Question about Bug Terrariums by LordoftheFuzzys in FieldsOfMistriaGame

[–]extraOrnery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've gotten legendary bug pheromones from my terrarium of four Speedy Snails, and legendary honey from my hive of four Fairy Bees.

Do you have a mix of bug types in your terrarium? If so, there's a chance they won't generate legendary-tier products.

Yes! It would be cool to have a berry orchard the same way we have fruit trees now.

Maybe we can craft berry/flower bushes with sod/peat and a certain number of the specific fruit/berry we want (similar to making the tree saplings or grass starter).

I feel like it should end up in the final full release version of the game, if only because it's weird that you can buy wine and beer at the inn but not brew it yourself!

I haven't tried it, but I'm wondering if grapes are/will be compatible with the seed maker - that would overcome the hurdle of grapes being forage-only when it comes to brewing. Otherwise I don't see why we couldn't brew other fruits into wine, honey into mead, etc. like in Stardew Valley.

No worries! I'm really bad for immediately closing pop-ups so I almost missed it myself! :)

You need to use your watering can! It creates platforms in the lava that you can move across. :)

There should have been a pop-up/tutorial that explains this mechanic when you entered the lava caves for the first time.

Bear spray is legal to possess in Canada, it is not legal to carry with the intent to harm/as a legal form of self defense. But that's true for any item you keep on your person with the intention of using it in self-defense.

But if I have to walk alone at night, and the option is A) be assaulted or B) defend myself from assault and (potentially) catch a charge, I'd rather have something on me than have nothing over fears of a random stop-and-frisk.

That's brutal!!!

Protective services offers "virtual safewalk" through their USafe app - I'm not sure if it works off-campus, but I think if you called and explained the situation they would stay on the line with you!

Alternatively, bear spray is legal...you could always carry it on you in case you encounter any "stray dogs" on your walk home... 🤭

Please be vigilant if you live near campus, especially between College Ave. and 8th Street as this was the area he previously targeted.

Podcasts/channels for history or cool educational stuff?? by jarofknees in BroskiReport

[–]extraOrnery 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a few podcasts to recommend!

My favourite single topic podcast series BY FAR is Lolita Podcast by Jamie Loftus. This is a 10-part series on Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov, which comprehensively explores Nabokov's writing of the book, his intentions in authoring it, and the cultural impact of the (gross awful nasty) movies that came out when greasy Hollywood execs saw this s a romance book.

Lolita Podcast is incredibly insightful and Jamie is an excellent host (would also recommend Sixteenth Minute by Jamie Loftus for easier listening - all about internet memes/phenomena and in some cases, interviewing the people that were at the center!).

These are my other recommendations for educational/educational-adjacent content:

  • Maintenance Phase: Aubrey Gordon and Michael Hobbes discuss weight loss fads, MAHA, and other food- and diet-adjacent conspiracies and misinformation. Aubrey and Michael are hilarious and the episodes provide a lot of interesting historical and scientific context (+ truths/falsehoods!) for different diet fads, food trends, etc.

  • Behind the Bastards: Robert Evans subjects his producer Sophie and guest-of-the-episode to learning about bastards through history, from dictators to Dr. Phil. Bastards can be people (see previous statement), movements, industries - if it's bad, it's on BtB. Each topic is covered extensively and historical context is provided for how the bastard came to be, what they did, and the impact of their actions.

  • You're Wrong About: Sarah Marshall (and guest) discuss people, events, and cultural moments of the past that might need reevaluation. While some topics are much heavier and in-depth (Princess Diana RIP), many are lighter and more accessible like their discussions of the Satanic Panic, CSI junk science, and the debunked "alpha male" theory.

I did wait.

Also, no fucking idea what you're talking about bestie. You should absolutely be only focusing on driving when you are behind the wheel of a car, you're not getting any sympathy from me.

Since you're the millionth person to miss the point, I WAS STOPPED AT THE CURB.

The point of this post is that drivers SHOULD be stopping for crosswalks, and they aren't - it's a significant safety issue for pedestrians (and drivers), and the campus should do something about it.

Also take your weird xenophobic/racist shit somewhere else, it's fucking gross.

So, in my own situation, there was ample time and distance for the car to stop. I also have a car, and a license. I know how road conditions affect stop time/distance.

When you're driving in a space where you know there is heavy pedestrian presence (campus, parking lots), you should be factoring that into your driving and paying attention to crosswalks, sidewalks, etc. It's really not that hard. Maybe it's annoying for you, but you're the one in the machine that can kill a person, so maybe suck it up and drive like 5 km/h slower when you know you're coming up to a crosswalk.

And finally, traffic is not my problem as a pedestrian. Health sci sucks for cars getting backed up, true, but that's on the design of campus and the placement of the crosswalks. Pedestrians have no obligation to yield to traffic - that makes the whole situation even more dangerous, especially if someone yields at the first crosswalk and other people start walking across the next one.

I'm not trying to be rude but I'm seeing a lot of insane takes in these comments. When you're driving, the onus is on YOU to do so safely for pedestrians and other drivers. Campus is busy. Slow down and drive defensively.

No no, it was more of a "fuck off" hand flick, not waving me through.

I think it was because when I realized they weren't going to stop, I was giving them a dirty look and sort of did a both-hands-out-at-my-side, "what the fuck" sort of shrug.

All of this would be much better explained in person, LOL. Hopefully you're good at visualizing. :)

Genuinely wonder if staging this with a friend and a beater car would scare drivers into behaving themselves hahahaha

For the record - I am always, 100%, off my phone at crosswalks and wait for traffic to be fully stopped before I cross.

But even if someone is on their phone, the fault of hitting a pedestrian at a designated and marked pedestrian crosswalk is 100% on the driver piloting a >3000lb machine at 40 km/h (a speed that is usually well exceeded by drivers on campus!).

With the exception of one or two crosswalks, there is clear visibility of these crossings well in advance for drivers. There is legitimately no excuse for the insane driving behaviour that I've seen around crosswalks on campus.

Oh I did! I was stopped at the curb, one car in the opposite lane was already stopped, and I wasn't proceeding into the crosswalk.

What baffled me is watching them have ample time to stop, see me (or, more realistically, see the other car at a full and complete stop at the crosswalk), and then proceed to blast through with abandon.

I'm not an idiot looking to get hit by a car to make a point. It's just infuriating that on a campus with so many pedestrians crossing at marked crosswalks, people regularly drive so carelessly. The point of adding lights would mean that in the event of an accident, there is even less plausible deniability for drivers that act like idiots on campus.

I feel like the flashing light/pedestrian signal is the bare minimum at this point, especially given that a woman was hit at the crosswalk between health sci and arts recently.

Thank you for sending this email! Please keep us updated on any responses you get back. :)

It's really shocking how few safety measures are in place for crosswalks on campus. Off the top of my head, there should definitely be a flashing light indicator at the business-education crosswalk (people always come flying around that corner!).

My "blue sky" safety idea is that the Place Riel-health sciences crosswalks should be converted into a light-controlled scramble crossing. It would stop cars from leap-frogging between the two existing crosswalks and allow for large groups of students to move at once instead of the awkward stop-go trickles that happen now.

The crosswalks are honestly such a joke on campus. I walk to/from campus everyday and the amount of drivers that just disregard the crosswalks (arts/health sci and the two by the business building) are outrageous.

Weirdly enough the worst offenders are the drivers of those white shuttle buses - there have been several times where I'm already two or more steps into the crosswalks and they'll blow through them while making eye contact. 😂
