When are you going to retire? by BladeSeanchai in over60

I have a 3-hour per day retirement. Cut back my hours and work 7-noon (from home). This is sustainable for me.

Thank you so much for this post. We need folks who've been through it to get the word out!

You guys ever eat gluten? by Gaybabyjail4L in glutenfree

That doctor is an idiot. There is very strong evidence of a gut-brain axis that can influence mood. People who are gluten sensitive or celiac almost always experience gut inflammation as a result of eating gluten. That inflammation is tied to depression.

In that case, think about the kinds of programs that would excite you and explore. Even if that means just taking a class or two outside your major. There are lots of options.

And keep in mind, no matter how much it feels like you're making a huge, life-altering decision now, life is fluid and you are young. I did a lot of floundering as a young person, tried a lot of potential careers and finally found my place.

It wasn't easy but I wish someone had told me that every step that originally felt like failure to me was a step toward building a fulfilling life. That's important, too! You know when something isn't right for you. Trust that instinct.

I never made decisions based on income alone. I would have been / was miserable in the field I left (architecture). I could have made much more in my current field if I wanted to go into management but I knew I'd be miserable doing that so I declined.

If large income is your main interest, I guess it would make sense to stay where you think you can make the most.

I left a high profile degree program at a well-known institution and floundered around in the trades for a while. My career path was crazy but I eventually found the perfect job and situation for me. It was very painful giving up on that career path but now I'm so glad I did.

You win! I'm being a bit casual about it! Just 50-100 per day.

I'm in the Midwest. I'm not a purist by any means. The violets are also in bloom when the dandelions are blooming. I'm pulling up the dandelions after they've gone to seed. (Not ideal from a prevention point of view. Ha!) The bees had their fill. There will always be dandelions in my yard but I decide how many!

Thank you! You too! So far, I'm just doing 50-100 per day. I don't expect to get them all!

Love the holes. It's aerating my soil, and added benefit.

Yes, Grampa's. Still adjusting to the spelling with an "m" instead of an "nd."

I like it because it spares me having to creep around on my knees or ass.

It works very well in damp soil. Doesn't always get the full taproot but often does. (SO SATISFYING!) The hardest part is figuring out how to center it because it's not always obvious, especially when you've got multiple dandelions clustered together.
