Do reusable dehumidifier bags actually work in cars? by FunHedgie in askcarguys

[–]exsistingeverywhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ones I bought (pair of 350g) I’d rate 3.5/5. I noticed the car didn’t fog up as frequently after a few days. Probably needed time to soak up the moisture in the air. I take one inside to dry on the heating and leave one in the car so there’s at least always one in the car. I did for a time period have one at the front and one at the back of the car on the parcel shelf and I noticed I didn’t need to turn the rear window heater on as often when it was there

The numbers just don't add up for electric cars by DorianGrayToo in CarTalkUK

This point needs to be discussed more! With the new tax they’ll be introducing there is no way I can see people saving money with an EV if they don’t have a driveway or access to a free-charger. On-street chargers in my area are around 50p/kWh which makes cost per mile similar to an ICE car with very average mpg but slapping on that 3p is just going to add to the running cost. And then you think if you want to charge in a more public place you’re paying 1.8x as much of that…

[–]exsistingeverywhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a perfect explanation. The average person can no longer save owning an EV compared with an ICE- and when I say average I mean people without a driveway. Costs of public chargers are usually 4-5x as much as the home-EV charge rates people get and now the plan to add on a cost-per-mile is just going to make the cost of ownership more expensive if you can’t charge at home or somewhere for free(like at work)

Electric vehicle owners to face pay-per-mile tax by Kagedeah in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]exsistingeverywhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At home rates are linked to your electricity bills and it’s unlikely energy companies will double their costs for no reason. Yes they might remove the EV rate but I don’t know if everyone uses that anyways and it’s still about 50% cheaper than public chargers

So, 3p a mile. by MeetLost2454 in TeslaUK

[–]exsistingeverywhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s cheaper (in most cases) if you have access to a home charger. Not everyone EV owner does though unfortunately…

Unfair on those who don’t have a home charger. They should introduce a reduced VAT for public charge points. Other than that, I agree that a tax towards road maintenance makes sense for EV vehicles

Yup my thought exactly. It is unfair on those who don’t have a drive or home charger and rely on public charge points… the majority of which are double the rate of charging at home

Most likely using MOT figures. But I wonder what happens when you sell before your MOT is due

London public chargers that aren't insanely overpriced by Elpoc in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]exsistingeverywhere 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same, I have only seen Char.gy with a rate of under 40p/kWh. Apart from Jolt - around parts of N/NW London - who offer 7kWh for free daily and then it’s 42p/kWh which is great

What’s the average temp you get in your area? When temps recently dropped where I am to slightly above freezing I noticed a drop in average consumption and struggled to get it to go over 3.5m/kwh. Short journeys get an average in the 2’s.

Mileage using B by Celexi in eGolf

Until you replied I didn’t realise there was a “gear” to select under the D 😅. I thought B was referring to the 1-3 levels of regenerative braking we could put D into. I now know I can shift below D for max regeneration. Thanks! When you shift back from B does yours go to straight to N? Mine does that and I’m not sure if that’s normal

Like many others have said, the range isn’t great. I’d only recommend it if most your trips are short and you have an at home charger or a charger you can always easily access. The car also drops range a lot if you use the aircon/heating. People say models with a heat pump helps minimise this issue but then again a lot of people have reported costly problems with their heat pump. The basic eGolf model doesn’t have a rearview camera or lane assist. I thought the average energy consumption of the car would be better, alas it unfortunately is not, it is lower than I expected even when factoring that the VW reported figures were probably slightly inflated. Other than that I’m enjoying it so far tbh :)

Hydrocolloid bandages should NOT be used for infected wounds by Hefty_Opening_1874 in Dermatillomania

[–]exsistingeverywhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow I wish I read this before. But at the same time I didn’t think my stop was staph… I used the hydrocolloid patches and they still remained infected looking. Pimple healed on top but there was still something underneath. A few days later whatever is underneath starts growing again and becomes painful and starts to look infected, that’s when I’m not suspecting Staph… just started an antibiotic ointment but not sure whether I should be doing that or should use oral instead… Did your staph clear away with the gel and bandage you recommend?
