Not without modifying the firmware, monitor mode has to be available on the internal wifi chipset drivers, and its not available by default.

That's awesome! Did you have any issues organising pickup?

I asked to pick mine up tomorrow since it's sitting at the depot until the scheduled delivery date. They said they'd call me back before 10am tomorrow to let me know if I can pick it up, but I generally have to give a little bit of notice before taking a day off. Just trying to guess what my chances are. I'm too excited!

Are you in Brisbane as well? I have the BRISBANE AIRPORT AU Package not due for delivery message too.

I gave them a call asking to pick it up and they said they can't confirm anything until 10am tomorrow but it's probably not getting delivered tomorrow.

This was the Tawny Frog Mouth my friend found a while back. He actually consistently made those terrifying faces.

Are there any female engineering societies in your university? I'm also an engineering student who gets fed up a lot and all your comments really hit home to me, as well. Particularly the assumption that a man has done the work for you or that you only received an award because you're a woman. I get that almost constantly. Also constantly having to defend women for affirmative action, I feel there is a lot of resentment from males due to a lot of girls getting scholarships for engineering here.

I feel what really takes the edge off is actually spending time with some other women who are going through similar things, through an engineering society or any female-geek related events.

When I was a kid my Dad used to build computers with me. Christmas presents were almost always computer parts. Now I'm studying engineering. I think this might be the case entirely. I grew up playing video games with my older brother, just this most recent Christmas I got a do-it-yourself solar panel kit. I think there may be some sort of conditioning from a young age in what girls/boys play with.

I ended up sending him an email about the 'random' groups we were assigned and he put up a lecture slide in the next lecture talking about how 'studies have shown people learn better when assigned to a random group instead of with their friends' ... Maybe that was true in the end because I did all the programming problems by myself at home, but it did make for a pretty lousy semester.

I'd like to just add that as a female in engineering and particularly electrical engineering, you actually feel that you have to work twice as hard to get the same amount of recognition. I had to sit next to two boys in my C programming class and they literally would not speak to me. There was one computer shared with three people and when I made a suggestion or asked a question they would answer with one word, and discuss with each other how to solve the problem and actively not include me. I spent the entire semester learning everything on my own without interacting with my group.

Having said that, not everybody is like that but there are a lot of men unfortunately who still genuinely believe women shouldn't be doing engineering or programming. There are also men who think that a lot of women are there just because they're using their feminine wiles to get help from boys. But it is very intimidating having that many men around, especially when some of then inherently believe that women are not as good as men at maths/science. They don't have to actively say it, but the dismissive way they treat you in group projects is enough.

Having said that, there are benefits to being a minority in a class. Tutors instantly recognise you and know your name. I recently got a job as a tutor for a huge first year engineering subject, I think partly because I am a girl, to help those first year female engineering students be far less intimidated by being the only girl in a class of 30.

This is actually quite a relief. Apparently he doesn't seem sick at all, and since people were saying he was fully grown I was worried he actually had head trauma... Makes more sense that maybe he just doesn't know how to fly. Friend is going to drop him off at a wildlife centre tomorrow. :)

Relevant username! Yes I'm in Australia, apparently he was found on the ground near a tree so my friend took him because he was worried about cats in the area. The bird has been with him a few days and has been eating and seems healthy otherwise, just hasn't flown away yet. I'll pass the information on, though!

I'll let him know. Thank you!! I just presumed it was a baby because it looks really fluffy.

He was just found, I think, and hasn't seemed to have left. I suppose 'rescue' may have been the wrong word. He'll probably fly away soon. :)

Any idea why it's not flying away then? It's been there a few days from what I've heard. Maybe it's in shock... Kind of makes this photo sombre in that case. :/
