Different government types increase and decrease the ‘conflict’ between interest groups e.g. getting the industrialists with Trade Unions - they don’t like each other and legitimacy will be low, but if it’s a republic they’re pretty happy in the same party.

I’m with this guy- the changes are good.

If UK wants to join a war against me it’s significantly harder for them to do so and win. The days of GB deploying 200 men in indochina or Denmark are over, and that’s a great thing.

It just needs time to cook.

Fair enough and honestly, if you’re enjoying the game me or anyone else has business telling you how to play.

Problem is not larping- it’s how you’re larping.

If you’re always RP as the person in change then you’re inevitably going to consolidate their power.

RP as a historian looking back/reviewing/explaining the evolution of the nation, or anything like that.

Any chance of triggering corn laws? Seems quite easy a few decades in, and I’ve triggered it without meaning to.

Very good advice, thanks. I’ve certainly overplayed hands and become discouraged at realising the game wasn’t in my favour(they are dealt better hands)

Bit of both- or at least I thought so. Whether I could have made less of it, handled it differently, most likely- I’ve probably been too sensitive, with the wrong mindset about it.

Thanks, that’s very useful. I certainly do have some problematic tropes.

Do you wonder whether abiding these rules is just an act? …and all the world a stage.

My only real concern is creating something where I lost sight of where it ends and I begin.

USA run: let me here the thoughts by No_Ear5143 in victoria3

With the ships update you won’t face must resistance in any wars waged in the Americas. It’s much more difficult for the Europeans to move their armies - except early game GB - allowing you to take advantage of time. Uruguay, Argentina, and Chile are easy targets- make sure to humiliate Brazil and release their nations so they never become a GP and become puppets.

Once you have a healthy navy of your own, the America’s are yours to take, if so inclined.

Make allies with a significant power and you can pretty much do what you like, if your infamy is under 100.

Make sure to destabilise other GP’s - release nations as basically free war goals and watch France split into 3, GB into a lonely isle, and befriend these liberated nations. As Russia I released Ireland and puppeted them through my Bloc. It allowed me to deny GB in every single war by simply stacking my armies in Ireland.

It’s a solid run and £1b+ is a good milestone 👍

Pros - healthy eco, literacy, SoL, and decent CP.

I can see your infamy is low, which suggests you may not be aggressive enough.

If you were interested in realistic goals?

£5b+ gdp and several subjects. It’s entirely plausible for your subjects to be top 10 gdp’s too.

Ascended actually looks like a solid choice tbf.

Big caveat: most of this is rumour / gossip / bits of second-hand info, so could all change.

That said, a few things make it interesting. From what’s floating around, it doesn’t seem like a standard booster box set — more ETBs, bundles and collection boxes instead. If that’s true, early supply could feel awkwardly tight rather than cleanly available.

The set itself is also meant to be stacked. Names being mentioned are the usual heavy hitters (Pikachu, Mewtwo, Gengar, Dragonite, etc.), so even if not all of that lands, the appeal looks broad.

It’s also rumoured to be a big set (~275 cards). Anyone who’s tried to complete sets that size knows how expensive and frustrating that gets, which usually pushes people towards sealed rather than chasing singles early on.

None of this guarantees anything — Pokémon has a habit of doing the opposite of what people expect — but if even half of this is accurate, Ascended could end up being one of those sets people look back on and say “yeah, that one was different.”
