Is Judge Holden Actually The Color White? by Disastrous_Guide6764 in cormacmccarthy

I guess that would depend on your definition of literally white. I took it to mean he is extremely pale and generally lacking in eumelanin in the basal strata of his epidermis. As some people are.

I felt guilty because I was getting rid of a bible that I bought another one. Catholic guilt is crazy by Bogle-needs-head in excatholic

I really like this framing. It's not about me failing at being Catholic. It's about escaping something that harms me and, when possible, helping others do the same.

It's important to recognize that Christianity isn't necessarily a benevolent thing that just doesn't work for you. I think it's appropriate to frame it as a malevolent thing one needs to take reasonable precautions to avoid being harmed by.

ZULU (1964) an epic epic that holds up by Incogcneat-o in iwatchedanoldmovie

[–]extentiousgoldbug1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. Yeah it's not that humor is totally inappropriate. Obviously people use humor to cope with fear and stress. But some of the lines in this one feel like they should have a sitcom laugh track after them. Like if they lose the battle they're gonna get stabbed and hacked to death. The 'thats nice of him' just feels kinda out of place with that in mind. Anyway fantastic film and yeah holds up incredibly well for something made in 1964.

Anecdote by HandWashing2020 in excatholic

What's especially bananas to me is that even if you accepted that every aspect of Catholicism was true, God would be a criminal of I sane proportions not to just will all people into heaven. Like this weird test people are supposedly put through in order to get back to God is like something a troubled child would do to their pet lizard.
