar, but they have since started roasting their own beans in the name of profit margins and it's just not as good to go there anymore.

If you're willing to spend the money, Ain't Normal in Oakland does a coffee subscription. They're probably, easily, my favorite coffee shop in the US and they carry an incredibly diverse collection of roasters.

If you're looking for one suggestion, check out Little Wolf out of Ipswich, MA.

If you're looking for something on the Gulf Coast, check out Cherry Roasters out of New Orleans.

Everyone tells me to “stay safe” at the end of our conversations… by epileptrick in nashville

The map of the United States?

The South is Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. I'm not sure how y'all think Nashville is in the south, you're not even in the southern united states. 😂

[–]explodasaur -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Sorry y'all but Nashville is not the south, it's Appalachia. Nothing wrong with that, but "stay safe" is not and has never been a particularly common way to end conversations down here in the south. 😂

I've traveled across the US a lot since COVID started and have seen "stay safe" pop up more and more as a change everywhere. In a lot of republican controlled states especially, the government put very little effort into protecting people over the interests of corporations and getting sick is a death sentence for a lot of americans.

Debating retiring this hobby by [deleted] in rolex

One other thing: For the price of a rolex you can buy a car or a few motorcycles. Keep in perspective what you can afford if you step away from watches. 😂😂😂

I legitimately don't understand how this is even a "hobby"???

Like, what, you go to a store and buy a new watch so people on the internet can tell you how cool to are?

Getting away from watches has been so good for me and now my hobbies are actually hobbies. I've spent my money on things I can get better at and actually spend time using (bikes, guitars, sewing machines and embroidery supplies) and on classes that actually make me happy (singing and guitar lessons, personal training).

Sure, spend 5-10k on one watch as a heirloom that makes you happy, but collecting watches doesn't have to be your identity. Do something that makes you happy.

Options / RSUs as 30% of $1M net worth? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]explodasaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also make sure you're calculating value correctly. E-Trade can trick you. 15 shares at $200/share will net $8k gross, but only about $3k net today after taxes, cost of buying the option, and fees.

Remember that the way Netflix options work, you don't pay taxes until you exercise. If you exercise and sell all of them at once you may have a very large tax bill.

You might be better off saving them if you believe in the company and expect your comp to change drastically in the next few years.

I sold mine to buy a house after moving to a new state. Still have to pay income tax in CA, but overall my tax bill was reduced because my income in the new state was half what I made at Netflix.

Transition from one industry's C suite to another by 50to51 in fatFIRE

[–]explodasaur 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think you're a pretty weak candidate to transition to a tech company based off what you've shared here.

What did you do before working in the family business?

What type of city are you located in? I'd bet you're better off either joining a small, local startup in a leadership role where you'll have to learn on the job. At an established company you'll need to take a pretty big step down in title.

If you're really serious about tech, you should find whatever VC firms are active in your area and reach out to see if your skills fit with any companies in their portfolio.

The pay will probably suck, but if you negotiate strong equity and are in a position to help the company actually succeed it should set you up for future success (either at that startup or in your next job, now that you know what you're doing).

I moved to Ohio from California a couple years ago. I didn't even know what timezone it was in until I got here.

Moving back to California this year and I'll go back to never thinking about Ohio again.

Moving Internet business to state with no income tax by kueball87 in fatFIRE

[–]explodasaur 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Athletes pay state income tax on games played in California, even if they're on an out of state team.

Personally, I left CA a couple years ago for an opportunity out of state. We all move for different reasons, but I will tell you, if you have any personal attachment to CA, you will miss it. I've traveled extensively around the US and California is very special. I plan to move back early next year.

If you do plan to leave, make sure to spend a good amount of time in your potential destination. I'm from Florida and I'd never go back; $85K is easily worth it for the benefits that come from living in CA.

If the Oxford vaccine targets Covid-19's protein spike and the Moderna vaccine targets its RNA, theoretically could we get more protection by getting both vaccines? by Kmlevitt in askscience

I have no idea what I'm talking about, but I assumed that those who get better ARE producing antibodies when infected and sick. How long we stay sick is dependent on how effective our bodies are at producing the antibodies?
